"I have been buying books from Half Price for over a decade. It was my go to place to just look and find that rare gem I couldn't locate or something I just would stumble upon and gleefully take home. Typically I am looking for gaming books and this was before online shopping had hit it's real stride. Recently however, Half Price has suddenly decided they want to get into the collector's pricing game. Well, good luck is all I can tell you. This past weekend I found books DOUBLE their original cost. These books can easily be bought online now and certainly not all are cheap but being that Half Price paid someone well less than half of the original cost of the book and then decides to charge double the original pricing is outlandish. It was enough for me to decide I will no longer frequent their establishment. I understand profit but outright gouging, especially when your name is Half Price, I will not support in any way."
"I brought in a volume of books that go for $729 on Amazon (new) and sell (used) online at HPB for $332. They only have one of these volumes available in stock! Mine were still in the plastic...brand new! And they insultingly offered me only $17. Horrible business practice. They should just stick to selling books and leave the buybacks to Amazon, who offered me $255 based on the condition. I would have sold to HPB for $200 for convenience, still netting them $200 in profit based on their price for the same set used! HPB is a rip-off for booksellers! Don’t do it unless you need a quarter tank of gas."

"I bought too many books and decided to sell them at half price books. I had over 200 books that were in okay condition for the most part. They tell me that they are not valuable because of their condition and convince me that they will probably donate or recycle most of them. So I accept the offer they gave me of a whopping 8 dollars because i thought it wasn't worth taking all the books back to my car. I come in a week later because i did like this store and notice that those same books that they said were "too low quality" were on display in their vintage section for probably 6$+ each.
Other than that most workers aren't busy, it is very often when I come in and notice that 3-4 workers are just talking with one another not doing anything. They don't help you cart in, they don't help you sort and cart out if you decide not to sell to them. They will just stand there like you are annoying them by being there."
"I took 200 books in mint condition. Most were Time Life Civil War bonks and World War lol books. Also some assorted books. I pulled those same books selling on EBay and they were all selling for over $400. Half Price Book gave me $5. Half Price Book is nothing more a bunch of liars and thieves!"
