Once Excellent Customer Service Now A Screw Over

"I've been a long time Groupon Customer. I have been purchasing Groupons since they had one deal a day in all of New York City (That's one different deal each day), and there had to be 50 purchasers a day for the deal to be 'on', hence "Group-on". You got points for being the first or amoung the first 10 to buy it. Customer service was EXCELLENT on those rare occasions I needed it, meaning, as an avid customer, if a business went out of business. A few years ago, their customer service turned to crap. If a business goes out of business, now they don't want to give you a refund. When I called (something that is no longer possible) regarding a restaurant that was no longer in business, instead of being given a refund, I was told that I would be in touch with a 'specialist' who would arrange an 'appointment' for me to TRAVEL (Yes, it is not in my area) to the restaurant that I already personally witnessed was out of business for no reason whatsoever, since it is out of business. Only after I was perfectly clear that that was a load of crap, was I offered a refund. A month ago, I received an email of stories of interest in my city, and there was an article that a business I had purchased a Groupon for had permanently closed after around (I think more than) 100 years) because of the skyrocketing rents that have driven most small and neighborhood businesses and most supermarkets. I contacted Groupon a month ago, and was provided with a 'trade in option' to use towards another Groupon before the out of business's Groupon's expiration date. Now, with a deadly virus sweeping the globe, and Groupon no longer offering deals near me (for a couple of years), I have no reason to believe I would use any Groupon I might purchase before it's expiration, and have no intention to ride buses and subways to redeem whatever Groupon I could purchase, in a deadly epidemic because Groupon wants me to do so. I contacted them again (by their email form) for a refund (or a 'Groupon Bucks" credit to my account without an expiration date would be perfectly fine), and, instead of being given a refund, I was sent a response again offering the same 'trade in' option. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE."

Never Again

"I will never again use Groupon to purchase anything ever again. My dad is in the hospital and is going to die. I have been trying to get a refund as this was an unexpected event that was out of my control. During this most difficult time my husband and I have been getting the run around. My husband has made phone calls after phone calls for about 5 hours straight only to get passed around and to get no where. I am thoroughly discussed. I hope no one has to go through what we have had to go through. So far we are out 1500!"

"They did not have the item that I paid for ... first they wanted to change the base color then they changed the entire arrangement to one of their choice. They delivered very late in the day and it looked horrible! Like something a kid would put together. Terrible experience! Very disappointed! I should be reimbursed!"

Getting difference response from different reps

"I bought a deal off of Groupon from Ami Tea (Calgary AB) for $9 and it came with 3 Groupons valued at $5 each. I wanted to try the place out anyways because there were lots of good reviews on Social Media websites. None did I know that the person writing the reviews mostly came from the owner Thomas Nguyen. I used my first Groupon and I had a terrible experience. I took pictures documented the situation. The person making the drink had really dirty nails which I took pictures of and her nail touching the drink inside. She refused to remake another one. I sent the pictures to Groupon and asked for a refund due to the situation. I was contacted by Leenashree giving me two options. I replied to one of the option and next thing you know I got a reply from Rajani S providing other alternatives that were not reasonable.

I guess the reason why they have lost 80% off their customers and popularity is due to bad customer services. I don't recommend using Groupon. Most of the businesses listed are not worth trying and there is a reason why they are listed on their website.

THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE !

"Customer service is horrid. They don't respond in a reasonable time if at all. If these reviews were on their website Im sure that it would of made a huge difference. But they dont care and I cant wait until enough people get fed up and they actually find themselves struggling for consumers. Groupon is fradulent ! Dont waste your energy on this site ! "

I Would Just Like Some Feedback.

"Customer service really needs to step it up. Purchased a archery lesson 12/26/19, and the description said I could come only on Saturdays and Sundays. However, the groupon expires the 30th; so I wanted to check the schedule before I purchased but there wasn't an option to. Once purchased I was told to make a reservation. When I clicked the link the there were no available slots for the weekend, and remember the groupon expires in 3 days. I contacted Groupon to express this issue and try to either get a refund or a different date, however 5 days later I've still have yet to receive a response. "

Left almost stranded in Vegas

"I contacted Groupon in regards to an issue with a Groupon Getaway to Las Vegas.

I bought a groupon to the Luxor for a 2 night stay for my husband's birthday, large because of the price of the groupon. Groupon even sent me a confirmation email in regards to the reservation, however the day I showed up at the hotel they could not find my reservation. Once I contacted groupon, I was told that there was an "inventory issue", but "no worries since we didn't charge your card". So instead what happened is that the hotel ended up charging me a total of $329.93 since they had to ask their manager to do what's called a "walk in" to get us a room since they told us that they were sold out, and I had to go through the stress of thinking I wasn't going to have a place to stay. Now I understand that the resort fees would have been $79.36, so with the groupon price I should have only had to pay $182.54. I asked groupon to issue me a refund of the difference which is $147.39. At the end of the day, this was not my error. I NEVER received an email from groupon letting me know that my reservation was not booked nor that there was an issue with my reservation. On the contrary, you guys sent me an email confirmation with a groupon order number so I had no reason to believe that it had not gone thru. In addition, we had at least 3 other parties within our group that booked it with no problem(us being the first), so frankly I don't believe that it could have been an inventory issue. You guys cost me almost $150 because of your incompetence and lack of follow-up.

On top of everything, I could not get anyone respond to me within a reasonable time frame. The emails sent to me said it would be 48 hours for a response, but I never heard anything from anyone in those time frames ever. I had to keep reaching out after I was told a supervisor would contact me and didn't even get a response until I copied the CEO, COO and VP of the company. Even then still, there was no attempt to offer me anything to try and rectify this problem. If i could give zero stars, I would. Will never use groupon again.

Technology Glitch = 2 Purchases and No Refund

"My browser decided to glitch, leading to a purchase for event tickets to go through, which I didn't want. Not only that, but it submitted twice. The second transaction could not go through because I did not have the over $200 that each order equaled, but the first did. It was an event, and I knew that those were final sale, however, it was by complete mistake that this occurred, so I contacted Groupon immediately for help. I never received any response and had to email again four days later. They would not concede, even seeing that a double charge for the same event is obviously strange, so I am out the cost and have been gifted the Christmas joy of being unable to pay bills. It seems to be a huge oversight that there is no escalations team to investigate odd transactions, as this clearly appears to be.
Thanks Groupon and Jeyamani J for being zero help and copying and pasting your script to deal with a panicking customer.

Do NOT become a merchant on Groupon!

"It is not the clientele. Groupon takes anywhere from 50%-73% of what the client pays. You never know how LITTLE they will send you afterwards. Then they gave me and my accountant the runaround when we demanded an explanation. Very few return clients come from Groupon either. Big LOSS being a Groupon merchant!"

Incorrect refund amount

"I tried to live chat several times over a couple of days and it said no one was available.
The description in the service I purchased was wrong and I wasn’t in their service area so I got a return of $65 instead of the $85 I spent on this purchase. I’ve tried to follow up but haven’t heard back yet. This was almost an easy fix. It started off fine. But now I have to keep trying to resolve the discrepancy.

Scam - fraudulent return policy

"i would like to report a scam situation with my purchase on groupon app. I purchased sunglasses through the groupon app that was marked (and is still marked) on groupon app as “Free Return”. I received an item that doesn’t really fit and would like to return it. When i purchased an item from my account on the app, it was clearly marked as “Free returns”. Customer support team stopped responding my emails clearly ignoring my requests.

I had sent screenshot of the item listing page and actual purchase confirmation email that clearly show “Free return” - nothing works for this organization and they just disregarded and rudely ignored my requests.

i just really want to want you guys to be aware of
this fraudulent organization. Don’t believe their return policy promises - it won’t be honored. To prove my claims i am attaching screenshots of the product listing in attachments.

Merchant refused to honor groupon, groupon doesn't care.

"I purchased a Groupon for a massage, then went to schedule it. The merchant was basically some lady doing massages just herself, and she had VERY restrictive hours that did not match my availability. I can't just up and leave work or my child so I went to Groupon support and asked for a refund. They stuck to their default answer and refused to work with me to give me a refund even though it was obviously nothing I did wrong. Then a couple days later, on a second massage groupon I had purchased, the merchant called me and canceled my appointment saying she wouldn't honor my groupon because I had been there years ago. YEARS ago. I didn't remember or I wouldn't have purchased it again. Groupon AGAIN refused to work with me. It was a simple human mistake. "
