Adventures in Thailand

"The tour was well planned, with lots of fun activities; and gave us a true taste of the life, food, people and the country of Thailand. However, I was ‘very disappointed’ that a trip to the Beach was nowhere on the agenda!! This was a Major oversight by Go Ahead Tours! Also, many on the tour felt, there were far too many visits to Temples, over 10 in number! And this took away all our free time, which we could have used to relax, and even make our own way, to a Beach! After all, Thailand is known for its beautiful Beaches, isn’t it?"

Beautiful Christmas

"Jens, our tour director, was amazing, knowledgeable, kind and funny.
The cities we visited were very beautiful and all so different from one another. That made that trip very interesting, not boring.
Only complaint were the pillows at the hotel in Prague.
Can’t wait to go on my next trip with Go Ahead

First in line

"Tim reed was amazing our group was always first in line and all of the tickets where ready on time. The puffing Billy was a bore. And the Alice springs school of air I could have done without. But everything else was wonderful. All 10 hotels were really nice. And the scenic suites in Queenstown blew me away. I'd take this trip all over again. "

Egypt 2019

"The Tour was AWESOME! Our tour guide Samia was EXCELLENT. The tour pace and exercusions were great but be aware you are gone and walking on uneven terrain for the majoriyy of the day. Therefore, if you have physical limitations this may not be the trip for you. Also, the Philae by Night tour was less than entusiastic. It wasn't what I expected. The light show were halogen lights that flashed to specific locations on the monuments during a recording of voices and music. The description read synchronized lihgts and music. It was a recording that came through loud speakers. Additionally there were about 15 cats on the island that were running free. Other than that the tour was FANTASTIC. This was my second trip with Go Ahead and they did not dissapoint. It was truly a trip of a life time."

Spectular Experience.

"The tour director was fabulous. He gave history and background on all of the things that we saw and experienced. The hotels were wonderful. The food was great, especially when we got to sample the local fair. The pace was fast and we were kept busy, but we had time to explore and get to know each place we visited."

TOUR OF A LIFE TIME!!!

"I have just returned from 2 of the most enjoyable weeks of my life. My wife and I went to London, Paris, Rome and added the Madrid extension. From the planning to the payment plan to the trip; it was so awesome we are looking to go again in 2021. Venice, Florence, Rome and extension to Naples.
Pascal was our tour director and did an AMAZING job!! Words can not do justice to his knowledge, kindness, and ability to work with a large group of diverse individuals. He listened and gave great options in a way that didn't seem rude/bossy, always checking on each member of the group to ensure their trip was the way they (the individual) wanted. He allowed us to live the experience and shepherd us into having an awesome time. We walked through history, hit a Broadway show, made new friends and got to see things most people only dream/talk about. By the end of the trip we all felt like family. The group is already talking about getting back together; if we can get Pascal!
I know from the reviews that Go Ahead has great tour guides/directors, but the bar was set way high when we got Pascal.
The over all experience was great. A few issues here and there, but not worth talking about. Things will happen. They were all addressed very quickly and to my 100% satisfaction. Every Go Ahead staff member I spoke with was knowledge and very friendly. I would recommend asking any and all questions and trust what they say. A trip is what you make it but they make it so much easier.
Thank you Go Ahead Tours and Pascal!!

Winter Adventures and Memories

"We absolutely loved our tour. We saw some gorgeous cities and while December was a cold and snowy month to travel to Europe, it somehow really added to the charm. The tour director and guides along the way were terrific. We felt cared for, hotels were great, food and travel details were handled really well. I loved Lucerne and Salzburg especially, and highly recommend this tour for its beautiful sites and just a great get-away experience in general."

Northern Italy Food & Wine tour was exceptional!

"My recent tour was the "Food and Wine: Turin Chocolate Festival and Northern Italy." We traveled in November which is off-season to say the least, but temperatures were moderate (40-65 degrees F) and there were a couple of rainy days, but it was nice that we had mostly clear skies and venues that were NOT crowded! :)
While the chocolate festival apparently completed before the start of our trip, Go Ahead, in their typical fashion, did everything they could to make up for it. For myself, I was more interested in the wines and the locations.

Our tour started in Torino (Turin) Italy and we stayed at the lovely NH Lingotto Hotel which was fabulous. A renovated FIAT plant (yes, THAT Fiat), it boasted modern amenities and a terrific breakfast buffet!
Torino is a lovely city - the architecture, the parks, the surroundings are all lovely to behold. The layout of the city seemed to me to be very organized and well-ordered in an ancient way. The church of San Lorenzo was lovely and boasted hidden frescoes that are lighted only during the solstices - our local tour guide was fabulous (he had a flashlight to show them to us) and knew so much about the history of Torino including the history of Vermouth, and the legendary Bicerin! (A Turin specialty of coffee, hot chocolate and cream that are layered). We visited the Ziccat Chocolate factory - which was a "consolation" for the missing the Chocolate Festival and it was so interesting to see how they made their product and the staff there was very kind. Another stop was the Palazzo di Venaria (basically the Italian Versailles - highly recommended!) which was historic, opulent, and impressive.

Our next stop was the Castle of Carvour on our way to the Barolo winery and vineyard. The castle was magnificent, and the pacing was nice because we had time to stop, take pictures, and really look at things. The Barolo Winery was fascinating! Lots of information on the wine, how it's produced, and at the end, food and a wine tasting with polenta, cheeses & more!

Our next stop, the Italian Riviera, did have a small disappointment. We were supposed to have an optional excursion to Cinque Terre, but due to the weather and safety concerns, it was deemed best not to go. So, Go Ahead did give us an optional excursion for the entire group for free and threw in a few other nice treats. When we arrived in Rapallo at night, our tour director (who was BEYOND fantastic!) made sure we were greeted with snacks and wine. The next day we visited the lovely Villa Durazzo. Situated in a beautifully serene park with a modest climb to the villa, it was like being in another world!

Next we visited the Parma Region where the REAL Parmigiano-Reggiano is made. Roberta, a member of the family that ran the farm where our cheese was made (#3333) was FABULOUS! She explained the process and showed us just how difficult it is to make the real thing. Then we had a tasting and luckily for me... I bought some and brought it home. I don't think I can ever eat that stuff in the green plastic thing again (although she mentioned their "3rd class" cheese is sold to Kraft).

Next stop was Bologna. What a magnificent city! It's got a special lively vibe being a college town, and yet of course, it's old-world in so many ways. Our hotel here was in a terrific location (The Orologio- which is Italian for Clock) was smack dab in the middle of town. They were having a celebration for singer Crimonini and had parts of his song lyrics strung from the house tops and lit up and it was lovely! They did a lighting of the Christmas tree and the whole vibe was really lovely! While in Bologna, we did a short walking tour of he medieval heart of the city which included a visit to the world's oldest operating university, La Universitá di Bologna. Later, we went to a company that makes the machines for gelato and we made our own gelato and learned more about the process. The next day was free in the morning, so I went to the Luciano Pavarotti museum in Modena - it's a 27 minute trip by train from Bologna. It was AMAZING - the museum is the house he was born in and it includes so many things that are impressive. That evening, we went to a farm where we learned how to make tagliatelle from scratch, and tortelloni and then cooked what we ate.

Next city was lovely Verona. Being a huge fan of opera, this city was very important for me. The Arena di Verona, built in 30 A.D., is actually older than the Colosseum and is still IN USE. Every summer they have open air performances of opera there. Our local guide was a supremely interesting story teller! Verona is famous because of the story of Romeo & Juliet, but she told us so much more! I'm almost out of space, but let me just say, Go Ahead has the best tour directors EVER! They are informative, friendly, and kind. I felt like family without the fighting, LOL! This food/wine tour was delightful - highly recommended!

Grand tour of france

"Our Tour Director Susanne was outstanding-we couldn't have asked for anyone better. She was organized, had a great sense of humour, was fun and helped book extra tours and gave us ideas for additional activities. We signed up for the following excursions: Medieval Village of Perouges, Evening in Monaco, Medieval Saint-Paul-de-Vence, Dinner in Paris and Seine River Cruise and Versailles Palace and Gardens. We had signed up as well for the Monet and the Landscapes of Giverny excursion but only 4 were booked so the GoAhead tour was cancelled and our Tour Director arranged a private tour for us which was awesome. We were a bit disappointed in the Seine Cruise probably because we had done the Danube cruise last year when we did the Eastern Europe trip with GoAhead where there is so much more to see, although viewing the Eiffel Tower lit up at night was nice. All the other excursions were great including the local guides who were very knowledgeable as were the guides on the main tour. The Hotels were all lovely except for the Hotel So'Co in Nice where the rooms were cramped and the breakfast sub par. Most were well situated near downtown except for the Novotel Amboise which was on the outskirts so we had to take a taxi back there after sightseeing. The subway systems in the major cities were easy to navigate. We arrived in Lyon a day early as we always do to recover from jet lag and enjoyed on our own time the Musee des Beaux Arts, the Hotel de Ville , riding the funicular to Fourviere and Les Halles de Lyon Paul Bocuse where we had a fantastic lunch. We enjoyed the Roman amphitheatre in Arles, Carcassonne (although a couple attempted to rob us by throwing bird **** on us there!) and the Chateau de Chenonceau. During our free time in Bordeaux we visited the Catedral St. Andre (it was closed during our city tour), Le Tour Pey-Berland which offered fine views of the city and the Palais Gallien which we enjoyed. It rained very heavily during our stop in La Rochelle and also at Mont-Saint-Michel while we were waiting for the shuttle on the causeway. During our free time in Amboise we spent time at the Chateau Royal and Le Clos Luce enjoying models of Leonardo de Vinci's inventions. Since the D-Day Beaches of Normandy excursion offered by GoAhead focused on the American landings, we had booked a wonderful half day Canadian tour with Viator which left from Bayeaux. Since we were staying in Cabourg, our Tour Director assisted us with transportation arrangements by bus and train from there to Bayeux and back. During our free time in Bayeux we visited the Cathedrale Notre Dame and the Bayeux tapestry which was a highlight. We did the post-tour extension in Paris and stayed an extra day at the end as well. The traffic in Paris was overwhelming and the wait times for attractions were long. We had been disappointed when Notre Dame Cathedral burned this year and was closed to visitors but during our spare time we were able to see St.-Chappelle which is stunning, the Pantheon, L'Orangerie, the Cluny Museum and St. Etienne du Mont church. Our Tour Director recommended La Nouvelle Eve Cabaret as a cheaper option than the Moulin Rouge which we enjoyed including a walk around Montmartre. We had purchased a Paris Museum pass which helped us get into several attractions more quickly but all have security lineups as well. There was only one outlet where we could pick up our pass which required walking many blocks. The Louvre now requires that you book a time slot to visit and although we had a pass and a reservation and bypassed the lineup to get in, to see the portrait gallery, you need to stand in a long line that winds it's way past the Mona Lisa. Unfortunately we were in Paris the first Sunday of the month when many of the museums are free so despite having the Museum pass, the wait for the Musee D'Orsay took several hours-consequently we only had time to see the Impressionists on the 5th floor. The Eiffel Tower took 3 hours including standing in lines for security, a ticket and for the 2 elevators to go up and then down again. We were only able to stay up on the Tower for 20 minutes but it was worth it because of the views- I would recommend making a reservation which we didn't have. I highly recommend a Go-Ahead tour-this was my 5th trip with this company and I have already booked a 6th. "
