Avoid ordering from crucial!

"Uggh - wish I'd read these reviews before. I could have just copied a few of them word for word. Order of 2 memory chips not shipped for several days, no tracking information available until a week and a half after order, and over two weeks to get it. Up until a couple days ago, the only tracking information was that the order had been received by UPS innovations.
I ordered on Nov 26th, it's Dec 9th and I just saw that they pushed the delivery date back to tomorrow. Assuming it arrives, it will be 2 full weeks to get a couple chips. You could put 'em in an envelope with a couple stamps and some bubble wrap and I'd have had them in 2 or 3 days.
Like another reviewer, I've been trying not to order everything from Amazon, even if it costs a bit more.
And like another reviewer, I've ordered from Crucial in the past and had good experiences, but not this time.
Hopefully the memory itself will be good when it eventually gets here.

Took 3 weeks to get my product

"I ordered my 8gb ddr4 ram for my work pc. And I ordered it on a Friday August 23, 2019 and paid for the 6.99 shipping(although refunded the shipping) and then they didn’t ship the product until Tuesday September 2nd 2019, I’m sitting here September 5th 2019 leaving for vacation and I had to make accommodations for my package to be delivered somewhere else because they use ups, (when living in an apartment ups is awful, and never on time) all around. Their service is terrible and I’ll never order from them again "

Customer Support lacks on a Great Product

"If your order is actually processed and you received a confirmation, you will likely receive a quality product and have a great experience. However, if you don't receive that confirmation, you will gain nothing but frustration and resentment towards the company.

Mine was both of the above. I brought ram for my MacBook a couple of years ago and the process went fine. Recently, I spoke with a colleague who has an identical computer to mine and he informed me that he installed an SSD and maxed out the ram. He said the installation was easy and his computer runs almost like new. I decided I would do the same. A couple of weeks ago, I placed an online order. I received the order confirmation email few hours later. Unfortunately, several hours i received another email that read as follow: “Unfortunately, we are unable to validate key information on the order, and therefore, the order has been canceled. Before placing a new order, please work with your payment issuer to ensure all of your address information can be verified through electronic validation services. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.”

To make matters worse, since my initial order about three weeks ago, I’ve received a total of 5 of these emails. Thus, I’ve attempted to purchase the same transaction 5 separate time and received the same rejection email. After the third time, I contacted customer service who explained little more than what was stated in the email. Even after checking with the “validation department” and clearing me for purchase I continued to received rejection email.

While I’m not attempting to unfairly bash a credible product, I do think the customer service fall far below expectation. To crucial.com, please consider the customers time you are wasting by rejecting there form of payment. Additionally, I believe if a customer is coming to you repeatedly, then obviously they believe in your product and are part of your loyal customer base. For them, I believe you at least owe them an explanation why you are rejecting their payment.

8GB RAM for Macbook Pro - Perfect! Saved me £122!

"I was cautious when buying because of some negative reviews about this site. But I went ahead with it anyway. Not only did I save myself £122 by not buying my RAM directly from Apple, but my package arrived practically next day. I did select paid shipping for something like £2.99. Honestly I am over the moon. My laptop is working like a dream. Highly reccommend this website. "

Fast and accurate

"Ordered additional ram for the Sony Tap20. Now with ram I found out it gets a bit complicated with matching the correct ram with the computer.

They make it easy since once you enter the model it shows the right stuff.

Got the ram within 5 business days- great job!!

"I put in two orders to Crucial a few days ago and one order went through and is on its way. The second order, however, was flagged to cancel for some reason and I received an email stating that they were unable to verify something.

Usually when a company does this, they just need verification and to have you call in, right? Not Crucial. They canceled it immediately and after I called in to talk to a representative and a supervisor for about 20 minutes, neither of them could tell me why it was canceled, only saying that something in their credit department flagged it and that that department was a separate entity and even they couldn't tell me even if I could get a hold of them because it was top secret.

Keep in mind I was only buying about $50 worth of memory for a 4-5 year old laptop. I wasn't buying a truckload of ram modules or anything that would raise a red flag. Also, I used the same name, address, credit card and email address on the failed order that I did on the successful order, so why did one order make it through and the other didn't if whatever they found was so suspicious? They would only tell me that it was some complicated matrix that they didn't have access to and that they couldn't override or do anything about. Sounds strangely like the Wizard of Oz over at Crucial making weird decisions behind the curtain. Don't we deserve to know why our orders are mysteriously canceled??

Oh, but they did recommend that I try placing the order again to see if it might make it through this weird little matrix of theirs. Now why would I do that if I didn't know why it failed in the first place? What if it fails again and there's a secondary authorization charge? Tell me what to fix and I'll fix it.

Now, I went to Crucial on Twitter and complained and they asked me to DM them my order number and address and this following text is verbatim what they messaged me:

"Hi Nhat, first of all, we are sorry that your order did not process. Please send us a direct message with your order number and billing address. We can use this information to look in to exactly what happened with your order. If you do have any other questions at all, please don't hesitate to ask."

After I sent them the information, they replied with this over DM:

"Hi Nhat. Typically when an order is cancelled it is due to verification issues on our end. It might be something as simple as a shipping address being different than a billing address, or an address that does not match what your credit card company has on file. Our credit department does not share this information with us as to why the order was cancelled."

Ok, now the first message states "We can use this information to look in to exactly what happened with your order" (the key word being "EXACTLY" here) and then all the second message says is some vague guess as to what might have happened, which is the same answers I got from talking to them for 20 minutes on the phone.

Terrible and clueless.

I ended up buying the memory for the failed order through Kingston for $5 cheaper and got it shipped right away with no issues whatsoever.

When the other order goes through, I will RMA it and never buy from Crucial again. Besides, on the successful order, I was able to find the same ram elsewhere for $30 cheaper.

I'm posting the order number for the successful order because the canceled one never received an order number.

"I have been building computers since the 90s...
I used to use crucial all the time for RAM and Hard Drives.
however the last 2 times I have ordered from them, their parts haven't been compatible.

I order an 8 gb stick of RAM for my desktop back in December.
I USED THEIR SOFTWARE TO DOWNLOAD MY COMPUTER AND IT GAVE ME THE PARTS THAT WERE SUPPSE TO BE COMPATIBLE WITH MY COMPUTER.
I bought the most expensive one to make sure it would work.
I started having problems with the computer but since the other stick was an 8 gb stick, the computer still ran. it wasn't until a month later when I was downloading a RAR file did I realize that the RAM wasn't compatable,,, but it was past my return time, so I just chocked it up as a loss.

Now I have done the same thing with my alienware alpha.
downloaded the scanner from their site and it populated many sticks of RAM and SSDs that are compatible.
so I bought an 8gb stick.
received it yesterday, and the shipping was fast.

once I put the stick in the system, all my graphics got weird.
I called Dell, and found out that
NONE OF THE RAM ON CRUCIAL IS COMPATIBLE WITH MY SYSTEM.
my RAM needs to be a DDR3L.
they do not carry DDR3L.

So I called to return it... they said they would take the return, but I would have to pay for the shipping. I asked to talk to the manager because why should I pay for it, when it was their fault I got the wrong part as well as they are advertising part that are suppose to be compatible, but are not... so why should I have to pay?
then the manager said that they would pay for the shipping.
Crucial used to be my go-to company for RAM and HD (SSD)...
but it seems that the company is not what it used to be... which is too bad they used to be great.

MY RECCOMENDATION IS THAT IF YOU WANT TO ORDER FROM CRUCIAL, FIND OUT FROM THE COMPUTER COMPANY IF THEIR PARTS ARE COMPATIBLE BEFORE YOU BUY.
THIS HAS HAPPEND TO ME TWICE IN 6 MONTHS... SO ITS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT.

"Disappointed that the RAM I ordered for my HP Mini didn't work, because word on the web was that only Crucial knew the secret of getting 2GB RAM with these devices. However the support service was excellent and provided a replacement that did work."

"I was very satisfied with the RAM. I just would of liked instructions on how to turn LED lights on/off, and how to change colors. Other than that popped RAM right in booted up and BINGO !!! 8GB of RAM. Thank You. ^_^"

"I ordered a memory upgrade and received it quickly and installed it quickly thanks to their tutorial. My old MacBook Pro is much improved though the dreaded spinning wheel of doom, still pops up on downloading or opening programs on the computer. Overall, there is much improvement in the operation of the computer but I'm not completely satisfied but somewhat satisfied. I'll be upgrading the memory on my wife's MacBook next."

"Reordering from Crucial was extremely easy and fast. Having a reorder button on previous electronic invoices is a great feature."
