Deceptive bait and switch tactics

"Order a jacket online which appeared to be a good deal. I received an email saying they couldn't find the jacket and offered to sell me one for an additional cost which was double their original offer.. dishonest online seller!"

Needed to cancel an international order... quick, easy call & swift, friendly service

"I know many people are complaining about this online business, but my own experience was very good.

Just after I made my order, I spotted a better deal almost and wanted to cancel.

I sent an email immediately (but I'm in a very different timezone, so I wasn't sure if the dispatch would have happened). So I stayed up (my time) to call as soon as their customer service opened, which was 9 hours later.

They have a special phone number for international calls. My call connected immediately, there was no tricky menu to negotiate, I got to the top of the queue very quickly, and when speaking to the customer service lady, the sound was clear without delay or echo.

And she was absolutely friendly, cheerful and efficient. She cancelled my order immediately and sent a confirmation email right away. It was a 100% pleasant experience.

I call that excellent customer service! :-)

Just as bad as everyone says

"This is the most dishonest online merchant I have every dealt with. They attempt to defraud you by listing items for same that they do NOT even have in stock. I will absolutely NEVER deal with this company again. I ordered a tent here almost 2 months ago that stated "in stock" on their website for a trip I was taking in a week. A few days after ordering I contacted them on the status (no shipping confirmation sent) and was told they DID NOT even have this tent anymore and it would be MONTHS before they would have it (they ruined my trip I had planned). In addition, the fully charge your credit card for the item in the mean time. This fraudulent company LIED to me and told me they would not have the tent for 4 months but since I called them every day they finally sent my order after a month and a half. All the bad reviews you see here are true and I absolutely will NEVER order anything from then again!!!!!!!! BUYER BEWARE!"

go somewhere else

"I haved placed 2 orders with campsaver in the last 3 months and both orders went completely wrong. The first one was a tent vestibule , but they sent it out for the wrong tent, even though the EBAY description identified the item correctly. However the return and refund went smoothly.

The second order was for a new tent through their website and all indications , including customer service assured me items were in stock and it would go out in the next day. The order set unfilled for over a week. I gave up and decided to go with a more reputable vendors such as REI, backcountry, moosejaw etc. I never had any issues with those guys and kicking myself for wasting my time with CampSaver.

Doesn't honor purchase price, deceiving and cancelled my order

"Ordered from CampSaver on Amazon. They cancelled my order and stated Cancelled by Customer. When Amazon looked into it they found that CampSaver cancelled the order. When contacted they said I would have to repurchase the items because Amazon cancelled the order. The original item was $120 full price and they had a discounted one available for $75, guess they felt that price was too low after all or maybe the already sold the item. Regardless, the customer service is poor and the company is deceiving in its practices. I'm noticing a trend when reading other reviews. Seems like I'm not the only one. CampSaver has 10% negative feedback in the last 30 days on Amazon. Maybe they like posting 5 star reviews for themselves to counter the bad ones. Who leaves good reviews for companies on unaffiliated third-party sites that didn't transact the purchase?

Lousy service, misleading website

"Had ordered the Kuat NV 2 with a coupon code. The following day, they said it is not available. They had offered me to pick something else and they would supposedly give it to me at the same price as the kuat witha coupon code. Really did bot want anything so i figured i just might wait for the kuat to become available. When checking the website, it atill shows up as avaialble. The customer support guy told me it was just a glitch. The following day, the kuatvwas stll available, now at a lower base price. I really am not sure whether it is still a glitch, bit it feels deceptive somehow.

Just got off their email support again. Now they are saying that they dont carry kuat anymore and the reason why it is popping up on their website is that they have the same inventory as their sister website. They probably just do not want to give the discounted price since if they have the same inventory, they should be able to pull it off the inventory. Please do not order from this website. Very much bait and switch.

International buyers beware

"I am in Australia. They sent me a tent with faulty stitching - Big Agnes Copper spur Ul3. See photos.

They will not replace unless you return it first - that means no tent for a few weeks.
They will not pay for shipping to return the faulty product.

Product seems great SERVICE WAS NOT

"I am a 48 year old male, formerly very athletic, who has been looking for a combination adventure/hobby that would require some training, as I knew it would help me get back to a healthier lifestyle. After deciding on a 2018 PCT thru-hike, I began researching, among many other things..gear. After deciding on several items that I wanted to try out before my endeavor next year, I made a few purchases. One was the Helinox Chair Zero from Campsaver. I had a short multi-day hike planned in a little over two weeks, and a couple of buddies that I was hiking with had recently purchased the Chair One (slightly bigger version of the Zero) from a big brand store here in town, and raved about it. I was delighted to find the Chair Zero on sale at Campsaver.com for a few dollars less than what my friends had paid for their Chair One at this well known box store.
Well, as sometimes happens, my life got extremely hectic, spent more time in hospitals and funeral homes in ten days, than I have the last ten years. When it rains it pours. Just as everything seemed to get back to normal, I was reminded of my, much needed, getaway hike with my buddies and my son. So, the day before we were to leave, I realized that I was actually going to get to go, and began to open packages that I had received over the last two weeks. New gear from Amazon and other online websites, used gear from Backpackinglight.com..etc. when I realized that I hadn't received my Chair Zero from Campsaver. I went through my emails, found nothing from Campsaver with regards to my Chair One, with the exception of the one asking me to rate my chair. Kind of hard to rate it, when you haven't got it!
I immediately emailed Campsaver, expressed my concern and disappointment, and received a reply with an option to cancel my order or they could send it out again. Is that what businesses now consider a shipping guarantee?

My response:

First, thank you for your quick response. Second, while I'm very disappointed that we won't have it for our hike, as intended, I do still want the product. Please re-send the chair to me.

Campsaver customer service response:

Great! I have it set up to ship out to you. I sent a new confirmation email. If you have any questions or problems with this delivery, let me know.

I did receive my chair approximately one week later. My main complaints are:

1. If a company is going to have a 5-10 business day shipping guarantee (of any kind of a shipping guarantee), then they should have a system in place to monitor the shipment of their products. Actually check to see if your products are going to reach your customer in the time frame that you are guaranteeing. If you see a problem in delivery, you could notify the customer of delays, and maybe even catch it early enough to get it corrected and still make your guaranteed delivery date. Instead, businesses, or at least Campsaver, choose to slap postage on it and forget about it until a problem arises. That's not a guarantee, that's faith in the United States Postal Service and UPS..faith as misplaced as my package.

2. How about a little empathy for the customer? I worked in customer service for several years, and learned in my first hour on the job that putting myself in the customers shoes, particularly when my company was at fault, went a very long way to making people happy and to ensuring a future relationship with a customer. See my reply to Campsaver..does that response seem appropriate to you? No mention of my missed hike. No sympathy. No understanding. No promise to try harder. Maybe I'm old school. Maybe it's the difference between my generation and their generation. Maybe I expect too much.

3. If you're going to send out requests for customers to review your products..make sure they have your product. And if you have a problem getting that product to them, maybe you shouldn't send out a second request for the product to be reviewed. When I'm already disappointed in your service, I really don't want to be reminded/hassled about it with emails.

I still have a lot of gear to acquire between now and my 2018 thru-hike. And I find myself at clicking google links and ending up at Campsaver.com, because their prices are often very competitive. But I have refused to cave to the lower prices, as frugal as I am, instead choosing to pay more for reliability and good customer service. I hope anyone reading this will do the same.

Shipment Information Voided

"I would give one star, but my first order a couple of months ago went smoothly.

I ordered a Drink Tank from them and it came before the estimated shipping date and intact.

For my next order, that is not the case.
I ordered a pair of Lems Boulder Boots this time around and purchased a faster shipping method, and the day I got my order status(about a day after purchase), UPS was updated, the following day, the order information was voided by UPS. This was probably due to them not having the certain size I was looking for, and cancelling shipment through UPS.

The shipping department probably already knew about this, and they did not notify the customer service department. Everyone customer service representative that responded to my emails did not know where my order was. I waited patiently(8 days to be exact) to see if it would arrive and that UPS just messed up. Nothing arrived, and I contacted CampSaver, the representative told me that they can send a replacement, and had to check stock... They didn't have another shoe the same size. The following day I received a refund and was told they did not have a replacement...

All in all, the customer service department worked well to figure everything out, but do take awhile to respond to your emails, unless you email them back. I was annoyed that there was a big confusion between the two departments, this refund could have been solved sooner instead if having me wait a week to find out they were out of stock.

"I ordered a pair of Chaco sandals, they were $68. Which is a killer deal since they were typically $115! I placed my order then read the reviews this company has and my heart sank. Everyone was going on about how terrible this company is, but I had the opposite experience! My shoes came the day they were scheduled to be here, they were shipped within 24 hours of placing my order, they are exactly what I was expecting! I am very happy with my purchase and I will probably order a second pair through this company. "

Amok hammock came in used

"Wish I would have read the reviews before I ordered spent 400 buck for a amok hammock system when it arrived I opened to find it was stuffed in its sac wrinkled and stained the straps had tree sap all over them!!! Very disappointing I got a three day hike planned and they told me to pay for another one so I could get it faster then send the used one back they would reimburse me well ain't got another 400 bucks to drop so I sent it back she told me once they get it it could take up to 10 days To process before they send a new one back this is not The customer service that I like So this will be my last purchase from Camp saver ever . If rei would have carried the amok known of this would have never happened rei got the best customer service out there MikeQ Pittsburgh pa"

Let Down

"Customer service ignored my email request for expedited shipping for an order placed over the weekend that didn't get shipped on Monday, despite the claim on their website, which is the main reason I purchased from them. Then I was laughed at, told to have a nice day, then hung up on when calling today inquiring about expediting my shipping, even offering to pay the difference. Worst first experience with an online retailer in an otherwise consumer friendly industry. Ruined my day."
