Bad customer service

"When you order a part they take the money without having it in stock and you have to wait more than a month, it seems that they order it in China, buy them better on eBay, it is faster and cheaper."

Sends wrong parts and sticks you with them

I called Briggs & Stratton Store to receive help obtaining the correct part for a transfer switch. I provided the model and serial number for the customers transfer switch and the agent sent me a diagram to identify the part number. There were no pictures to use to verify the part looked the same but the agent assured me that it would be the correct part. The part arrived and was for a 100a transfer switch and not the 200a that I provided information for. I called customer service to start the return process. The part is in the box they sent and has never left the office. I was told I could return the part for a 20% restocking fee and I pay shipping. First I would need to send pictures proving the part was in new and uninstalled condition in its original packaging. I did so and then received an email saying we would be unable to return the part since it was an electrical component. The agent knew full well what part it was when telling me we could return it. Additionally the part was ordered based on an agent’s information from the beginning. They now are giving me a different part number that costs twice as much and wanting me to purchase this new part blindly as well while keeping an expensive part we have no use for. It is bad enough they wanted to charge a restocking fee for their mistake but this is ridiculous. Might want to remove the slogan “Fit right the first time” from your page.

Wants me to pay for their mistake.

Searched for a part number at briggsstrattonstore.com. Received a result for the part number that had an ambiguous description. Before ordering, I used their "Contact Us" to inquire about the part. I specifically asked if part was keys only, switch only, or both. Received a reply that it was both. Based on that (because I needed both and one or the other was useless to me) I placed the order. When I received the order, it was the switch only. I sent an email to them asking for a refund. They replied that I need to pay return shipping and they will refund the cost of the part minus 20%. I replied that I expect full refund and for them to send a return shipping label. They replied with the same terms. If the part being wrong was my fault, that might be understandable. But, it is unacceptable for me to pay, and them to profit, for their mistake. So, I have filed a complaint with Paypal and will file a small claims court case if necessary.
