"This is my 3rd time using Borrowlenses for a gig and I highly recommend their service. Rented 2 camera bodies, 2 lenses and LED light to shoot studio quality video of a major label rock band recording their album. Equipment all looked brand new upon arrival and was packed very securely in heavy 2 " foam.
I inadvertently returned one of my personal battery packs and memory card with the rental and promptly received a call from Borrowlenses when they discovered it. They went out of their way to arrange the return of my personal equipment free of charge. Overall a great experience, decent pricing and great customer service. "

"Great service, as long as you are flexible and creative. I have been using BorrowLenses for two years and for the most part have been satisfied with the service. It's much more cost effective alternative to purchasing seldom used photo gear. But the down sides can be larger than expected. My local camera shop was a pick up choice for my first order, but after that I had to drive over an hour to the next closest camera shop to pick up my order (because I couldn't be home to sign for a package delivered there.) My most recent order included broken equipment, rendering half of a two light kit useless. Luckily I was able to make my shoot work with one light, but if both stands had been broken I would have lost a days pay along with a client. The customer service is pretty good, but they offered me a credit rather and a refund. A credit that I am nervous to use in fear of received damaged equipment again in the future.

In conclusion, it's a valuable service, but be prepared with a plan on how to get your equipment and what to do if the equipment is broken or damaged."

"I am not a professional. Rented a Nikon 24-70 f/2.8 for an important family event. The rental fee was quite reasonable. I booked online and picked up the lens at Waltham, MA store. The process was smooth. Lens was in great condition. Pickup and drop off was a breeze, with friendly staff. Wish the pickup location was easily accessible from highway – it takes at least 30 minutes from any of the nearest highway. Minor inconvenience, not a big deal.

Overall a very pleasant experience.

"I rented a lens for 3 days at a cost of $100.

Since it was a tight rental period, I booked 3 shoots, one for each day - which, had everything arrived on time would have left me plenty of time.

The ETA of 4pm Friday came and went, so that was the first shoot missed.

I called FedEx who explained it was their mistake, and requested they hold it at the depot for me to collect in person, rather than put it out on another delivery truck, since I'd have no control over the time it arrived unless I picked up in person.

Of course, that didn't happen, it WAS loaded onto another truck, and I missed the second shoot I had booked.

Finally got the lens 16hours late, in time I had paid for.

Now granted, this is pretty much FedEx's mistake to this point, but the "we don't care" attitude I had from borrowlenses customer service when I explained all this, was what makes me the most disappointing.

I was not only financially out of pocket for the lens, but frustrated to boot, and with 2 paying clients that now think I'm unreliable and unprofessional.

It doesn;t take too many displeased customers to harm business in a town, and the potential cost of that has yet to be seen.

Borrowlenses.com's offer to refund HALF my shipping cost was more annoying than anything else.

I didn't feel I should have to pay for any of the rental, in fairness, and while I accepted their embarrassingly poor offer of half the rental cost plus half shipping as reimbursement, weeks later i am still waiting to see that refund.

"The service was exceptional. The prices were very good and it's not everyday a company will let you rent $1,500.00 worth of equipment with no deposit. Insurance is even optional. The renting process was fairly easy, and it's definitely a great help for photographers who want to try before they buy, or can't afford to buy equipment they will use occasionally. . "I recently rented a Canon 8-15mm f/4 L fisheye lens. Sadly, I fell in love with it and it will likely be my next purchase. Optically, the lens was spot on and I was very pleased with its performance. Cosmetically, the lens showed some age and wear, but the performance was all that mattered. I was a little disappointed in the box it arrived in. The box had been well used with rounded and frayed corners, duck tape from a previous shipper/renter, and about 4 or 5 return labels from previous use. Kudos for reusing boxes, but this one has seen better days and it's the first thing a customer sees. The only other issue that I had was the foam insert for shipping protection. The hole in the center for the lens to sit in was rectangular shaped. Not a huge deal, but the front of the lens sat nicely in the cut out while the back end of the lens to slide to the side slightly."
