Warranty tree that is never available

"Purchased a 12' BH Fir during the post Christmas 2016 sale. When we put it up in Nov 2017, we noted that a zone of lights were not lit and the tree had several broken bulbs. We were unsuccessful getting it to light up and called BH who informed us we'd receive a replacement tree as it was under warranty. Unfortunately they didn't have any and were back ordered until August 2018, but that it was one of their biggest sellers so they'd have them. We lived with the partially lit tree that year knowing we'd get a new one for the 2018 holiday season. Needless to say, August and the following months through November rolled by and after 5 phone calls and many "oh, they are scheduled in next month" we've given up on getting a tree that works for 2018 because the tree has to go up immediately for business reasons. They apparently have no idea when their trees will come in for warranties and we're tired of getting the runaround. They offer no alternatives, just lip service. Needless to say, a 12' tree was quite expensive and we are upset with the BH experience."

Two years of Christmas Tree Nightmares courtesy of Balsam Hill......

"After reviewing this site, there doesn't appear a need to warn folks about this borderline criminal company so I'll summarize by saying that I too have had the zero star experiences of so many others on this site. Strings of lights not working right out of the box followed by hours on the phone with customer service reps that don't know the product, repair kits, replacement parts and finally, yes -- a replacement tree that when removed from the box had (you guessed it) three entire branches of lights that didn't work -- all on a $1500.00 tree.

If I were composing the only negative review of this incompetent and completely indifferent organization, I could understand why folks might take a chance. But seriously, take a look at the collection of experiences detailed on this site and steer clear of these products.

Zero Stars is a Better Choice

"I placed an order for a tree which was a gift for a family member. It was ordered on 11/5/18 and to date (11 days later), it has not even left the Balsam Hill warehouse. I have placed multiple calls and have spoken to four different people and received four different stories. In the meantime they have charged my credit card, although they have not shipped the tree. This is completely unacceptable. The tree is now $50 cheaper! This is by far some of the worst customer service I have ever dealt with. WHERE IS MY TREE? This was a gift...very disappointing experience with this company."

Worst customer service experience ever

"IF there was an option to give them a ZERO I would absolutely not hesitate. I was lied to numerous times about the status of my $2000 order. Their CSRs just wanted me off the phone and figured Inwould call backnand get someone else so why not just tell me whatever. Their website says ships by noon the following day LIE! When you call in before you even speak to anyone it tells you it can take an additional 5 days to process 11 days later still no answers and everyday it was oh it takes 10 days or 12 days call back tomorrow but 100 plus minutes on hold and being transferred around and told if it doesn’t show up tomorrow we will do something like expedite you a tree none of which was true and the best one is one of them told me and I quote “ we don’t have a tracking number but if you call FedEx and just give them your personal information they will find it for you” I am astounded at the incompetence and lack of care taken on a $2000 order. I spoke with Victor, Anthony, Pamela more than once, Eric and a host of other completely incompetent or uncaring CSRs and then JoAnn sent hme a form email apology that they must have canned for the number they apparently have to send. I needed the tree today and guess what yesterday they finally come up with the tree is on backorder when I found the one competent CSR Tina who actually seemed to care about her job and my order. I hope this review helps other busy people who have a life and don’t want to spend hours begging for an answer on their order. Buy local and save yourself the ridiculous treatment you will get dealing with the Balsam Hill Customer Service. "

Incredibly Disappointing

"We purchased a tree on their Christmas in July Sale. Opened it today all excited to own a Balsam Hill tree. It looks NOTHING like the pictures in the beautiful catalog. It stands crooked and has HUGE holes that you can see right through. It does not look as nice as a $4.00 tree I purchased after Christmas at Walmart. NO returns after 30 days (even with a summer purchase). Tree was VERY expensive and not worth 1/4 of the price paid. We can not even use it. Buyers BEWARE!!!"

No warranty service for 11 months!

"In my experience, Balsam Hill does not stand behind their products. Last November, I purchased two LED 10 foot garlands to drape over my front door. When I installed the garlands in December 2017, one would not light. I called immediately and was told that these garlands were out of stock and would not be replaceable until Fall 2018. Beginning in September 2018, I began calling for the replacement and each time was told that the garlands still were not available. During the third call, I learned that the garlands were available for sale but not for warranty replacement. I spoke with a supervisor today (11-14-18) who confirmed what I was told on the thrid call. He said a number of warranty customers were calling with the same complaint as mine but there was nothing the company could do. Seem to be a ridiculous excuse to me. I also purchased a tree last year. It is beautiful and works well."

Overpaid for tree... lesson learned... watch out for so called sales.

"I had been following Balsam Hill for some time. At the beginning of October ordered a 9 foot pre lit sanibel spruce for just over $1,000. Tree arrived 34 days ago. In looking at the site today, the tree is now being offered for sale for just over $700. Just feel a little snowed on paying so much. Contacted customer service and to no surprise was told, sorry about your luck, nothing they can do. I realize that I am a few days past the return period ( 30 days from receipt of tree), but requested to just return, also told that is not an option. So i overpaid by about 300....First and last purchase with Balsam Hill, won’t do it again. "

Unlit garland

"The lights don’t stay lit like they say they will. I now have prelit garland that won’t light up. They offered to send me a stand of lights so I could undo all they previous lights and restring the garland. That defeats the purpose. Don’t waste your money. Go to Hobby Lobby. "

Beware

"We spent thousands on our top of the line tree and garland for both inside and outside our home ... in less than 2 years we had issues and were unable to use our garland . Less than 2 years of getting our tree the lights didn’t work and the tree was replaced ... now even though that new tree is only 3 years old we are having the same issue ... we were told that the warranty goes by the date of the original tree even though that was although defective . Their customer service is horrible . We were told to take apart the lights and restrand the tree ourselves ...... well if you are like us the whole point of spending 100O dollars in a prelit tree was to not have to do that . This tree will be going in the garbage with the rest of our Balsam Hill products .... beware and do not spend your money here . It is not worth it . Is very hit or miss and nothing is consistent . What a shame ! Off to buy a new tree ."

Lasted until the warranty

"Loved our Frasier fir. Great for 3 years. However, when it went up the 4th year, 15 days after the light warranty expired, BAM, 1 section is now out. I consider myself pretty savvy, replaced fuses, bulbs, Dead Dead Dead. Spent the extra money hoping for a product that would last longer than something I can get at Wal-Mart. I was sorely disappointed. It is fair to expect that a tree at this price point would perform better, or would have a more robust warranty. Very disappointed at this time. Spent 1400 on my entire order, including the tree, "

Company Deserves 0 stars

"This company deserves 0 stars. We ordered $782 worth of product which made us eligible for a $50 coupon for an order of $699 or more. We then returned product that we did not like that cost $98. They told us that there was a $10 charge for returning. We decided to go ahead and return it. After returning it we were told we would only be reimbursed $38 which is $98 less the $10 charge less the $50 coupon that we were no longer eligible for. I pointed out to them that there is another coupon for $35 for orders $499 and above and we should be eligible for that. The response was NO. The order had the $50 coupon on it and she couldn’t do anything about it. The merchandise is overpriced and the customer service is the absolute worst I have ever run across. The Customer Service Supervisor’s name was Casandra. If you ever have to deal with this company, avoid Casandra like the plague. I have never dealt with someone that was so uncooperative as her. I will NEVER do business with this company again."

Balsam Hill ruined Christmas!

"My wife and I have been married 33 years and every 10 years we buy a new tree. At the end of 2015 we bought a Balsam hill tree and it's the worst Tree we've ever owned. Last year the lights started to fail and when we called Balsam Hill they did absolutely nothing for us. Bah humbug!
This year I plugged them in and even more have failed. We are throwing this tree in the garbage and will not buy from them again. I cannot recommend this company or their products.

"well. of course the two trees are beautiful and well made.....but the boxes are such a delight to open that I felt impelled to praise for those, also......no cussing, no cuts on my hands or arms....thank-you!
