Forget the bad reviews...

"No idea why so many bad reviews... I've been a customer of theirs for 3 years... never once thought about leaving. Unlimited and growing supply of great audio books, a great system for refunds (no questions asked & can do it online).

Give it a try... I think you still get a month free when you join.

I have spoken to them on the phone several times and they've always picked up quickly and have been delightful & helpful.

"I bought an audiobook for $12. I could've bought the CD from Amazon for the same, but decided on instant gratification so I could listen to it on the way to work the next day.

After my purchase, I'm told I have to have the Audible app to download my purchase. Ok, fine. I then download a file that I have to use iTunes to burn to a CD. Ok. I download iTunes and burn the disc. When I playback the disc, I notice that the tracks are not divided by chapter, but into 8 minute intervals, often mid-sentence and there's a 2 second gap between the tracks, which I realize I can change, but didn't realize the tracks would be cut by time and not by chapter. As I continue to listen, I find that my disc burn somehow messed up during the burning of track 6 (funny.. I never get bad burns when using WMP). When I go to reburn the CD, this time remembering to get rid of the 2 second gap between tracks, I'm told I'm not allowed because I already burned a CD!!!

I then decided to copy the audiobook to my Blackberry, which Audible allows. I'm told I have to download an Audible app for my BlackBerry to play the proprietary file format. But when I run the program, I get an error that I can't get around and am still unable to play my download!

So I've spent $12 on instant gratification but have yet been able to play my audiobook!

Fortunately, an email to Audible got me a refund within 24 hours, but until Audible fixes these SEVERAL problems, I will not be buying another audiobook from them.

"For some time, the 10-CD recording of Terry Pratchett's "Thief Of Time" was only available in the UK so when I saw Audible offering it as a "New Member Promotion" US$7.49 plus 3 monthly reduced membership carges, I jumped at the chance.
However, I 1st re-read the offering page carefully for any caviats as I didn't want to get an edited version or some such.
There were no drawbacks listed so I proceeded to set up the account with personal data & credit card info.
Only after the account was set up [I checked it's activation via the password-protected 'Your Account' section] did they advise 'This item unavailable in your geographic area.", which appears to mean the entire USA. Now I'm trying to get the a/c erradicated [lots-o-luck].
To me, their prominent position on Google and their own "Promotion" page constitutes false & misleeding advertising and is not just a simple 'bait&switch' but "The Old Shell Game" - if this isn't available in the USA, an American firm shouldn't be offering it in US Dollars and a Promotional Offer's limitations must be shown WITH the offer, not after it's gotten you to set up an account by revealing your personal data. Just "Name & Address" is a 'saleable item', as your Junk-Mail will show & Audible gets a lot more than this via this 'Disappearing Offer'.
I now learn Audible's been pulling similar tricks with this recording for some time now in the face of repeated complaints so this isn't just a receint 'slip up' but an example of their standard business ethics.

"Had lot of problems trying to cancel a 12 month subscription that I opened to get a discount on an Amazon product. I cancelled product order before it was shipped and then subsequently tried to cancel this subscription. After numerous emails/calls to both Amazon and Audible (a wholly-owned subsidiary), they are both still trying to blame each other and I am still getting charged a monthly subscrition fee. They communicated to each other when I purchased the product, but can't seem to make a connection when I need assistance. I would never do business with them again. Followup...finally got it cancelled."
