Cleaning Fee Scam by Hosts is Rampant - AirBnB Let's Hosts Run Amok

"On multiple occasions houses renting for $500+ per night turned out to be dirty, admittedly by the hosts in messages made on AirBnB's own platform after reporting issues, and AirBnB Resolution Center always rules in host's favor, even despite photographic evidence and admission of guilt by hosts in their chat logs. A host even promised in writing a refund in AirBnB messaging, and still AirBnB did nothing when it was never issued, and host unresponsive.

These hosts are having inadequate if any cleaning done, charging hundreds for "cleaning," and then there is 0 recourse from the hosts or AirBnB. And if you dispute it with your bank, AirBnB will lie saying you never reported an issue, never tried to resolve with them before going to your bank. I have proof all of this was done. They just lie in writing to the banks!

Customer Furkat Kasimov Faces Scammer & Spammer Issues with Airbnb

"I’m writing this complaint today to make others aware about a scammer and spammer situation I had with Airbnb. The issue I have with Airbnb first started after I arrived at a place I booked in May. The accomodation’s listing lead me to believe it was a nice place to stay that did not have any issues which I sooned learned was not the case. When I arrived, I discoved that the description was a scam as the place did in fact have issues. The main issues consisted of: an elevator that was not working, a constructon zone near its entrance, and a broken toilet seat. My initial thought was to check my email to see if perhaps these issues came after booking and the host sent me an email to notify me of the issues, but there was nothing. If I was just staying there for a day or two, I could haved lived with them but seeing that my reseveration was for several weeks (it was supposed to end on May 14), they were unnaceptable and luckily I was able to use steps with the broken elevator.

I contacted the host identitfying myself as Furkat Kasimov, to see what happened. Following this, myself and my mother-in-law were rudly told that the broken toilet seat could not be fixed, he knew about the construction, and the broken elevator was temporary. With some resistance, the host ended up letting us out of our stay a month earlier than planned because he had other people who would take over our stay. Since other people would be taking over, he told me that our money would be refunded.

The Airbnb request was put in so that our dates could be changed. Then, what ended up happening was that the website did not work and I had to get customer support involved. I called, gave them my name, Furkat Kasimov, and explained the issues. Support told me the issues could not be fixed and then they told me I did not need to pay for my stay. After hearing this, I was surprised to get spam emails, SMS messages, and phone calls from them threating to send my case to collections if $1,896.63 was not paid within 24 hours. I was also surprised by the amount they were demanding because I had initially agreed to pay a daily rate of $84.77 (with cleaning and taxes included). I feel like what they were doing was a scam, seeing that I agreed upon one rate, was told it would be taken care of, and then was told my case would be sent to a collections agency if I did not pay up.

Months after the first demand, I continued to get spammer SMS messages and phone calls from Airbnb Russia support around 2 am (their time) and early morning (my time). These messages and calls often woke me up and distrubted my life – no one should ever have to deal with getting calls at that time, especially not from a spammer and the scam that ended up being this Airbnb trip.

Ripping off

"We paid for 2 units ($4786.69) but were given only one unit, so a part of us had to find two hotel rooms on the day. I needed to call the customer service 7-8 times to resolve this issue, which has not been solved. At the end of every call, I got a promise that they would contact me back but have got none from any of the service staffs, which made me call again and again. It has been already more than a week. They just don't acknowledge a very apparent and easy-to-recognize mistake made by AirBnb but just toss me around from a call to calls.
This is the worst customer service I have ever experienced. AirBnb is indeed very untrustworthy and unreliable. I and our colleagues will never use AirBnb again.

"I booked a nice place in Auckland and the reservation went smoothly without any problems. The communication between the host and the Airbnb customer support team was prompt and efficient. No problem with payment nor anything. The website was easy to navigate. I will use this platform to make my future bookings for sure. "

KICK THE CUSTOMERS OUT AS THEY WANT

"I booked a place on Airbnb official website for more than one month staying in New Jersey, where near New York City center. And I paid the full amout !
I and my family found that the house was not tally with the description on the website when we arrived. There was no A/C (the local temperatures were around 90-94℉ ), and no parking palce as the landlord promised. The room was not clean which I can find the dirty underwear under the bed side. I phoned to the host, she promised me that everything would be fixed and there's no problem in the future. However, the landlord cancelled my reservation without communicating with me and without giving any reasonable and legal reason through Airbnb. and the landlord did over-booked things. I made a lot of phone calls to Airbnb, and experienced countless CASE MANAGERS... Why?! Because no one really pay thier duties. Always transfer to THE OTHER CASE MANAGER. Their customer service is a disaster. Finally only one manager would like to pay her duty and helped us book anthor place for the following forty days. Then we got refund and proper compensation and Airbnb ensured that everything would be no problem this time. It led me waste two vacation days to solve the problem.

But we cannot believe that the same thing just happened again after we have been moving in the second place in couple of days!!! The host is trying to kick us out tomorrow. We just know that he double book this place to other customers. This is the dishonest behavior! How could Airbnb and the host do this ?! I made phone calls to Airbnb, until now there is no good solution, so where we can live tomorrow and the following vacation days? I need to say again that I paid the full amount wherever the first and second place. I have a good reputation. How can they do things illegally?! Here is America?!

Do not rent from this website. The landlord may cancel your reservation What they like !! and you have no place to stay! Ruin your trip and waste money!

Canceled my reservation without a reason

"I reserved for an apartment for an one-month stay in Taiwan through this website, and paid the full amount in local currency using a credit card, which converted the charge to USD. The terms of the rental stipulates that I can NOT cancel the reservation. A day later, the landlord cancelled my reservation without given me a reason. Even though Airbnb refunded the full amount in local currency, we incurred losses when the credit company converted it back to USD, plus foreign exchange fees imposed by the credit card.
Do not rent from this website. The landlord may cancel your reservation hours before your arrival. Imagine your flight is delayed and arrive in the middle of the night, and you have no place to stay!

"I needed to cancel my reservation and it cost $100 service fee although I was canceling 2 months in advance. Wish I had read T&C's better. Don't book unless you are 1000% sure of your travel plans. (I have read other reviews about fabricated damage reports that caused people to lose their deposits.) Buyer beware."
