Customer service sucks at Smarthome
"If you love talking to India, getting a run-around, repeating your request dozens of times, having items backordered, then this is the place to shop! Outsourcing to overseas for your customer service is a really bad idea"

Not As Advertised, but Still a Good Deal
"Smarthome broadcast an advertisement for a closeout deal on Insteon Cameras. It was a killer deal (maybe 60-70% off) so I grabbed one. Well, the next day I received an email that my order had been canceled because they were out of stock. The advertisement did say "subject to availability" but I think it would be better to just show the items out of stock when they run out, than to let the order go through, then cancel the order. However, they did give me a 50% off coupon and I found a similar camera. So it only cost me about $10-15 extra to get the Insteon camera I wanted. Overall I would rate them as very good. They tried to make-it-right and the product was delivered in a few days and was as-described"

Refurbished Camers and hub
"I read comments of others about Insteon hibs and cameras. Smarthome had the cameras and hub for sale in a refurbished condition. Decided this would be a good and inexpensive way to start my security setup. The price was great. After three days of going thru the setup the cameras will not work thru in the wireless mode. Had an IT person try to get them to work in the wireless mode. No luck. I haven't decided to keep trying or to send them back."

I hate smartpost, spam and constant emails.
"Smarthome was originally x10. You remember x10 the guys who sold terrible home automation and were notorious at spam? Well, that's mostly still true. Put something into your cart, a day later you get the "you forgot" email. A day after that you get the "get 10% off" email and a few days later you get another coupon offer. I've tried unsubscribing but it doesn't seem to work. While they are a good source for home automation products their practices are shady at best. Lastly they use smartpost shipping. That's where they have UPS or Fed Ex pick teh item up but have teh post office do teh delivery. In my experience that just takes longer. "

Nice trick - not what I wanted - but a description that cleverly does not say everything about the product
"I was looking for a remote control switch. "Remote" in their case means not directly attached to the unit you are trying to control - but it still requires wires. I guess a "non remote" would be the switch on the lamp. In other words, by their definition, a TV remote control is one that has a wire that runs from their hand-held unit to their TV. Wireless? No - just "not directly part of the TV". In other words, running 110 volt wires along your floor is their idea of a "remote control". Smarthome? No - just smart deception. Nice trick, Smarthome - I will not waste time recovering the $25 I spent on this useless thing you sold me. I will read more carefully next time. But I will look for the word "Smarthome" because that means "well written advertising designed to cleverly sell you something that is not quite what you wanted". I am sure you are going to love reading that you "got me". Deceit is satisfying to deceivers. Again, you did trick me. Congratulations."
"Free Delivery" takes for EVER!
"I have no problem with the Range Extender I purchased fro Smarthome. It works great, and was easy to install. However, had I known that the "free delivery" was going to take a week longer than any other delivery method, I would not have selected it. I find it deceitful when a package is shipped by one carrier, and after taking way too long, they hand it off to USPS so THEY look like they're the reason the package is delayed. Any package shipped by USPS would have taken much less time to deliver.The shipping terms should be CLEARLY stated. Better yet, Two-Day shipping should be free."
