"BEWARE! Playstation operates their game site in a highly trickster unethical way. Warning to allgGrandparents, aunts, uncles, family friends, & parents. NEVER, EVER use or loan a credit card (or especially a debit card which have no protections) for use with anything Playstation, online.

Due to its huge size (SONY), gets away with online charge practices that would get a small business up on criminal Fraud charges. The Encyte hocus pocus "natural" sex enhancement founder and owner is in prison for doing something similar with credit cards. He offered free trials, demanding cards for shipping and handling charges, then "for your convenience" shipped six months worth, charged to your card. By the way this is a common scam now. TV advertised "free trials" meant to get your credit or debit card number for "shipping & handling" and then for "your convenience", auto shipping you product for top dollar and eccessive shipping fees.

Playstation site makes it clear throughout the process that you can use a credit or debit card to place a specific amount into a "wallet" for a child or youth. You are supposed to think this is a one time charge for an online version of a gift card. NOT SO! NOWHERE and at NO TIME in front of you in the process does Playstation indicate that doing so LINKS your card to everything and anything the child does thereafter!

I wondered why Playstation did not include a Paypay option and why they accepted debit cards. Now, I know. Because, they did not accept Paypal, I was very cautious and told my grandson I will put money in his "wallet" only if they accept Discover Card, as Discover Card has the best security department in the Credit business.

Eight hours later, Discover security calls me to inform me that they put a temporary hold on my card because of some suspicious activity, a STRING of charges from Playstation to my card! They stopped them after three in a row, saving me hundreds of dollars. I am certain neither Visa or Mastercharge would have done this or called me so soon.

Again I strongly advise people using Discover Card gives you an extra layer of security. For online, Paypal is best, then Discover. (Better yet is Discover's option (for card holders) of getting single use credit numbers is even better.)

We can buy Playstation gift cards at stores like Walmart. Wnat to let a child have some money to use Playstation online? Get him a gift card. Playstation cannot stealth link your finances to a child's video gaming account by way of a gift card.

My condemnation of Playstation is FAIR. Roku digital video player company is an example of an ethical practice. When you buy a Roku box, you connect to TV and your wireless system, and by registering. Part of registration is entering a credit card for streaming pay video. Roku makes it simple and clear you are linking your card AND Roku gives you a pin and a password. YOU CANNOT unknowingly be charged for a stream because BEFORE you can stream a pay stream or service, you are clearly told the cost and you MUST enter your pin (like a signature). You have an option to add a password requirement to prevent anyone other than you to get pay material.

Playstation does absolutely none of this. They suck you in with what you are supposed to see as an online version of a gift card, what Playstation calls a "Wallet". See for yourself. DO not take my word for it! Go to the site and search for information about using your card to put money in a wallet. You will find "policies" buried in a totally separate area and it is overly detailed, complex and wordy. That my friends is slick legal "cover you rear" crap, not the practice of a respectable company you can trust. What I am saying is simple.

Do not make the mistake of trusting you get fair play from Playstation. Keep your credit and debit cards in your wallet. Do not even think of using them online with anything Playstation, unless you first read hundreds of words of legalese policy because I assure you Playstation or your credit or debit card company will insult you by insinuating your loss is ALL YOUR FAULT for not reading the pages of policy (meaning for not having attended law school).

Two ways to legally con people of their money. 1) fast talk and overly complex "package" mumbo jumbo (examples: Auto salesmen and Cable TV sales staff) and 2) lawyer written small print, detailed, jargon filled policy pages tucked somewhere.
