Exede/Viasat Internet Service Is Horrible

"I have, for approximately three years, had Exede satellite internet service at my house in Nelson County, VA, and for those almost three years I have sung Exede's praises for speed and price. That all changed last month. For a little over a month now, while my download speeds during the morning hours have been in the 12-16 mbps range, as they always were all day and night in the past, but afternoon and evening download speeds have dropped to consistently 0.26-0.50 mbps or totally unable to connect. I called Exede/ViaSat to discuss this degradation of service, and the tech who was supposedly "helping" me just kept repeating over and over that there is a lot of traffic on evenings and weekends and that is the reason for the slow speeds. I explained to her that I am a retired IT professional and totally understand reduced bandwidth availability in the presence of a lot of traffic and asked what Exede/ViaSat planned to do to correct the situation. Again, she repeated that the reason for the slow speeds afternoons and evenings was the presence of heavy traffic during those times. Again, I told her I understood the effect of heavy traffic on bandwidth and asked what Exede/ViaSat was going to do to address my concerns. I told her my plan was for average download speeds of 12 mbps and it was totally unacceptable that I was consistently getting downloads of 0.26 to 0.50 mbps. She then told me, once again that I could expect slower speeds evenings and weekends because of network traffic. I asked it I was supposed to be satisfied with internet service that was essentially non-existent in the evenings for my $60 per month rate. Again, she told me the degradation of service was due to heavy network traffic evenings. Then she asked if there was anything else she could help me with. I asked, "What do you mean is there anything ELSE you can help me with - you haven't helped me with the problem for which I called you to begin with!" She again asked if there was anything else she could help me with. I replied, "Yes, let me speak with your supervisor, please." Her reply was that she would see if there was a supervisor available to speak with me. Naturally, there was not a supervisor available, but she said she would be happy to put my name on a list for a return call from a supervisor. I asked if I could expect to receive said supervisor's call within a couple of hours and she told me, "No, it will be three to five days." Then she asked again if there was anything else she could help me with. I told her absolutely not and hung up. It has been six days now since that encounter with the tech, and, naturally, I have not received a call from a supervisor. "
