"This place is beyond horrid. It is no shock the website is closing down. I purchased almost $150 worth of items from the place. The shipping as others have mentioned was expensive. Then to add to that the time it took to actually reach my house was a joke. That however was not the worst of it.

I ordered parts for a sukhoi plane. The parts I received where worse than b stock. The body was so twisted and mangled that the cockpit wouldn't even fit on it. The entire mid section was twisted all over the place and the center inside was not even glued together anymore. The tail section was twisted so far sideways there is no way it work. The main wings where just as bad. It is as if these where just thrown around and had large indents in them. Every part I got from them was worse than b stock. I emailed and sent pictures to the company but they stated that they could do nothing, it had been too long. Really because the length of time was shipping time!!! Never do business with them."

"I ordered two Walthers passenger cars from Lantz/Wholesale Trains on January 15, 2016. The total price for the two cars was $72.01. On January 20th I received an e-mail from Lantz (I didn't know who "Lantz" was the before this e-mail and at first thought it was bogus) notifying me that the "Order" had been shipped.

Today, I picked up the mail and there was a small Priority Mail package so I wondered what it was. When I opened the package there was a single Walthers passenger. Wait a minute, I ordered two cars.

I went back to the e-mail from Lantz and there was NOTHING about the order being "short" and I have not received any subsequent e-mails from Lantz/Wholesale Trains.

The car they shipped cost just over $32.00 - and the shipping charge was $11.15! That's absolutely ludicrous - and BS!

Wholesale Trains' web site doesn't provide any information about shipping charges or offer alternatives to having the item shipped other than Priority Mail. I should have figured something was up because when I was ready to complete the order there was NO SHIPPING CHARGE listed.

In fact, the Invoice I received had the following statement -

We appreciate your business at WholsaleTrains.com. We will send you an e-mail confirmation of your order within two business days. This e-mail will include:
1. Confirmation of Your Wholesaletrains.com Order Number
2. A confirmation of the final total of items purchsed, not including any shipping.

"I purchased a Lionel train set in the early morning hours of the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. The website indicated that the item was in stock. Right after I placed the order I went online to look at the reviews of Lantz Hobby dba Wholesaletrains.com. Whoa! Lots of negative reviews interspersed with reviews stating that they had just made a purchase and then discovered the negative reviews but that that had not been their experience! There were so many that it looked like they may have been planted to look good because the bad reviews were so nasty. My experience: Lantz Hobby processed my order within 12 hours and had it shipped FedEx. When I placed my order the only unknown was the shipping cost. I did not see any shipping options so I had no control over the shipping. I was charged about $20 for the FedEx shipment. FedEx delivered my package to suburban Detroit four days after I placed my order! Overall a great experience at a great price! Thanks Lantz Hobby!!"

"I'm so glad that I didn't see these reviews before I ordered from wholesale trains or I wouldn't have ordered from them. However I didn't and I'm so glad. I ordered a train at a great price a few weeks ago. Got a confirmation immediately. Got the train in less than a week. So I ordered another one and had the exact same experience.. My second train just arrived. I am really shocked at the bad reviews this company has gotten and so ,any of them too! "I ran into their website and the prices were very good in train area. I ordered items going off their stating the items were in stock. Five days later, no delivery nor any billing to my charge card. I called this morning and asked what was the delay. They started giving a story and basically said the items were not there and would be in tomorrow. I brought up that the items I ordered stated were in stock. I also brought to light that the Walters SF Chief had shown all cars were available. This was deception to get your order. When the truth comes out and want to cancel, they charge a cancellation fee. This woman on the phone became a bit hostile about charging a cx fee. I've read a few reports of some customers being disgruntled over service and rudeness. They were 100% correct. EVERYONE..AVOID SPENDING ANYTHING WITH THIS COMPANY. "Buyer Beware!!! Joined there Buyers Club. Found what I beleived to be a good deal on a Parkzone Albatros. $30.00 off regular price. Free shipping! Do not let them get you on this too. They sent me a email saying owed full amount. Called that day to dispute charge. Was assured I got the club discount it just shows on the email as full price. Was told I was charged the $109.99. Plane arrived and found with bank statement they indeed did charge me with shipping. Shipping was $30.08. After trying numerous times to call I finaly got ahold of someone. It was a oversize fee!! Told them I could get this from numerous venders with free shipping! Sorry is a big box is all I could get as a response. I am a business owner myself and could not imagine deceiving and handling my customers in this manner. Just goes to show a person should do there homework and check reviews before doing buisness with a new store. "

"They may have good prices, but that does not negate the fact that they have non-existent customer service. After placing my order on a holiday I immediately emailed saying I wasn't sure I ordered the right thing so wanted to confirm first. They emailed back immediately after the holiday that they couldn't answer product-specific questions and that I had to ask Lionel directly in this case. I then immediately emailed back asking that they do not ship the order until I could confirm with Lionel. They didn't respond back to that so I emailed again a few hours later (didn’t get a response to this one either). Then I see they shipped the order anyway later that night (even though they obviously had seen the 1st email since they had responded back to it first thing in the morning). I emailed again the next day and then they finally responded back that it can take 2 to 3 days to read emails so there was nothing they could do. I will never order from this company again."

"GOOD JOB WT! After I placed an order with Wholesale Trains I noticed bad reviews. I completely do not agree with these negative reviews. I placed my order on a Friday in December, got a quick email confirming my order. With their free shipping I had my locomotive the next Friday! (One week total turn around just before Christmas!) WT's prices and delivery are better than the other train site that starts with a 'W". One thing, I verified that the product was in stock before placing my order -- it seems to me as if some of these negative reviewers may not be doing that. Finally, I was so happy with my experience that I just placed another order. GOOD JOB WT!"

"I recently ordered g scale brass track by USA Trains from Wholesale Trains 5 days before Christmas. It arrived two days after Christmas, no problem, it was sooner than I expected. I went with Wholesale Trains because they had the most information about the track and listed all the products available. They indicate what they can ship immediately. I am not terribly concerned with how accurate this is but they need to be accurate if they want to be a success. Customers expect a higher level of service these days. I am disappointed that I never got an email that my order had shipped. Shipping cost was more than I expected but the product was less than I expected so I ended up paying less than I thought I would."

"These guys are pirates who have a business model based on selling things without having them in stock and when the customer (you) get frustrated they charge your credit card 15% to restock the product they don't have. Simply a case of taking advantage of its customers.

I complained to manufacturer who supplies Wholesale Trains and they contacted them and "persuaded" them to let me cancel my order for backordered item without paying a 15% restocking fee. That said, it should not require a key supplier to Wholesale Trains to pressure them to do the right thing. I just happened to be lucky enough to know how to contact the supplier and explain to them how onerous it is to do business with one of their dealers. "

"DO NOT ORDER FROM THESE SCAMMERS! They apparently make their money from charging a huge cancellation fee when you cancel because they can't deliver what they promised. I ordered an O Scale train set. After about 10 days when I hadn't received any shipping notification, or any correspondence for that matter, I called them. I was told that my order was only a "pre-order" , news to me, and that my product wouldn't ship until the last of Nov. or first of Dec. When I told them that was unaccceptable, I was curtly told that manager would call me. Well they cancelled my order all right, and charged me $22.87 to do it. At this point, my "order" was just an email. They had absolutely NO investment in time or labor concerning my order, yet charged me 20% to cancel. These people are scammers from the word "Go" Do not buy from them!!! They will take your money and laugh all the way to the bank."

"I've seen lots of negative reviews for these guys on the web which scared the heck out of me since I saw them AFTER placing a pre order with them. Shame on me for not doing my research first. Owning a business myself, I know that the majority of dissatisfied customers will take the time to write a review while a small percentage of satisfied customers will write. The negative reviews paint a bad picture, but I have to report a very positive experience with them.

I pre ordered two 6 packs of Walthers RD-4s with them because they had the lowest price I found on the net. $91/6 pack $129 MSRP. They shipped the items out the same day they became available on Walthers site. They charged me a little over $17 for shipping which I would say is slightly high, but still reasonable. A USPS Flat Rate Box would've been a few bucks cheaper(and faster) than FedEx. The bottom line is even when factoring shipping costs, the sets were $99 apiece which was the next lowest price I found not including shipping.

I had no contact with customer service, but at this point they've given me no reason not to order from them again."
