"I purchased a video card from this site and selected next day air shipping. Using their online order form, I submitted the required information and paid using a credit card which I use every day. I promptly received an e-mail confirmation of my order containing all expected information. My credit card statement quickly showed a pending authorization for the amount of the order. I fully expected a shipping notice the following day. What I received instead was an e-mail from the merchant containing a Word file asking me to provide my credit card details, billing/shipping addresses, my signature and photocopies of both my credit card and driver's license (front and back). This was supposedly a measure to prevent fraud. There was nothing during the order process that suggested this additional step was forthcoming. I then replied explaining that this measure would not prevent fraud, but would, in fact, encourage it. This e-mail was not a secure form, nor was there any way for me to know what would become of the personal and financial information I sent them after they used it for the transaction. Am I supposed to just assume they'd shred it? Upon explaining this to them in my reply, without a word they canceled my order within a few hours. I have just one question for VGAstore.com... If photocopies of my credit card and my driver's license are sufficient to prevent fraud in that they serve to prove my identity after the point of sale, then what is to prevent whomever gets his hands on this information later from using it to do the same? Never again."
