"Well well...
Same here....
I bought a memory card.
It did not work because it was not the right capacity.
Then they asked me to give them a positive feedback in order to refund the money, which I did not to until I was sure this whole transaction was over.
Then I had the choice between 2 options:
1) post a positive feedback, return the card at my expenses and then get a refund
2) or upgrade the card: pay and extra $15 (in addition to the $10+ that I paid for a non working memory card), return the card at my own expenses and then I would get a new upgraded card (and then I assume, I would be asked to post a positive feedback ?...).

Anyhow, I chose the upgrade option.
I returned the card, saying that I was waiting for them to acknowledge that they received the returned package before I would carry on and proceed to the extra-fees...
I never heard back from them.
I just considered my $10 a loss. I did not bother filing a refund for ebay (I shoud have actually, it is just that I did not have time to di it back then, and by the time we echanged back ad forth, it was too late anyway...)

"I made 2 purchases from SmileNTango on eBay who apparently also goes by the names Arumix Inc.,Durabaar, and Koybe. The first was 1Gb PC3200 High Density RAM. It didn't work, so I ordered 1Gb PC3200 Low Density RAM from them. When the second RAM didn't work, I started researching the numbers on the chips. I found the manufacturers and datasheets for all the RAM. The first RAM was 512Mb instead of 1Gb even though it had a label on it saying it was 1Gb. The second RAM, (also marked 1GB PC3200), was 512Mb PC2700 High Density RAM even though it was supposed to be 1GB PC3200 Low Density. One incorrect label and shipment I could understand possibly as a mistake. Two in a row within a matter of days flat shows deliberate dishonesty. I took pictures of the RAM showing the part numbers and labels. I sent the pics and links to the datasheets to SmileNTango proving their fraud and demanded a full refund and prepaid postage to return their product BEFORE I sent it back. They gave me excuses and the run around and finally said it was eBay policy for buyers to pay return shipping before a refund. I escalated my claim to eBay and received a full refund 4 HOURS AFTER I FILED. That's how solid the evidence was. I also filed mail fraud complaints with the USPS. Even though I got my full refund back, many haven't been as fortunate. Just do a Google search for "smilentango fraud" and you'll see what I mean. I suggest everyone do the same if they've been scammed to get these guys shut down. The more complaints the USPS gets about someone, the more likely they'll take action and press charges. Mail fraud not only carried stiff fines, but also involves jail time."

"Just came across this site for reviews,
Ordered "4GB PC6400 DDR2 800 PC2 6400 800MHz 240PIN MEM 2GB x 2" And as the other folks the memory wasnt the right memory and If I gave them good rating they would give me a refund, or for an extra 27.75 they would send me the proper memory for my computer, I e-mailed another member and gee the same thing happened to them. Its a scam they have come up with to take our money that seems to be perfectly legal and falls into a gray area of ebay, I would never deal with them again and suggest everyone to think twice, I told them they were crazy to think I was gonna give them a positive rating when I'm sitting here with 100.00 of worthless memory..I had to pay for the return and insurance on the bad memory along with an extra 27.75 for the memory I thought I was buying in the first place..Good luck...

"Ditto the earlier comments... They specifically stated it their ad that their RAM would work with my chipset and then acknowledged after the sale that it wouldn't, and wanted more money to correct the problem.

These swindlers have kept their Ebay ratings in the 90's by adding the following line to the bottom of their product return agreement:

"Refund value is Buy now Price Minus Restocking fee. We partially waive this fee customer gives positive feedback or if you want store credit for future purchase."

In other words, you'll get your money back if you don't give them a negative rating! I've lost what little respect I had for Ebay because they continue to allow "Smilentango" to blatantly rip people off. Avoid these criminals at all costs!

"Just wanted to add further negative comments about this seller.

My original order consisted of 2x 1GB modules.
I recieved two modules, the chips on the ram showed no lettering or model number. Looked as though they were removed somehow.
Same story though, only half the memory was detected.
Reply back was the incorrect density etc etc...
Many complaints back and forward, refund would cost 15% of the total.. Only option was to 'upgrade'after paying a higher amount.

Hopefully these reviews are recieved by more people. Unsure why ebay still lets them sell items.
Stay clear.

"I have an update to my comments below. I filed a complaint and eBay did NOTHING.

This outfit has been scamming people for quite a while and amazingly eBay refuses to kick them off.

The bottom line here is that you can't buy with confidence on eBay. Never again. I am through with eBay.

----------------------

I had a similar experience but was able to receive a partial refund.

I ordered 1GB PC3200 but received 512MB PC2100 that was defective although it was labeled 1GB PC3200.

I believe the positive Ebay feedback this outfit received is bogus. I sent messages to a couple of the Ebay members that left positivie feedback but got no response.

In any event Smiley has the people at Ebay and Paypal completely fooled and has victims in several countries.

"I purchased RAM on Ebay from this seller that was incompatible with my system (VIA KT600) despite auction claim that RAM was compatible. After complaining to seller, they recommended that I instead return the RAM and "upgrade" to their "guaranteed compatible" RAM. This is plain BAIT-AND-SWITCH! After refusing and demanding full refund, I returned the item as directed by seller. Seller then stated that I must first cancel the Ebay transaction and leave positive feedback or remove any negative feedback before refund would be granted. As requested, I canceled the transaction but then only received a partial refund. After complaining again, seller stated that only partial refund was given to cover sales tax and "handling fees". I was again told that I could purchase higher priced RAM with a "discount". This is FRAUD and my experience is exactly as described by others (see http://www.steampile.com/web/web/4a9c01c33dde8). This seller practices Ebay feedback extortion and is a BAIT-AND-SWITCH operation."

"Horrible experience. Ordered 1GB memory. Received 512MB instead. They claimed my motherboard was not compatible and offered “guaranteed-to-work” memory at a steep price. I declined. I sent items back. Seller claimed items were not received. They never refunded my money. Avoid at all costs!"

"After purchasing improperly listed RAM, I left negative feedback. The listing was intentionally misleading. I was asked for additional funds to solve the issue. I was then emailed several times with requests to remove the negative feedback, with promises that the situation would be rectified. After communicating with Ebay, and removing the feedback, all correspondence stopped from SmilenTango. I recommend being very cautious when and if you purchase anything from them."

"Stay away from Smilentango/Arumix Inc/Durbaar! They are dishonest, rip-off merchants who will cheat and defraud you and then blackmail you into giving them an undeserved a 5-star positive eBay rating. If you have been cheated or extorted by them, I urge you to also file complaints with eBay, PayPal and the government as I am doing.

This is what happened to me when I bought from them on eBay :

I bought two memory sticks for an old computer and was sent "high-density" junk (highly-incompatible) memory that does not work. I have since learned that name-brand manufacturers do not make or distribute this type of memory since it will not work on most computers. Smilentango's eBay ad persuaded me to buy by giving the false impression that they were selling me first-quality compatible memory, since the ad states "satisfaction Guaranteed, 30-Day Money-Back Guaranty [and] Lifetime Warranty."

After being baited into buying useless non-working memory, I sent many e-mails and left three phone call messages, I was finally e-mailed that I would be able to get switched to working memory for about three times the amount I paid - but only if I left 5-star positive feedback first. If I wanted a full refund, I was told that I could get it only after I left this positive feedback and returned the memory at my own expense. If I did not leave positive feedback first, I was instructed that I would get a small part (about 1/3) of what I paid. In any case, I would have to pay return shipping and for proof of delivery without reimbursement.

In my opinion, sending me useless memory that was known not to work on most computers and then trying to force me to pay three times the price for compatible memory and pressuring me to leave positive feedback after all of this, is at the very least, false advertising, bait and switch, fraud and feedback extortion. By charging shipping fees that are more than the price of the memory for an item that weighs a few ounces by regular US Mail (it took over a week to arrive) and extorting large exchange fees outside of eBay, this company appears to also be cheating eBay out of commissions.

I have filed complaints with eBay and PayPal and intend to file criminal and civil complaints with the Better Business Bureau, the US Postmaster General (for mail fraud) and with my state and California's Attorney Generals. This company is giving honest eBay and PayPal merchants like me a black eye. Smilentango, AKA Arumix, also DBA Durbaar should be forced out of business and the people perpetrating these illegal and unethical acts should be thrown in jail.
