"I bought a keyboard from Smart Imports that comes from Japan. Apparently Japan Post had halted shipments from Japan to the US. I got an email from customer service informing me that my order would be delayed for an unknown amount of time. I happened to order a companion number pad from Amazon, also an import from Japan just afterwards and it arrived in 3 days via DHL.

When I contacted customer service asking them to ship with another service, I was told shipping via DHL would cost $50 and they weren't willing to spend that on shipping and that they'd "lose too much money". When I pointed out that I had already paid $52 in shipping they changed their story and promised to ship it out DHL. The keyboard eventually arrived by UPS fairly quickly after they actually shipped it. It was well packaged and in brand new condition as described and works well so I'm happy with my purchase, just not the customer service and shipping.

It seems to me that this operation is selling Japan Post's presumably cheap shipping at a premium in order to profit off it which is kind of crappy, but if you're going to do that you had better cover the cheap shipping service when it isn't operating instead of making your customers wait for weeks and weeks and weeks just so you can make a few bucks more on shipping.
