"I've had two very poor experiences with ProSoft Engineering, both with Drive Genius and Data Rescue 4. Both products were purchased through Otherworld Computing and when problems arose with the software, due to incorrect serial numbers supplied with the product OR with a product that was sold for the operating system I used when the product was purchased and later learned that the software was not compatible with that OS. Other World Computing sells but does not support the products they sell claiming "We're so sorry. ProSoft's response is unacceptable but we can only refer you back to them."
ProSoft first provides an invalid serial number as a replacement, then says this software is no longer supported, then provides a .dng file with the latest version of that very software before it was discontinued but that software is the demo version that requires a valid serial number that they refust to provide.
To add insult to injury when my only option was to go to their Chat to resolve the problem I was told by Mark in Customer Service "Unfortunately, Data Rescue licenses are locked on one computer and cannot be transferred and reset."
I replied that the program was purchased and forst installed on an earlier MacBook Pro that had an OS that was supported and Mark abruptly ended the chat without responding. Had I known that Data Rescue licenses are locked on one computer and cannot be transferred I would never have purchased the license, yet neither Other World Computing nor ProSoft indicated such on their websites when I purchased the product. Data Rescue 4 was never once used because the original serial number was invalid and ProSoft refused to provide a valid serial number.
Avoid these crooks as they do not support what they sell."
