Don't do it!!!!

"If you are thinking about doing business with Powertrain Products, my advice is DON'T DO IT! Absolutely the worst mistake I've ever made! This started almost 2 years ago and is still going. I purchased a transmission for my Chevy Silverado and they were quick to send it. It lasted about 17, yes 17 miles. This is when the nightmare started. They made the transmission guy do all kinds of tests including putting some transmission fluid in a bottle, to take a picture of it and send it to them. It took almost 2 months to finally get them to replace the **** and another 2 weeks to get said ****. When old trans was sent back to them they had to " inspect it to determine what happened". This took another month. Finally, they agreed to cut a check but only for $75.00 an hour for 8 hours and a $25.00 allowance for fluid. That comes to a grand total of $625.00, equal to almost half of what it cost to get a transmission swapped out. Number 2 lasted 1500 miles and started going out . Back to a transmission shop and again more tests and hoops to jump through including a mass airflow sensor test before they would do anything. This time it was a 3.5 month ordeal to get the 3rd **** in and now they have the 2nd one back in their shop telling me it will be between 30 and 90 days before they cut another puny little $ 625.00 check to me. Meanwhile I have a total of over $ 6,000 dollars wrapped up in a transmission (including the original purchase price) and almost a year of my truck being inoperable for a transmission that I don't trust to get me to the end of my driveway. So thank you to Dan and all the other employees of Powertrain Products. The only thing they did an excellent job of was screwing me out of a lot of time, money and peace of mind ! Sorry there is not a negative star rating because they don't even deserve the one star. "

Buyers Beware

"My experience was a huge disappointment from the start. First of all they sent me the wrong engine tying up the shops lift for a month. Then once we received the replacement one when we started it up oil was running out of the oil pan. After submitting a claim we replaced the gasket. To find out the gasket wasn't even close to being installed correctly. So I had asked for a full replacement cost. haha To find out that they would only cover 50% of the bill of $450.00 Then here is another disappointment, 5 months later still no check, and after numerous calls all I get is a runaround. Still no check cut as of today. Don't use this company they don't stand behind their product nor do they pay for warranty costs. "

BUYER BEWARE!!!

"BUYER BEWARE!!!, I received a transmission for my Chevy Silverado 2500, DEFECTIVE from the start, started making a whining noise when shifting that increased in volume from the first mile through trouble shooting with Powertrain Products Warrantee dept. Approximately 200 miles were all the unit was used, 50 were before diagnostics were began. unit installed last week of January 23, warranty claim filed in April after several week of testing at mechanic. NOTE: if you receive a unit that is defective Powertrain Products will not stand behind that fact and will only cover a portion of the cost to install a second unit. I asked Dan @ PP about testing and why if it was dyno tested how could i receive a defective trans, his reply is it could have happened during shipping, which i find hard to believe. I'm out $750 to install second trans. My mechanic will not use Powertrain products again, getting paid for warrantee took more than 2 months. My advice is got to GM and get a remanufactured unit, at least you can rely on getting good customer service."

Powertrain - known problems

"Be careful about purchasing from this company. Investigate local installers prior to purchasing. Local installers refuse to work directly with Powertrain due to poor reputation. I purchased an engine which failed within 6 months, and less than 1K miles. Per Powertrain warranty department this was a known manufacturer issue. Company did replace engine, however, did not cover new install cost; which I had to pay. Powertrain defaulted to limited warranty language (4 months later); rather than step-up and cover full install, as this was a known problem."

This company is a joke.

"I have a transmission that I bought from Powertrain, and they were fantastic to buy from, but Four months later, when the transmission went out, and I needed to file a warranty claim, it was a nightmare. I have called and asked for a call back six times. No one will call me back; it's been two days. My truck is back in the shop. I paid extra for the bigger warranty, and the customer service is the worst I have ever experienced. I want better service now.
____ I just received an update from this review where a person told me the biggest lie ever. I am now on day three, and still, nothing has happened.
A lady in the warranty department called the mechanic shop and asked a few questions, which have been answered. The techs have yet to reach out to the shop to start the process. They have plenty of people to sell you items but are shorthanded to take care of you after the sale. This transmission made 2,000 miles before it broke down. I have asked for a supervisor several times, and they give me a dead-end voicemail where no one returns my calls. I WILL KEEP ADDING TO MY REVIEW TO KEEP EVERYONE INFORMED ON HOW THIS COMPANY IS HANDLING ME, GOOD OR BAD. EVERYTHING IS BAD SO FAR.
Here we are, 4-18-23. The parts they sent to fix the transmission were the wrong parts. The mechanic shop is back, waiting for the next set of parts. The truck has now been down for 21 days with no end in sight.
They have now informed me they are shipping another transmission to replace the defective one.
It is now 4-20-23, and the transmission has not even shipped yet. I am now up $1,127 in rental car fees.
It is now 4-25-23 The replacement transmission finally showed up on 4-24-23. Because the transmission took so long to get here, they can't put my truck back in the shop until Thursday, the 27th.
As of today, my rental car fees are now $1,393.60. Now this has cost me $2,000 more than if I had bought a new Chevy transmission from General Motors. My truck has now been in the shop for a total of one month and five days from the time we filed the warranty claim.
It is now 5-3-23 My truck was finally fixed on 4-28-23. I emailed Power Trans the following Monday with a copy of the invoice from the mechanic shop requesting my reimbursement of the $1,548 that I had to come up with. I have yet to hear from them, letting me know when I would be paid back.
Getting the truck fixed took 33 days and cost me $1,880 in rental fees and $1,548 in shop fees. I will follow up here on how long it takes them to pay me back or if they even pay me back at all for the shop fees. I would have saved over $3,000 if I had purchased the transmission from Chevrolet.
It is now 5-16-23, and I have not been reimbursed for the cost of the repairs that were included in my warranty. They told me two weeks ago that they would send me a check. I will report back when I finally get paid in full.
It is now 5-25-53 I am still waiting to receive my reimbursement check. This company is a fraud.

Refuse to honor warranty

"Powertrain products is a horrible business they sold me an engine with warped heads then refused to repair or replace them the entire process was like pulling teeth to the very end (9 months later ) where they just flat out burned me I’m a disabled veteran so if they’ll rip me off every one is fair game."

Untrust worthy Run away

"Bought a 4.7 L motor and had an ASE certified shop install it. The motor would not hold compression in #1 cylinder and had metal shaving in the oil pan. They sent me another motor that I had to pay additional labor to remove and reinstall. I called several times to be told could be 60 day process... They never called me back. When I called Dan in warranty told me he didn't know why I hadn't been paid. I left 2 messages for supervisor Ashly that never called me back. I filed a complaint on the BBB yesterday and called Power train back today to be told my claim was denied. Poor product, poor warranty, poor service for everything. "

Bad Company, Worse Employees

"Bought a remanufactured motor with engine installation kit. Got the motor but had to call again to remind them of the engine installation kit or they might not have ever sent it. Then, half the stuff in the engine installation kit were the wrong parts (oil pan gasket, front crank seal, oil filter, belt etc. all wrong parts). Had to re-buy them again not to mention the waste of time in finding out that parts were wrong and did not fit – what a nightmare. Called their support one time only to find out their support person is also their warranty person and while he may know the warranty stuff he did not know engines so of course received the wrong/bad information (needless to say I never call their support again although I did try one time to email their support and I am still waiting for a reply). The first sales person I spoke with got mad when I asked a couple of questions like what comes on the long block and how long will it take to receive the motor. Should have walked away right then. My only concern besides the wasted money in having to re-buy those installation parts is that I also bought the 7-year warranty. I hope I never have to use it but if I do, I now have concerns if they will honor it or what other nightmare I will have to go through in dealing with them. Wish I would have chosen another company."

"Besides the engine being defective. I had to do diagnostic i didn't get paid for replace engine at discounted labor no payment for oil filter coolant shop fees cleaning supplies and takes months to get paid"

Do not order an engine from them.

"I purchased a engine with the extended warranty. The cam fazers went bad. When I found a shop that would do they warranty work, as they would not help me find one. When my shop, called Lester in the warranty department, he told my shop to order the parts and put them in. He did not tell them to do the job any certain way, just to put them in. Which they did. When the job was completed, my shop returned the defective parts along with the bill for the parts and their labor. Powertrain only sent the a check for $500, which they marked claim paid in full. My shop has tried to call them, and either they get put on hold and hung up on, or when they leave a message, they don't get a call back. I talked to Lester 2 weeks ago, after my shop called me. I told him, they are not cashing the check, because the parts cost is not included. As for the money they did receive, Lester told me, that is all they are paying to do the job, as it was suppose to be done a certain way. My shop states, by 2 people (including the mechanic), that Lester never told them how to do it, just to put them in. As of today, this bill has not been paid. What good a warranty, when all you get is the run around from Lester in their warranty department. My shop, did the work, per Lester, and now they haven't been paid."

Bad 5.7 chevy engine lost compression

"I bought a reman 5.7 chevy engine from PP they sent the wrong engine for a 4x4 not even 3 months later it started to missfire on cylinder's 1 -2 -4 no 2. 65psi.no 4 80 psi. They only pay $75 per hour labor and the cheapest shop is $110. They refuse to pay anything if you do the work yourself. They leave me no choice but to replace the engine myself and then enter into litigation."

"This place is terible i bought a transmission for1800.00 lasted a month they sent out 2 more transmission everyone of them failed with less then 500 miles the shop that did the warranty work has had to wait for around a month for the money I am now trying to get my money back and they are giving me a run around finally called the Maryland Attorney Generals Office.Do not deal with this company they are a joke.They used to be Mid Atlantic Engines in Maryland"
