My only suggestions to first time buyers is to absolutely read the user reviews for something before you buy it. This has saved my butt several times from accidentally buying a dud. If something is brand new and doesn't have reviews, just wait! If something sells out right away, you can be sure that there will be reviews within the week and that ModCloth will be re-stocking the item soon enough.
I also suggest to use discretion when they say "fits large size down". I have taken their advice twice on this and had it not be the case both times.
If you're picky about fabrics, make sure that you look at the item details before you buy.... 90 dollars for a dress made entirely of polyester? No thanks!
Overall, I have NEVER been unhappy with anything that I have purchased on ModCloth and I owe that to religiously reading user reviews and being confident in knowing my body measurements.
Be careful if you live in Canada though because there is a chance of having to pay duty (this happened to me for the first time a few days ago. I have NEVER had to pay duty on ModCloth packages before!). I would suggest getting the more expensive shipping. I got the cheaper shipping last time and it ended up costing me 15 dollars PLUS 33 dollars in duty fees... really... just pay for the more expensive shipping so this doesn't happen to you too!!"
"The dress I ordered from ModCloth was never delivered- it appears the package was stolen. However, I have to say that the customer service is excellent. The representative I have been working with, Nicole C. is fantastic, and she has corresponded to me via email in a very timely manner since this was my preferred method of communication due to my busy schedule. Unfortunately the dress in my size sold out and could not be re-shipped, but I was immediately offered a full refund of my purchase. I will definitely order from ModCloth again in the near future. i ordered a coat and it came with a slightly wonky arm, as the seam was slightly askew. i contacted their customer care centre and explained the situation, that i loved the coat but that the arm was wonky. as i am an international customer, their policy states that i can only receive a refund with the return of the product. i was expecting them to ask me to first return the coat before refunding me. however, they gave me the full refund immediately and told me that the damaged coat need not be returned as they had inconvenienced me enough. obviously they deal with this sort of thing all the time and having dealt with returns with other online companies, this was still exceptional.

"Modcloth's styles and always find something that suits me. I live in Australia and advantage of buying from Modcloth is that I can get in season outfits at sale prices. It is a popular site and user friendly and I find the ratings and comments section very useful. The disadvantage for me is that making returns by Australia Post airmail is expensive; it cost me $A40 (US 39) to return 1.2 kg package(three dresses). However, the customer service at Modcloth is excellent and international clients get a 10% discount on orders over 100 US. I often recommend Modcloth to other Aussies but suggest that they buy items that have a number of reviews already posted. "
"Amazing customer service! I was so dissapointed when I recieved a slightly defect dress, and thought all the money I spent on it would be wasted as I could not return it in time to get a refund. I wrote to the customer center of ModCloth and did not only recieve a full refund (including shipping costs), but also a 25% discount on my next purchase, AND I got to keep the dress they sent me. "ModCloth is honestly the BEST store, online or otherwise, that I have *ever* shopped. They have the cutest clothes and things for the home. They have affordable, prompt shipping. Their customer service is really beyond comparison. Their returns and exchanges system is simple, fast, and free. I have rarely had an issue with any purchases (other than sizing varying by designer, which isn't their fault at all), but anytime I do, they fix it immediately and without hassle. "I ordered a blouse as a test run for ordering my bridesmaid's dresses. It was an international order, I chose the USPS option (no tracking) and sat and waited. And Waited. AND WAITED. I also sent three emails to customer service in the meanwhile, asking about their estimate time of delivery, which went completeley unanswered. It's been two months now and I only learned that the order is in RETURN because I checked in on my account.
