Etsy is full of fraud and scammers - avoid!

"Etsy is full of fraud and scammers. Their contradictory policies enabled a particular scam but they don't care to fix the problem. They won't refund my money, even though I follower their explicit policy, and they refuse to even make any changes to stop the same scam from continuing. Not to mention the site now flooded with cheap cr*p from overseas. Buyer beware. Avoid."

Bad Customer Services for Business Owners

"I did not understand what is wrong with the product I uploaded since I see similar items on Etsy. It also seems extreme to close my store for one item. The notifications showed me I needed to change the wording, which I did multiple times. I submitted a case for someone to please help me but instead they just closed my account.

I did not receive the correct support from the Etsy team in understanding what was wrong. If someone is not understanding the internal policies, you should have a representative (real person) reach out and explain, basically make it more humane and work with the store owner. An automated general email is not enough.

I am extremely sad and disappointed on the Etsy customer service for small business owners.

Multiple suspensions & closure for NO REASON

"Horrible experience. The platform is good is concept but needs to be burnt to ground and rebuilt. Even Ebay has pivoted, right in front of their face, and is now second to Amazon in Revenue and is 80-85% Buy Now vs old model auction house. Meanwhile Etsy is down 40% YOY; down 76% from pandemic high and is essentially right back to same stock price before pandemic lockdown. Utter failure to capture, convert and grow.

Extremely common comment: Suspend or Close store for no reason and with no explanation and no recourse.
My story...
Etsy's Trust & Safety, aka Distrust and your shop is Unsafe, or Dumb and Dumber, repeatedly suspend accounts, for NO reason, Without Explanation, with No Apology, but they will say, "done in error".
If you ask for an explanation, they close the account, without explanation. No policy violations, no policy warning(s), no outstanding balances' perfect shipping history, no complaints, only 5 star reviews. Closed. No discussion, no explanation.
My shop was Suspended 3X in essentially 8 weeks. Thank you for ending the nightmare early.

Absolute Waste of Time

"Worked so hard on my store and was doing well and without any notification/explanation or communication they suspended by account and my money is now stuck with them. There is no way of communicating with them in real time after account getting suspended. Their call back option doesn't work and keep giving an error msg and their online chat isn't available without an account. There is no email address to send an email to either and the appeal will be reviewed in 2 weeks. Absolutely disgraceful. I can't belive they are getting away with such things. They need to be held accountable for this."

DONT EVEN TRY IT!

"I have sat here for 2 days listing items on Etsy and now it won't let me input a credit card to list them!! It keeps highlighting my country--
USA--and will not accept any of the 8 cards I have put in. So I have spent an entire week naming my store, uploading photos, measuring, comping, describing all for naught. Guess I don't eat this week. thanks etsy

A Frustrating Nightmare

"I've been a seller on Etsy for quite some time, managing two distinct shops, "Shop A" and "Shop B." Unfortunately, my journey as an Etsy seller has been nothing short of a frustrating nightmare, leading me to give this platform a rating of 0 stars.

My ordeal began when "Shop B" was suspended by Etsy's automated bots. The reason cited was violation of their handmade policy. I suspect it's because of the same images we have on other marketplaces, such as Amazon Handmade. Etsy's response was swift, but far from fair. They sent alarming emails to my customers, warning them of potential order issues, even when orders were already in transit with tracking numbers. Automatic refunds were issued, leaving customers bewildered and my payment account drained. Shockingly, I couldn't even message my customers to assure them, as Etsy disables messaging when a shop is suspended.

Etsy's appeal process for suspended shops is deeply flawed. Sellers like me are denied the opportunity to speak to a human representative or provide documentation to prove the handmade nature of our items. Instead, we're left with no option but to admit fault and promise compliance with policies. If you're not guilty, it doesn't seem to matter. My appeal was unsuccessful, and most disheartening of all, they continued to also suspend my other "Shop A" – a completely different product line with no prior issues. Overnight, I lost income from both shops.

Adding insult to injury, Etsy's handling of payouts has been baffling. When my shops received a sudden surge of orders due to Google Ads, Etsy placed reserves on my payouts for months at a time. Their automated systems flagging suspicious activity resulted in a financial setback.

Equally distressing is Etsy's complete lack of seller support. Buyers frequently open cases instead of engaging in communication with sellers, leading to automatic refunds without sellers even being informed. The absence of meaningful support and communication is nothing short of shocking.

Etsy seems to want sellers to generate profits for them but fails miserably in providing the necessary support and fairness. My experience with Etsy has been a disheartening one, and I would strongly advise fellow sellers to save themselves time, effort, and frustration by exploring alternative platforms that truly value and support their sellers.

Suspended my account and I have no way of getting in calling them and they won't respond to my help request.

"They suspended my account because I logged into my account while I was out of town and they thought it was suspicious. They never gave me an explanation for it and made it very difficult for me to get my account reinstated. They didn't even give me a number to call and when I submitted help requests, they never responded. Now they are holding thousands of dollars from me and won't tell me why I can't get my funds deposited. I am moving on. Don't do business with Etsy. They do not care about their sellers.

Worst Experience trying to open an online store

"My recent encounter with Etsy has been nothing short of a catastrophe, and I feel compelled to share my harrowing experience. I entered into this venture with high hopes of opening my own online store, but Etsy's sheer incompetence and lack of transparency have shattered those dreams.

First and foremost, Etsy failed to follow through on their promise of opening my online store. Despite their enticing claims of providing a user-friendly platform for selling handmade products, the reality was starkly different. I meticulously followed their guidelines and completed all the necessary steps, only to discover that my store had never actually been established.

To make matters worse, Etsy began billing me fees for a store that was nothing more than a mirage! I received invoices for services I never received and products I never sold. It's painfully evident that Etsy is solely interested in wringing every last penny from its users, regardless of whether they deliver on their promises.

When I attempted to address this issue with Etsy, their customer support was conspicuously absent. They deactivated their 800-number, making it nearly impossible to get in touch with a live representative. Submitting a ticket online proved to be a Herculean task, and the response time was measured in days or even weeks. It's as if Etsy couldn't care less about their customers' concerns and is solely focused on extracting more money.

Now, here's the real kicker: Etsy has the audacity to demand payment for these fraudulent fees before they'll even consider closing my store, which never actually existed! It's a blatant attempt to extort money from me, and it's beyond disgraceful.

In conclusion, my experience with Etsy has been a complete and utter disaster. They failed to fulfill their promises, billed me for services that never materialized, and demonstrated an utter disregard for customer service and ethics. I strongly advise anyone contemplating using Etsy to seek out a more reliable and ethical platform for their online store needs. Etsy is nothing but a money-grabbing scam, and I deeply regret ever becoming entangled with them. Spare yourself the agony and avoid Etsy at all costs!

ETSY SELLER

"I am going to just give up and move to Shopify.

ETSY keeps sending notices to Verify my bank account before I can be paid.
Problem is my bank was sold. We are using a Credit Union now. You can't change bank accounts on ETSY. If you try to edit you are told the info provided doesn't match what is on file.

You try support but there is no topic that covers how to change banks.

I tried seller forums, YouTube and calling. You can't get anyone with a pulse.

When I joined ETSY is was amazing. But sadly now it's declined and no longer about those of us who take our time to create, and set up an item or a download to sell.

How frustrated am I? I have 2 severely strained wrists in splints from a bad fall. I am not supposed to use my hands until I heal for a few weeks. So in tremendous pain I write this.

Bad tech and zero customer service

"I placed five orders throughout the day at Etsy as I cam across and decided on different species of plant and seed that I wished to purchase. Most of the purchases were for my business. It took almost all day.
At the end of the day, after Paypal had accepted every purchase (because I had verified that I was the one making them) Etsy *cancelled every purchase*. One after another, I got emails that this had been cancelled and that had been cancelled.
I immediately attempted to contact a customer service rep. There is no longer a phone number to call! Worse, there is not way to chat with a person in this situation!
Having sought to get help with a purchase, I was led through a series of questions that would take me to a page that would ask me if I still needed help and tell me to click a button to get it. This button would take me back to the page whereat I had sought help in the first place and take me through the questions all over again and redirect me back to the first page again!
I spent all evening tracking down websites for the individual sellers and finding other places to put my order back together. Does it need saying: I do not intend to place another order with Etsy.com.

Etsy violated my rights

"As an etsy seller I invested everything into it. My shop had 5-star review you with a handful of negatives. I responded to every message immediately I posted my parcels within 1-2 days keeping all proof of postage as to provide the best service to keep customers coming back. I am an intellectual property right holder for the designs I create and my IP has been stollen. Having meet IP reports after finding fraudsters manufacturing my garments I was faced with a threat buy an etsy seller that they were going to return the favour I'm threatened that they had set up 5 Etsy accounts to damage my business so I told at sea and they said they couldn't do anything about it. The illegal fraudulent IP reports were made against me resulting in etsy removing my own intellectual property from the Etsy platform, 5 reports have been filed in total Etsy permanently removed shop from Etsy and banned me from ever selling or buying from etsy again. All evidence was collected of the fraudulent IP reports and sent to Etsy to review you and they have done absolutely nothing. I now continue to watch the fraudulent competitors use my intellectual property whilst making etsy and themselves money through fraud. I am trying to get people who have experienced this to connect with me in an attempt to take legal action because safe harbour rules are in place forfait business and this is by no means fair business. "

"Etsy is one of the worst marketplaces you can sell. Super height fees starting from 20% fees when you property check it!
As a seller, you have NO RIGHTS, NO SUPPORT, you loose!

ETSY, NEVER AGAIN!!!

"I am a buyer. Etsy cancelled my orders 3 TIMES!!! This is the MOST frustrating company I have EVER dealt with. There is no REAL way of contacting them. You will be in a digital merry go round FOREVER and get the SAME results, NOTHING! What kind of company makes it IMPOSSIBLE to spend money at? I think Etsy is on its last leg. I would AVOID Etsy like whatever DISEASE babylon is pushing on the masses at the moment."
