"First off, my order was shipped promptly and I received it within the stated time period. I received a call from a rep saying that my order was on hold because I entered an invalid CC#. After I corrected my error, the order was processed and shipped that same day.
My complaint is that the order was very poorly packaged. I ordered a CPU, and due to it's delicate nature and cost I expect that it be packaged well to prevent damage during shipment. The CPU packaging was stuffed in a UPS box that was too thin but also too long. The CPU box was slightly crushed so that it would fit in the UPS box. There were very few styrofoam "peanuts" in the box, and because thebox was too thin there was only padding on the ends of the CPU box and not on the sides. Because of the poor backaging the box was so crushed that one of the Intel seals was broken on the box.
While the chip was not damaged and works fine, I would expect that a product as delicate and expensive as a CPU would be securely packaged to prevent even the most remote possiblity of damage during shipment. Because of this I would not do business with this company again."

"STAY AWAY FROM THIS VENDOR
I originally ordered a MSI FX5950 Ultra-VTD256 card from this vendor. It was shipped with an obvious physical defect that was visible prior to inserting the product into a box to be shipped from their warehouse. The VGA card was missing a pin that would have bonded the heat sink to the card. This defect was visible from a viewing window on the retail box. This is a problem with MSI, not the vendor.
The card had to be RMA shipped back to Essential Computer. I shipped it via UPS Ground and noted that it was received on 12 April 2004 as expected. I couple days go by and I get no notification as to any status regarding the card replacement. The shipping charge was $53.44 U.S. Dollars.
As I am wondering what is going on, I called the company and spoke to Michael Lin at ***-***-**** x134. Michael was very professional and performed his job without being rude or unkind. He informed me that the company made the business decision to either refund me or have me select another product as they their vendor would not be carrying stock anymore. He told me that MSI was no longer producing the FX5950 Ultra-VTD256 and, thus, they could not acquire any of these products. The MSI website still lists this card for sale. I noted this. He mentioned that it has been discontinued. I cannot prove or disprove this statement. The product is no longer offered by Essential Computer, however.
What I find infuriating is that I gave them a couple days to give this information to me via email and they failed to do so. I had to call them. Michael said a chargeback to my VISA would occur within 24 hours.
Minutes after calling, I received email confirmation on them receiving the card back. The email says: “Another message will be sent to you from our RMA department once your item has been sent to you.” This is completely opposite what Michael told me. He said I would be receiving a refund.
My choosing of this vendor was based on consumer reviews from ResellerRatings. They seem to have a high enough score. This is puzzling. They do not seem competent in their business if any problems occur in products shipped. This is definitely my final dealing with this vendor as I cannot afford to trust them."

"This was my first order with Essential Computers - got a Shuttle XPC ST62KS, P4 2.8C and Seagate 80Gb HD. Placed the order at 4 p.m. Friday, got a call to verify my shipping address since the credit card company didn't have it listed. Once I took care of that, they shipped the order that evening, and I got it Monday - awesome!

"Ordered a few times from this merchant and liked their price and service until my last order. Ordered an epia motherboard and it arrived as DOA. Heat sink/fan fell off the CPU and no POST. Had to pay out of my own pocket to send back sth that was damaged and never worked once. It just added extra price to it and took extra time. The item was delivered back to them last week but I haven't heard anything yet. I will give a little extra time and am seriously considering to dispute the charge. Should have bought it from my local retailer Anixontech or Directron. My last order from essencompu.
After I complained here, I immediately got couple of emails from them the next day and was notified that my replacement board was sent. And they aslo upgraded it to standard overnight delivery. I inspected the motherboard immedaitely after I got it and there are two screws holding the heatsink/fan to the MB which the previous one does not have, very strange. My biggest complain so far is they got my board for a few days (according to the tracking number I had) and did nothing until I complained. But anyway they tried to solve it in a good way finally."

I ordered a video card on Saturday. First thing monday morning, I get an email saying they cannot ship to my address since it is not listed as a secondary address on my credit card. This is the first company to ever bring this to my attention. I've done biz at a number of different places, but essential computer is the first that actually concerned about fraud and I'm glad they brought the address issue to my attention.
Much props to them. Doing the right thing and alerting the customer ASAP. Rare to find that these days."
