"Long time boater here. I signed up for this service to get my boaters card, now required to boat in CA. Did not finish the training in the allotted time frame @ 90 days. I didn't even realize I had a time frame to finish an online course. I called customer service to see if I can get reinstated to finish up the course that I already paid for. The guy told me I was a crook for asking for something for free, a service I already paid for "lol". They took away my access and are requesting I pay again. Who is the real crook here??
Its not about the money for me its about service....
Update, Boater-Ed is 100% the crook here. There are company's offering free education and testing. All you have to do is pay for the card through your state....... What a joke

"As new owners of a pontoon boat, we decided that I should take a boating safety course to understand the ins and outs of driving a boat around the lake.
The way the process is set up is mostly well thought out, with two caveats, which I will detail later. The good thing is that you can take the course at your own pace, stop any time you want, and the course will start back up where you left off. I felt the price is worth it for what you get with the course.
Now for my two caveats: First, at least for Wisconsin residents, you have to obtain a Wisconsin DNR number to take the course. But, you don't find that out until you have paid the fee for the course, which is non-refundable. It would be great if you knew that ahead of time, as some people may not be interested in getting that DNR number.
Second, each portion of the test is timed, and no matter how quickly you can read, understand, and be ready to move on the next section, you must wait until the preset time is met before proceeding. For me, that meant that the time involved to complete the course was about doubled. I understand that the purpose of the timer is to prevent people from "pencil-whipping" the course, but that could still be prevented with shorter time intervals.

"Let's face it, boater safety is not the most exciting subject. However, Boat_Ed's mix of videos and animations made the subject a lot mor interesting than reading the material in a book. At my age (60), the practice tests were also a very nice feature.
One suggestion: for each safety section, list an approximate time required to learn that section so people know how much time they will need to allocate to complete that section."
"It was simple and easy to figure out and the way you learned how was good with a mix of words, pictures and videos. It helped you stay focused with the videos so you could take a break from reading. I thought it was good and would recommend it to anyone that wants to be certified on the water!"
