Scam operation run by a deranged idiot

"I paid $60 to this cretin (Herb York) to use his website (Astromart) and he deleted my account one night for no reason, then provided me with a cryptically and rudely worded explanation (if one could even call it such). My account had been registered for over 4 years and I had a 5-star rating as a seller. I conferred with other amateur astronomers who all said they had the same experience with Astromart. I don't find it at all surprising that his brick and mortar shop also has negative reviews. The fact that someone this deranged owns a gun store is worrying. Herb York should hand over ownership to someone with an IQ in the triple digits."

Lots of Experience With AstroMart and All of It Good

I cannot speak for any of them, but I will say that I have been an AstroMart member for almost 8 years now, and have always found my experiences here to be excellent. I have also personally visited with Herb York (owner of this site) via eMail, a couple of times, and never found him to be rude in any way; and actually very helpful in addressing a question I had.

I do know that they do govern their site very carefully, and as result, I have never heard of any scamming attempt being successful here. I now have a fair bit of astronomy equipment and as I love to buy, sell, and trade with others back and forth to achieve that ‘perfect setup’, I find that AstroMart is really a major part of that.

PLUS … I now have acquired several new astro-friends around the country that have offered standing invitations for me to come and visit if I am ever under their part of the sky.

Again… I cannot talk for anyone else, but the facts for me are that I now have almost 300 trades with AstroMart, and all of these experiences have been nothing less than great. The shared discoveries, the amateur photos, the forum posts and all the classified postings of hard to find equipment, have made my astro-hobby so very much richer. I personally am very glad to be part of the AM membership, so if I could rate them at more than Five Stars, I would.

Rip-Off - BUT SEE BELOW

"I am leaving this up but please know I no longer feel this way:

"I just paid $15 to get a membership in Astromart to see the auctions that weren't on the @Featured auctions@ page - I wanted also to see the prices of those featured items, since they were not listed in the teasers.

"Nothing. Nada. Rien. There are NO items listed at Astromart! They are not selling anything except useless memberships. They are doing nothing but ripping off anyone who might be interested in buying astronomical equipment. I wonder if they've gone bankrupt?"

I wrote the above review after trying to browse sales of astronomy equipment, without success. I now realise that this company is alive and well, and highly regarded in the astronomical community.

I still don't know what I did wrong, but considering Astromart's reputation, I am sure it must be on me. It should also be noted that when I complained, my credit card was immediately credited with the transaction amount.

Sorry guys, my abject apologies.

"Astromart has gone to far...I was bidding on a telescope and called them to ask about the shipping cost. They quoted me 300-350 dollars.. O.K. I continued in the auction and won..When I went to pay they told me shipping would be 450 dollars, a completely unreasonable amount. I explained I had called and was quoted 300-350 days before the auction ended and Herb York was completely unreasonable and rude.. He just with out cause or any discussion to come to a common ground band me from the site.
I was a member with outstanding feedback for over 15 years. This guy is something else.
Anyone dealing on Astromart will have a good view of it until you have to deal with Herb, his store and his mean nature. I believe the final price for the scope was to low for Herb.. He would not even give me a shipping quote if he had I might have payed it.

"Worst experience at Astromart.. my account disappeared without any trace. Paid $12.00 for it and after emailing them several times, I got the feeling they really did not want to:

1. Help me with my concerns
2. Reinstate my account
3. Refund my $12.00

Lousy Lousy Lousy! Bunch of criminals making the astronomy community look very bad.

"Horrible customer service, one of the worst I've ever seen/experienced. They have no customer service # you can contact them via telephone so your only option is their email which is ****@****. They respond back to you in a VERY RUDE manner which makes you think if they received any customer service training ever. They will not bother to assist you with any issues if you have any.

I paid $12.00 to subscribe to their account. It is a one time fee but after that you get an account which you can then use to buy/sell/trade astronomy products online. After using my account for nearly 10 months, my user account without any explanation vanished. I even tried the "Forgot Password" option to email me the new one but it seemed to not work. I emailed them several times asking them what happened to my account. My account was in excellent standing with 5 star ratings and 48 positive feedback. It took me a while to build this account with its reputation. Their first response was "You don't have one" .. Just like that, no explanation, no urge to try to help me figure out what is going on, NOTHING!.. I emailed them with proof (BoFA statement of $12.00) and also several email threads of how I purchased/sold items on their site. Still no luck. They responded back saying "You have no account, End of story, Goodbye!".. Basically put they were being very rude and could not care if their customer(s) lost their accounts.

I know I will never get my account back nor will I be refunded the $12.00 I paid for the account. This comes to show that they don't care about their customers because if they did, they would truly help them out.

Overall, horrible experience at astromart.com and big disappointment to the customer service staff as well as the owner Herb York.
