5/5

I have been in contact with a guy named Christian at Alienware regarding this issue. He ensured me that this matter was taken care of and that Alienware will be marekting and selling this policy correctly now. I actually called sales again to inquire about the upgarde policy at cost and was told that it's not at cost and that customers would receive a 10% discount on upgrades. Alienware had two choices: offer more of a discount or change the wording of the policy.
IMO, this puts the issue at rest. Kudos to Christian and the others at Alienware for taking care of this. I wasn't trying to cause trouble, just felt like the policy was misleading and wanted to call attention to it. I absolutely love my machine and the support I've received from this company has been outstanding.
I feel that it is necesary to update my experience with Alienware. My previous review stated that I am a very satisfied customer. I still am in terms of machine performance and reliablity.
The problem I do have is the fact that Alienware sells, markets, and advertises a policy of allowing existing Alienware customers to upgrade components (vid card, sound card etc..) at cost. 99.9% of consumers think cost means vendor cost and a discounted price. WRONG! I inquired about a new 9800 XT 256 vid card and was told the price for an existing customer is $520. When I asked customer service about the discounted price, I was told this included all discounts. Unbeleivable. I have posted in Alienware customer forums and have contacted customer service 3 times about this and have yet to receive any explanation. I even called Alienware Sales and asked about the upgrade policy and of course they say components are available at VENDOR cost and at a discounted price.
Fact is, this policy is not what it seems and is very false and deceptive advertising practices. Plan to pay more than retail price for components for alienware.
