USB Gear
Rating 2/10 1/5
modified review posted Apr-30-2007

USBGEAR.COM exhibits the same characteristics as another company I dealt with- they're simply a front for obtaining credit card numbers and using them illegally.

A month after your DAO (dead after ordering- when you order something, but hear & receive NOTHING from the merchant), you'll be skimming through your credit card statement finding charges from AOL, porn site payment companies, or companies that can't be even barely identified- "Strawberry Ltd." (my favorite), etc.

Your best bet is to find your product elsewhere (and not qualitycables.com or satacables.com either- they're all the same).

What I love about this company is that they're consistent! It makes it so much easier for the customer to avoid them! :) Thank you, all (and ResellerRatings.com) for your comments. Off to NewEgg.com...

STL PC Sales

SHïTpcSales needs to fold up tent, fire everyone, & start over. Bought RAM, selected "super cool heatsink", "finest quality", & "guaranteed compatibility" options... I even did the "what motherboard do you have" thing where you submit what MB you have... & still got bad RAM.

Called STL first thing Monday, phone rings off the hook. Tried throughout the week. I believe I was able to leave a message. Almost 5 months later, still can't get RMA# from these fools. STL tells Chase, "he's entitled to full refund- please fill out online RMA form". Did that. No RMA#. Nothing in the mail. Chase trying to contact someone at STL.

Good trick: welcome returns and refunds for bad merchandise, create online RMA form that makes customers feel company is hassle-free. Then- make RMA# impossible to receive: don't answer phone, don't call back, & make online RMA form non-functional.

All my posts for Knowledge Micro say the same damn thing basically- if you're buying Samsung optical drives, this place rocks! I can't remember the last time I bought anything else here.

I can't help it... look at what PortaTech posts on PriceWatch :

"Guaranteed In Stock - Guaranteed Accurate Advertisement - Guaranteed Delivery - Order Online today 24hrs @ www.portatech.com - Member of the BBB & commited to customer satisfaction"

Yah, they're a member alright... in the BBB database, right next to PortaTech, it says, "REVOKE MEMBERSHIP," guaranteed!

"Guaranteed Delivery"... sure... they'll ship it when they damn well please!

Ordered 2 Antec TRUE430's, best price on web. El-cheapo shipping- arrived at my house 3/4 days later- unreal. Thought it was a fluke. Ordered 2 more for other systems- same thing. Order showed up in less than a week for bargain basement shipping. I slapped myself for thinking it was a fluke and put "Matter Of Fax" on my rolo.

Recently bought Aspire case wigged out w/ UV this-n-that... *sharp* case. Pick up box off porch: sounds like a carton full of maracas there's so many broken peices inside. I'm tripn- almost $20 to ship and case alone is over $150 & I'm not even gonna use the included PS!! UGH... anyway- I call up Newegg, actually talk to a human, they open claim w/ shipping co & BAM- new case arrives a few days later (sukd I had to wait, but Newegg took care of me).

If you're not buying over $200 worth of stuff here, don't buy at all if you want your item in a timely manner. Abysmal's site says, "Please allow 2-15 business days for delivery." What??!! Up to 3 weeks to deliver something that lists "IN STOCK"??!! Hmmmmm... why is that? I'll tell you why- they sit on their cheeks for a week and a half before they ship the order!

Classic: Called Abysmal to verify that FireWire card was in stock. They say yay, I place the order on the 20th. On the 24th, Abysmal's site says order was shipped. On Monay, I try the USPS tracking# Abysmal gave to me- it doesn't register. I try Tuesday- nothing. Wednesday- nada. Thursday- no clue. Friday- hello??? Meanwhile, this customer of mine is waiting to do this suprise movie project for his wife and he's getting restless... running out of time. Finally- on Saturday, my tracking# pulls something up... my order just left CA on the 29th. Either CA has a bunch of doornails working the mail or Abysmal sclewed the pooch on getting this order out.

I'm so excited to be the first to blast this pathetic company. Every step of the online ordering process; these guys screw up! Placing order: prices didn't reflect what was on PriceWatch, but nowhere to put "notes". Advertised prices on site seem low, but SAH is an arm and a leg! [Example] 1 case costs $26.00. SAH for that case? $23.00. Processing order: they must have taken their sweet-a time because the order didn't ship for 2 1/2 weeks. "IN STOCK" means "BACKORDER" for these schmucks. Ship order: again- 3 weeks to get case and 2 other items. Receive order: 2 out of 3 items ain't bad... ordered Volcano 7, they ship a Volcano 9. When I called to complain that the fan was noisy and I should have been sent a Volcano 7, they said, "You should be happy, the Volcano 9 is a better fan." Whatever- "better" if I'm wearing earplugs.

I see Sofistic has a re-vamped site. It won't help. Made notes in my spread to never order from this site again.

Not only does Computer Braindead not know how to process an order, they ALSO do not know how to use a fax machine. This is unfortunate since all of their "free shipping" orders require the buyer to fax a waiver to them. What's the waiver say? To paraphrase, "We, Computer Braindead, authorize ourselves to ship out any ole piece of trash off our dusty shelves to you, the buyer. If the piece of trash does not work, you're out of luck. We have your money. We win."

Oh- did I mention? The waiver has to be sent TO YOU. You cannot download it. So- place your order, pitch a tent by the phone, setup campfire by the fax machine, and make repeated calls to Computer Braindead requesting they fax you the dang waiver. If you can sift through the broken English to make out a "we send it right now", wander over to the fax machine [campfire], turn the brat, and come back over to the phone and call them back because they didn't send it.

This company is so lame, I laugh outloud at my stupidity, trying for 2 days to get that fax. What's even funnier is, I cancelled the order and the following day, I got the fax. Dorks.

Placed order for CPU on March 15th, received order on April 14th. Enough said. This company sucks.

Check out CompuBust's comments below. That's their response to me receiving my order A WHOLE MONTH LATER. Would you order from a company like this?

Since my CompuBust CPU is just sitting around collecting dust (ordered same item from other company, cheaper, arrived BEFORE CompuBust's), I'll conduct an experiment: I'll have my Dad send that CPU from his home in Florida to my aunt in Seattle, WA. I'll get back to everyone on that.

In the meantime, I would like to clarify CompuBust's definition of "cheapskate." A cheapskate is NOT someone who researches all options for the best price for an item.

An example of a cheapskate is someone that would advertise a CPU shipped in 10-14 days at a price that isn't profitable enough- so they "scare" as many people as possible into paying ridiculous UPS/FedEx shipping to make margins more profitable. The people that don't get scared? Their orders ship out much later when CPU prices have fallen to a much more profitable level.

“You can also pay the extra price to buy directly from our website, or don't be a cheapskate and upgrade your shipping. What do you expect when getting a price that is nearly $20 cheaper than Newegg or Xtreme Gear? You want the cheapest price for shipping, you got it. Or go with the FedEx 3 day option, and you will see the great service we're known for.”

For CPU+fan+motherboard- this place is where to buy. Order repeatedly from XG waiting for them to fall on their faces (every online company does at one point or another) and they never do! FedEx shipping either free or cheap (bottom line still lower than other sites, even w/ crappier shipping).

Ordered here 2 more times. Still great. Because of their confirmation emails' subject/body content, XG customers have to bounce back and forth between 3 and 4 confirmation messages just to keep track of one order. They get that knocked out, this site is unbeatable.

Ordered an entire system, peice by peice from several dot.com's on a Sunday night. Came back to BeatPrice for another Antec TRUE430 cuz they had best price. While BeatPrice did actually get the price right when charging my credit card, it's noteworthy to note that the TRUE430 was the last item to reach my doorstep (10 days) out of all the other items I ordered.

9/4 Ordered Antec TRUE550 for best price. Holy crap!! Tracking# the next day? I didn't even pay for rush! Sweeeeeet!

Whatever you do, don't pay any attention to their online descriptions of their case fans for sale. What you order AIN'T what you gonna get. You're thinking, "Case fans? Big deal." Right?

I ordered 1 blue **UV** fan- I got 1 blue **LED** fan. No biggie. They screwed me on a UV fan.

Awhile later, for a couple new systems for customers, I ordered 4 blue **UV** fans (thinking, from past experience, I'd get 4 **LED** fans), I get 1 blue **LED** fan and 3 tri-lite **LED** fans. Okay, real nice. Now, I'm starting to get pi$$ed. Maybe the site descriptions are messed up??

Earlier this week, I ordered 4 blue **UV** fans /thinking/ I'll get 4 **LED** fans, and I get 4 blue **UV** fans.

You can't make this stuff up. Best part [for GameVE] is, it costs me more time and money to exchange for correct items. That's okay. A nice little dispute will get my money back and teach them a lesson. :)
