I have ordered 4 times from DealExtreme.
The first three times:
- Shipment arrived less than 3 weeks after ordering
- Tracking number provided, but not very useful (only shows "it was shipped")
- Merchandise arrived well packaged
- No need to contact customer service
Original rating: 5 stars.
Fourth order:
- 3 weeks passed, nothing arrived
- Contacted customer service, they asked me to wait one more week, then they would help
- They explained that for orders < US$15, there is no tracking number
- 4 weeks passed, asked for order cancellation
- A different representative sends a callous message saying to the effect of "order was shipped not too long ago, please wait patiently"
- I complain again
- Representative confirms my shipping address... then says they will try to track it down with "either the chinese or Hong Kong postal service". "Please wait longer".
- Merchandise arrived 7 weeks after it was shipped out. No post-mark date discernable on envelope, so I cannot determine how promptly it was actually sent out.
Absolutely inept customer service, engaged in delay tactics.
Adjusted rating: 2 stars.
Fifth order:
- Received notification of shipment two days after placing order.
- Surprisingly, order was sent out of California this time, not from ShangHai.
- Item arrived promptly, well protected in a padded envelope but without any retail packaging (I was not expecting any)
Adjusted rating: 3 stars.
Overall opinion: I would only buy low-priority merchandise (that I do not need in a hurry) from this merchant. They have shipped the correct items for all these orders, but shipping times have been hit and miss. I am not complaining about the delays in international shipments as much as the delay tactics that their customer service representatives engaged in when a shipment got stuck.
Looks like they are trying to improve the delivery process by stocking some items in the U.S.

“Unfortunately some things we do not have any control over. This item was on back order from the manufacturer, that is the reason we did notify the customer right away -as stated, and the customers account was NEVER charged.
The high volume that we do and sometimes the manufacturer not being perfectly accurate there are times that certain items are on back order, in these rare instances we do make every effort to relay that to the customer extremely quickly, and we will never charge a customers account with out notifying and verifying with the customer first.
We are sorry for the inconvenience though this model has now been discontinued by the manufacturer.”
