This has to do with the integrity of the company, not the price of the gear.
I was going to order a Nikon D700 on the website and had added this along with some other gear to my cart. I had to leave my computer for a while, and when I returned and was going to check out, the price had gone up on the D700. I emailed BH and they emailed back and agreed to honor the lower price for 30 days. I had to leave town on business and could not order for around 15 days. When I called BH as they had suggested, the sales associate could not honor the previous quote and he checked with his supervisor who confirmed this. I then asked for a discount off the selling price and they would not match another competitor's price so I reluctantly cancelled my order for all the gear.
I then ordered the D700 from another vendor, but also sent an email to BH explaining my disappointment at that interaction. I then received a phone call from Mr. Henry Posner a few days later apologizing for the mixup, and was told they would match the competitors price; I had already ordered from another vendor, however, since I needed the camera soon. He was very cordial and hoped we could do business again.
The day after the phone call, I received a nice email from Mr. Posner explaining that he had spoken to management and sales associates about my incident and that the company had taken steps to avoid another such problem.
I sent an email to Mr. Posner thanking him for his efforts, and asked if he would be willing to make an accomodation for a lens and background material purchase. He quickly responded and did indeed offer a reasonable discount and we did the deal.
My point is that BH did make an initial error when I tried to order the D700, but they stepped up and admitted their mistake and made amends. I have dealt with other companies in the past who were not willing to "invest" in customer service, but was very happy with Mr. Posner and BH; it was refreshing to deal with Mr. Posner and I will surely order from their store in the future!
