Liquidation.com
Rating 8/10 4/5
modified review posted Aug-18-2011

I have used liquidation.com several times and gotten pretty good deals, but, there are a few things to keep in mind:

1) most of the stuff they sell are store-returns and the items may not work, be damaged or have something wrong with them. Example: I bought about 10 safes (retail $50-75 each) from them for $100 (+tax). A great deal, but the safes were all locked with the keys inside!! For me this was not a problem as I was able to pick the locks of all ten safes in a day and the safes were all in very good shape.

2) In view of (1) stay away from items that you can't fix yourself. E.g., I avoid electronic items or computers unless you have expertise at repairing these.

3) Shipping charges will kill the deal, especially if you order a bit lot of itmes weighing 100s of pounds. I only use them because I am close enough to drive to one of their warehouses to pick up the item personnally. For the same reason I only buy items that are at the local warehouse.

4) Be very careful about getting into a bidding war-the item is probably not worth it. Following the bids for previous similar items can help you see what the final price will be.

Just a note of caution here: compuvest is NOT friendly to the idea of ordered a product using a credit card tied to your home address and then sending the product to your business address. This is even if the credit card co. has ALREADY been vetted and verified that the business address is approved and is legitimate . Rather, compuvest wants you the sign and fax to them a release form before the transaction will be completed. I find this very suspicious given that no other retailers have asked this of me.

So, if you plan to use a CC whose address does not match the shipping address then I would go elsewhere and avoid the hassle.

“Thank you for your rating.
We do ask our customers to send an Authorization (we even call sometimes) to confirm a different address other than billing to keep our customers safe from fraud and to verify the information is correct when entered. We have had much success reducing fraudulant charges/orders. We do understand that this is some times a hassle and very much appreciate the time taken to fax/email the authorization.
Our Sales Dept is also available to take orders~Monday thru Friday, 6:30 am to 5 pm PST (888-644-7017 Option 2). Ordering by telephone may eliminate the need for the authorization form.
Thank you

Panasonic SC-HT820V Home Theater
Run, don't walk from this company.
Here is why I will never do business with this ebay company again:
1) They misrepresent the content and quality of their goods. Here are the problems that I noted in my complaint to Essex Technology Group (ETG):
a. The remote was missing. But the "Actual Item Contents" listing indicated that the remote was included.
b. The main unit does not response to a remote borrowed from an identical panasonic system. Therefore the remote sensor did not work anyway.
c. The subwoofer had cosmetic damage on the front face and the main unit has major damage: a large dent over the DVC/CD portion of the unit. However the "Item Condition" listing said that that the item was "Like New. Cosmetically, it is Near-Mint."
d. The main unit did not power off when the power button is pushed-the only way to power off is to pull the plug out of the wall.
e. The input selector button does not work; so there is no way to toggle functions between DVD/CD, VCR, AM and FM
f. The disc selector did not work; so there is no way to use the 5-disc function.
g. The DVC/CD indicator did not light up.
h. The DVD/CD disc change button did not work.

2) They over-charge on shipping. They charged me $35 for shipping, yet it only cost me $22 to return the same box to them.

3) They will not reimburse you for shipping if you return a defective item.

4) They do not honor their own return policy. The item was purchased for $172.50 on 4/20/05 and was delivered to me on 4/26/05. On 4/29/05 I informed ETG that the item did not work and I wanted to return it. On 5/2/05 the ETG issued a RMA to return the item for a full refund. On 5/2/05 the item was shipped back to the ETG by DHL with confirmation of receipt by the ETG on 5/5/05. Since receiving the returned item the ETG has not refunded me and has made no attempt to contact me whatsoever. I inquired about my refund by email on 5/24/05 and have received no response. Subsequently I filed a complaint with paypal but they informed me that they will only take action if there is a problem with shipping, not defective goods. I have now filed a dispute through my credit card company. Next stop is the state attorney general's office of Tennessee.

Excellent Price for a projection TV with NO SHIPPING Charge! Correct product was shipped and had no defects. I would used them again.

Three things you need to know however:
1) They will charge you tax if you live in a state that has CompUSA Store (see http://www.thegoodguys.com/compusa.asp?refer=pcusa1nav)
2) Checking your shippment through con-way doesn't work if you just click on the link that goodguys.com sends you. Rather you have to: (a) go to http://www.con-wayair.com (b) under Fastrac select shipper reference number and then (c) enter the order number you got from goodguys.com
3) The free shipping is ground shipping so its going to take awhile (e.g about 10 days for me) before you get your product.

No problems! They promptly delivered the right memory for my laptop at a very good price. I would order from them again.

I can now comment on their customer service.
Turns out one of the two DIMM memories was defective. After some trouble shotting via email with support, I was give a RMA number. Plus they sent out the replacement product in advanace and at no charge! The replacement came in in few days and worked with no problem.

One follow-up note: I decided to file a complaint with the State Attorney General's Office of New York. If the last dozen or so reviewers would have done the same, maybe the Attorney General would have shut these BoZos down. For those that a sure to follow me, please take the time to file a complaint. The web address is: http://www.oag.state.ny.us/online_forms/complaint_alert.jsp

I feel compelled to make you aware of this company's bate and switch business practices. They advertise the lowest prices for cameras on the web. When I phoned in to confirm my order, they told me the camera was in stock and ready for shipping and they tried to sell me an expensive accessory kit. I declined. One week later when I called them to ask about the status of my order, I was told the camera was on back order for 12 weeks. Not ordering the kit apparently resulted in my original order being put on back order for 12 weeks! My experience apparently is not unique. I read, too late, the terrible reviews this company has received from multiple customers/attempted customers order multiple products. Most concerning is that some reviews report that they appear to being trying to charge a cancelation fee to credit cards, when customers cancel their order.
