“We're sorry you weren't happy with the shipping options to Canada, but let me explain why our practice is to only use Fedex and not the US Postal service.
First, USPS requires us to bring the package to the post office. Sending employees in personal vehicles to do that and waiting on line there is just not part of our workflow. Fedex picks up packages from our office.
Second, USPS does not offer tracking and insurance at the rate you describe, and we have found through experience that tracking and insurance are necessary when sending product to customers. We're glad you got your displays shipped cheaply, but if they were lost or damaged in transit and you had no tracking or insurance, there would be nothing to do about it and you'd be really unhappy.
Last, the amount we charge for shipping is the actual amount calculated by Fedex ShipManager® software. It is based on the weight of the package and the delivery address. We do not add any handling or other fees.
Unfortunately, it is just more expensive to send a 1lb package to Canada by "Fedex International Priority" than it is to send to California by "Fedex Ground" ($45 vs $6). However, because tracking and insurance are truly necessary services, the impracticality bringing a large volume of packages from our office to the post office, and the reliability of Fedex, we just do not ship with USPS even though they may have a cheaper rate in particular instances. The quality of service is just not the same.
