RMA in process right now. So far-whoa, big surprise-very poor customer service. I was initially told their policy on refurbished products (albeit defective) was NO returns/ exchanges. I pushed and fought, mentioning a possible chargeback, to the point where they said I could return for a refund IF I return with all the packaging. No problem. Then I found out that the refund they proposed me with was about 5/6 of the total amount on a $600+ order! So I filed a case with Paypal. Newegg has yet to return my courtesy email informing them of the case or respond to it on the PP case, but so far:
1- I was initially told Newegg doesn't refund or exchange and had to argue my way to my RMA
2- My RMA refund amount was significantly lower than what I should receive
A non-working product is not allowed to be listed as anything other than "for parts" per Paypal policy so the refund/exchange should have been no problem. This coupled with the significantly lower refund price suggest suspect practices. Be aware when purchasing from them, and I, personally, am also suspicious of half of the ratings being 5/5 while the other half are 1 and 2/5. I'll keep up with this RMA on updates. Bottom line, use Paypal-overall best customer service and buyer protection.
So far, we are in a Paypal dispute and were offered a $100 discount towards a future purchase. An ounce of prevention (shipping quality products, accepting returns, etc) is worth a pound of cure. I'll post any updates on the claim outcome and fulfillment of the $100 promise.
