Found a great air/hotel/rental car package deal. What made the deal so great was the rental car price, a convertible for a steal, and not available when booking separately. I entered my credit card information and clicked 'submit'.
The next page said something like 'sorry, we were unable to book your rental car, but we've gone ahead and charged your credit card for the airfare and hotel'. Well, thanks for the bait-and-switch.
I called customer service. The representative was courteous. After some failed attempts to add the rental car, I asked that my order be canceled. 'Ok', says the rep, 'your cancellation fee will be $3xx.xx' (over $300).
To make a long story short, the rep claimed it was the airline and hotel charging the cancellation fees, not Travelocity. I was having none of it. It was Travelocity who offered the package deal, but didn't deliver. Eventually, I was transferred to another department, where my booking was canceled without any fee.
Total time on telephone: Over 1 hour.
Lesson learned: Don't book package deals, book individual components only.
