There are very few microcenters, so having just moved to the columbus area and having to resort to Best Buy for a "decent" electronics section for all my adult life, walking into microcenter was like paradise. I don't really have a problem with Best Buy customer service, just thier selection is not meant for your average Comp Sci major.
I should have come here first and read the reviews before stepping foot in the place.
My wife and I decided to convert to macs. We had enough in our budget for one good mac and one less expensive system. I bought her a brand new macbook pro, no problems with that, and a refurb macbook listed on the site as a core 2 duo with 2 gb of ram. There was 4 in stock I picked one up and brought it home all good so far.
Got it home, it only has one gb of ram installed and it's a core duo, not a core 2 duo. If you know about macs, core duo's are obsolete, (wont even run lion) core 2 duo will still run all current os's and beyond. BIG ASS DIFFERENCE
I take it in, their first suggestion after explaing both the box and the website says it's supposed to have 2gb of ram is
wait for it.. wait for it..
I COULD BUY SOME RAM AND INSTALL IT!!!
After wrangling with rude customer service reps for an hour, they finally install the ram free of charge, no points for that, as that's what they should have done in the first place no questions asked.
The core duo part, now that's a tough one. I told them upfront returning it wasn't an option, (i wanted the computer I just wanted the problem(s) fixed) even though they kept pushing me to do so. I'm well aware they can't solder a new processer on and it being a refurb limited stock. they can't produce the product advertised magically. They wouldn't give a me a credit or any compensation for it. I don't know what the rules are on false advertising, but they fucked up, i don't care if it was corporate, or a drunk intern, they advertised a product. That product was not in the box. They needed to make it right, even a token credit, something. The manager refused to do anything at all other then put the ram in, which being the thing they could fix, like i say was a given.
I just spend thousands of dollars with your company, and you couldn't admit you messed up and at least try to make it right. I willl be writing to corporate to see if my they will fix the issue.
I'm not the customer you want to lose. Comp sci major, life long techie and gamer with a very, very, very long memory for companies screwing me over. I will spend the rest of my life dealing with technology. I will update this if they fix it and change my rating untill now, stay away from this place.
