In February 2011 I purchased a $2700 macbook pro 17' model with applecare. When I had an OS issue in august, apple notified me that the computer was originally registered in October 2010, and when I couldn't reinstall Snow Leopard which it came with, I looked closely at the wrapped dvd's that the computer came with. The OS disc was scratched and damaged beyond any cd or dvd I have ever owned. I was stunned. It became when I tried to reinstall Iphoto, they had actually shipped me an applications dvd that had Iphoto 6 on it. Iphoto was originally released in 2006, so it appeared that this computer was returned to them, minus the applications dvd. They found a dvd that said macbook pro 17" on it and packed it up and shipped it to me. I spent a total of about 2 days, with tech support going to an apple store, talking with tech support several times and I have not been able to return it to its oem state yet. I will never ever buy from this online and brick and mortar store. They couldn't explain the registration of this product 5 months prior to me buying it, nor could they explain the totally damaged, unplayable install disc and a 5 year old Iphoto suite that was also very damaged. Strangely, Apple immediately updated my apple care warranty to match the date that I purchased it so I don't know if they were involved in this charade. When I called the store back today, they simply said problem solved, they had called apple, end of story.
It's not the end of the story, I haven't received replacement install dvd's yet, nor am I convinced that I should have had to pay new retail pricing for what was clearly a used computer. Pre registered with damaged and wrong discs in the box is the smoking gun.
I feel as though I have been cheated and taken advantage of, more to come
“B&H Photo regrets your dissatisfaction. I note you discussed this with our customer service staff. They informed you that Apple pre-registers all their computers when they're shipped to retailers, as your was during Oct 2010. Your computer's serial number is SC02DG1N#####. It was shipped to you brand new, exactly as we received it from our supplier. It was not used or a demo or refurb and was not previously sold and returned.
I feel obliged to note you received this on 2/8/11 and were apparently entirely satisfied with it until Aug 30th. As I said, we regret your dissatisfaction but have done nothing to deserve your criticism.
