Purchased a computer part from Buy.com using a $10 Off coupon. The item featured Free Shipping. For over a week “Sent to Warehouse” showed in the order status, so I contacted Buy.com to cancel my order. Two days later they cancelled ONLY the $10 Off coupon, and shipped the item. I emailed them regarding this and they promised to investigate.
After another week, and many emails from me, Buy.com refused to honor the $10 coupon. They said that the Free Shipping was a “Special Promotion”, which could not be used in conjunction with any coupons. It is conspicuous that their coupons do not mention, “Cannot be used with Free Shipping”. Even shadier is the fact that the Free Shipping terms page makes no mention of this either. But what really stands out, and shows their true colors, is the fact that their system will actually allow the coupon to be applied in the first place with Free Shipping. Why allow it in the first place?
Buy.com does this so that they can then remove the coupon at the last minute, and you pay full price. An honest seller would not remove a coupon after 9 days (as they did to me), just as the item ships.
They use classic bait and switch to sucker customers in with low prices, and then use whatever dishonest means available to trick their customers out of extra money. AVOID IF POSSIBLE, OR USE EXTREME CAUTION WITH BUY.COM.
