I ordered new iPad from Adorama. The supply and demand on new iPad is tight after the initial release. But that is not the problem, as I am willing to wait. The problem is that during the 1 month while waiting for the product, 4 different Adorama reps told me that they have the item in stock and is ready to ship. Each time, there was no item in stock and nothing is shipped. One rep guaranteed that the item will ship that day. Another rep told me that Adorama doesn't lie. It is funny, I never accused anyone of lying. The rep is the one who brought it up. So I think they are probably accused of that, so they are very defensive.
My take: either Adorama has gone down hill and is now one of those bait-and-switch online stores, or their computer system is worth crap and their reps really have no clue what is in stock. In any case, I will never purchase from Adorama again. The sad thing is that I doubt they make much money on iPad. But they are going to lose future business from a photography enthusiast.
After 28 days of waiting, I finally canceled my order. One positive is that Adorama never charged my CC.
*Update (2 days after initial review): Adorama emailed me (and also followed up with phone call). The explanation was due to incorrect product code. Because I changed my order from Black to White unit, which took place 2 days after my original order, their system was not showing the right product. They had the Black in stock, but not the White. OK, that explains why customer rep always showing the unit in stock. But when they try to ship, someone caught it and didn't ship out a Black unit. At that point, Adorama have corrected the product code in the system.
Adorama did offer to put me onto the top of wait list for the White unit. Not needed. On the same day I canceled from Adorama, I ordered with B&H, who shipped the iPad on same day.
Given that Adorama did follow-up and tried to correct the situation, I modified my rating from 1 to 2 stars. But I still think twice from ordering from them again, with the choices I have elsewhere (Amazon, B&H, etc.).
