“I have ordered from this company two SATA/USB adapters with own power supply for my DVD drive and burner. When they arrived I opened the first box, the description/manual leaflet was for another item and seemed outdated but the cables were straight forward. I connected my first drive, booted my PC, my drive was not found. I tried if the cables are loose - suddenly a bright spark/flash in my drive, poff sound and my PC switched off.
I pulled the plug immediately, removed the drive USB to my PC and tried rebooting my PC. It was dead, would not react to the power button. I've spent several days testing each component of my PC, the motherboard and drive are both destroyed. I contacted David Gao/cubeternet by mail which first did not reply but when I send another email the next day threatening with repercussions I got a reply almost instantaneously. In the reply cubeternet ignored the damage I reported and my claim for compensation and refund and wrote I can get a replacement of the adapters and their adapter can not cause something like this, it would be impossible for USB to carry more than 5V. Which is technical nonsense, I've asked a senior hardware engineer who confirmed that. A few back and forth mails with cubeternet, I offered they could pay a bit more than half of what the motherboard was worth new and would accept the cheapest drive from newegg as replacement plus refund for the adapters. They replied with more stalling and technical nonsense including suggesting the fault lies with my motherboard company (Gigabyte, definitely not) or my electric utility supplier (I run my hardware on a surge protector ...). And I could send the adapter back and if they find any problem with it they would refund me for this one.
All in all very bad business practice, I will never buy from the again, have filled a complained with the Federal Trade Commission and looking into more measures.”
