This review deals with eCost's eBay operation. I took a chance and purchased a refurbished USB wireless adapter for a promotional price. I wasn't expecting much for the money--if it worked great, if not, I was only out a few dollars. The purchase process was simple, and the item was shipped within one business day. I take issue with them using UPS "Mail Innovations" as it's an absolutely horrific shipping service (take the worst of UPS and the Post Office and put them together), but it was free and the item arrived within the specified time frame. The card works great, and I'm satisfied with the transaction. While I won't actively use eCost for regular purchases, I'll certainly give them a look if they're running promotions similar to the one described here.

After several days of Internet research, I chose to purchase an uninterruptible power supply system from Provantage. Item cost plus shipping was actually less than other online retailers that offered free shipping. Order processing was quick and painless, with the real-time inventory tracking system being a nice value add. A couple negatives, though, might have me thinking twice about ordering from this store again. First, the item was not packaged very well. It was put in an obviously recycled box. The only packing material was some flimsy paper, which I believe was inadequate for shipping a 30+ pound battery. To rub salt into the wound, my item was shipped FedEx, a carrier with which I have had many, many problems. FedEx completely manhandled the box to where there was a large dent that also slightly damaged the product box. Fortunately, the battery itself was packaged well and was seemingly unharmed. Provantage uses both FedEx and UPS, but I was not given the option of which carrier to use, unlike other online stores. As a result of all of this, I will only consider Provantage again if they're significantly cheaper than the competition and if the item I need is not susceptible to problems caused by shipping.

Placed an order for an iPod Touch case with this merchant. The item was received in good condition. It seems, however, this company operates as a drop-shipper, similar to Buy.com. They don't actually stock and ship products themselves. HandHeldItems' Web site says they're based in Southern California, but my case was shipped directly from the manufacturer, who is based in Tampa, Florida (postmark on the shipping box confirms this). Further, the case I ended up buying would have been less expensive had I purchased it directly from the manufacturer. In the end, I'm very satisfied with the product and pretty unsatisfied with the reseller. I would not shop at this store again.

Order for a simple, $5 memory card was processed and shipped quickly. The item arrived in good condition and worked perfectly as a memory expansion for my Nintendo Wii console. The only minor bother is that what Supermediastore describes as "Free Ground" shipping is not actually UPS or FedEx, but rather USPS. I would rather they simply call it "free shipping" or "free saver shipping" rather than using the term "ground." This merchant is not the only one that does this, but it's a bit misleading. That said, I would still shop here.

Ordered a spindle of blank DVDs. The order was placed and processed, but it was not until two days later, and one day before the package arrived, that I even received a shipment notification e-mail with tracking number. Meritline's pricing isn't even that great, even with free shipping on many items. I would probably only consider ordering from them again if they were the only store to offer what I need.

Edit in response to merchant reply:
My complaint had nothing to do with the shipment of my order being delayed, but rather the timing with which the shipment notification e-mail was received. It should be sent the day the item leaves your warehouse, not two days after.

I ordered a Stepmania-compatible dance pad from Play-Asia. The item took about 2 weeks to receive using the least expensive shipping method. The shipping cost was a bit high, but the item was packaged well, and its quality was better than I expected. Very happy overall with the transaction and look forward to ordering again.

I typically only shop with DDD when they're offering 20% off coupon codes, which makes their prices more competitive against other online retailers. When they have items in stock, they're generally good about making sure they ship within 48 hours of order placement. With their free (media mail) shipping, it still takes at least 5-7 business days to get to me in spite of the fact that I live 20 minutes from their warehouse. Their inventory control isn't the greatest, though, as several times I've placed orders for items listed as in stock only to check a couple days later to find them backordered. This happened with my most recent order. Fortunately, they did end up shipping all 3 items I ordered (in 3 separate shipments) and I should have them in time for Christmas. I would only recommend DDD if you can get a discount coupon or if their price is significantly cheaper than other online or retail merchants.

I had ordered a shield for my MacBook Pro from this company on Oct. 12. They did not ship the product until Nov. 6. Incidentally, I had filed a dispute with PayPal about 2 days earlier so that must have motivated them. Before filing the dispute, I had sent an e-mail inquiry about my order status. It took them 3 days to send back a vaguely worded response that didn't actually give a confirmation as to whether or not the product had actually shipped. The shield finally arrived in good condition, but based on this experience I won't be ordering from this company again.

I purchased an LCD monitor through Staples.com. The expected ship time was 3-5 business days, but it was sent within 36 hours of the time the order was placed. The item arrived within 2 business days, however, I had to return it. I called the customer service line and was connected immediately to a friendly, English-speaking representative who said I could return the monitor to any Staples retail store. I did and received a full refund without any hassle. The whole experience has convinced me to do all my office-supply shopping at Staples from now on.

Placed an order through Google checkout for a Logitech wireless mouse. When I received the shipping confirmation e-mail, I was disappointed to see that the "ground shipping" option was USPS, rather than UPS. That disappointment was tempered by the fact that the item was in fact shipped Priority Mail, as opposed to first class or parcel post. That made me feel somewhat better about paying the somewhat steep $8.99 shipping fee. The mouse works great, and I would consider shopping at Comp-U-Plus again as long as my total cost, including shipping, ended up being less than another online merchant. As a suggestion to Comp-U-Plus, you might want to consider changing the description of ground shipping to standard, as a lot of people will think that their orders will be sent via FedEx or UPS. Perhaps they could change it to "standard" or "saver."

With low prices, fast shipping, and products of good quality, there is no reason at all to purchase cables at a brick and mortar store. Ever. Monoprice is an outstanding online retailer.

There's nothing new I can say here that hasn't been said already. With the patient help of Ron Baird, I was able to configure the notebook I needed for both portability and moderate gaming. My laptop was built and shipped sooner than I expected. All of this was done for a great price with the personal attention one would expect when buying a luxury car. It doesn't get any better than this.

Ordered a 2 GB kit of RAM from Monarch. Order processing, shipment and receipt of the memory was just fine, and the price was good. However, there was an issue with the memory causing my system to be unstable. This is where it gets complicated.

I tried their e-mail support and actually did receive a response from someone. Doing the standard test rigamarole, we communicated back and forth for a day. Then I stopped hearing from them. Ultimately I tried their online form for an RMA request. This led to someone else calling me. After being on the phone for 40 minutes, they finall granted an RMA and would credit me back my money.

To top it all off, I get an e-mail this afternoon as a response to the one I sent to their support line saying that they wouldn't be able to refund my money but give me a store credit. I'm going to respond and say that the other technician said a refund back to my card would be coming. Apparently the right hand there doesn't know what the left is doing.

And naturally, after I placed the order, I looked a little more deeply at their return policy on memory and it's quite Draconian. Based on this and my experience in trying to get this problem resolved, I won't be ordering from them again. I'm going to be monitoring my credit card very closely to see if the credit gets applied.

One of the few places where I could find the small, 3.5 gram tube of Arctic Silver 5 thermal compound. The price was reasonable, and shipping costs were right in line with what the USPS charges. The compound shipped the same day I ordered, and I received it in 2 days. Doesn't get any better than that!
