According to email I received from www.ridegear.com, the company went bankrupt and the name was acquired by Cruiser Customizing around March 2009. I had a warranty return for a CorTech Sport tail bag purchased at www.ridegear.com. They refused to handle the return. I am trying to have the manufacturer (CorTech/Tourmaster) handle the return directly but that is not going so well either and will be the subject of another review on the tailbag which has a poorly design zipper.
Apparently in the motorcycle industry, warranty returns are typically handled by dealers, not the manufacturer. In any case, I received an email from the new folks at www.ridegear.com which basically says they take no responsibility for the return since I purchased it from the "old" www.ridegear.com. Seems like something is a little off with this picture.
The www.ridegear.com website does not make it clear that there has been a change in ownership and that they take no responsibility for refunds or returns for items purchased from the "old" www.ridegear.com. You would think they would want to proudly advertise that they bought the old ridegear out of bankruptcy. Instead they seem to be keeping it quiet. Google "ridegear bankruptcy" and you will see very little. There is an announcement on the Cruiser Customizing website if you look for it.
