DrillSpot
Rating 10/10 5/5
modified review posted Oct-04-2010

The items I was buying are so cheap that the price of shipping is very important. Drillspot had a decent shipping price that didn't go up (at least not much) for buying multiple small items, so it worked out to being a good deal for me. Delivery time and packaging were reasonable.

Since the item was not expensive and I don't need it urgently, I ordered from this company without checking its ratings. This was a mistake, but because I don't need it soon, it may not be a big mistake. When I placed my order I received an order confirmation e-mail, but I have received no e-mail since. Their "Order Tracking" page is just a receipt. Has it shipped? Will it ever ship? Who knows? I finally got through on the phone and the agent I spoke with was polite and helpful. He says the item should ship on Monday and explained that they are still behind from the holidays. If they're still catching up on 1/5, a lot of people must have gotten very late gifts. He offered to upgrade my shipping slightly, but I admitted that I didn't really care and just wanted to know that the item was on the way. He told me that I will receive an e-mail when the item ships. We'll see. I'll try to update this when I receive my item.

Steve the cable guy rocks. His prices are great and his shipping charges are low. I think my order was shipped the same day I placed it and it arrived two days later. The site has additional information about network cabling dos and don'ts and is easy to navigate. The product is good and the prices are incredibly low. Highly recommended.

I ordered several parts for a new computer I was building, but my credit card company decided the charges must be fraudulent and put a hold on my card without bothering to notify me. By the time I figured out that the idiots from my credit card company were blocking the charge and told them to approve the charge apparently my CPU had gone out of stock. Newegg sent me an e-mail telling me they weren't shipping the CPU, but I didn't see the e-mail for some reason (my bad). When I noticed that Newegg wasn't shipping, I checked and saw the item was in stock and I called to find out what was going on. We figured out that it was probably in stock when I ordered, out of stock when my credit card company straightened out its act and back in stock now. I griped that they hadn't notified me about the out of stock (I was wrong about this) and the rep told me to go ahead and order it with faster shipment and he'd credit me for the additional shipping cost. I got my CPU at least as early as I would have otherwise and didn't pay extra. The problem was my credit card company's fault and I'm sure the customer service rep knew that I was wrong about not having received notice of the out of stock, but Newegg say an unhappy customer and fixed the problem. That's why they get my repeat business.

Beach Camera

Beach shipped the camera quickly and at a good price. I am satisfied.

I had previously placed a highly negative review based on receiving a Panasonic cordless phone that was in differnt packaging from that used in other Panasonic products I have ordered. Based on bad experiences with other New York and New Jersey-based camera stores, I jumped to the conclusion that the phone was a return or refurbished merchandise. I just got a call from one of their reps and am informed that Panasonic does quality checking in the U.S. after shipment here and removes the phones from their packaging. I don't have any way of knowing Panasonic's internal practices, but the rep seemed genuine and professional and - based in part on the record of other good reviews for this store - I am convinced that he was right and that I was mistaken in my original review for which I apologize.

Other reviews show this is a good store, my experience was not good. Ordered on 12/18, got notice to verify shipping address with credit card company 12/19, did so 12/19, confirmation that oorder was being processed 12/20, no word on shipment, sent e-mail 12/21 asking if they had any plans to ever ship product 12/21, no response, checked status again and discovered product was now listed as out of stock 12/22, called to cancel order. Rep was rude, interrupted me repeatedly and told me that I had to call another number (not the one on my order status page), refused to give her name and hung up on me when I insisted on getting her name so that I could report her to her supervisor. Next rep cancelled order and was courteous.

I'm not happy that they sold out their inventory on the item I ordered while my order was on hold for shipping address verification. It seems that they could have kept one item of stock on hold for a couple of days while they resolved the shipping issue. They may also need to work on the trainig of their phone reps. I have shopped there before without troulbe and may still shop there again though. My experience seems to be unusal.

Incredibly rude and accept no responsibility for shipping defective merchandise. I ordered 100 48x CDR, got stuff that Nero says is only good for 24x. I called to complain and was told "that's impossible". I reacted with annoyance (but not abusively) that it was right on my screen in front of me, that cheap CDRs failing to record at advertised speed is hardly uncommon and that I didn't appreciate being told that what was right in front of my face isn't true. The guy yelled at me, told me to send it back with a receipt and hung up on me. When I called back and told him that it isn't polite to hang up on customers, he bitched about my attitude and told me that I could send them back, but I'd have to pay for shipping both ways of a product I never ordered (I ordered 48x, not 24x). Frustrated, I figured it was my turn to hang up on him. He then called back to hang up on me again. Very professional way to run a business, don't you think?

They also do business as MemoryMedia, which is the name under which they ripped me off. Advertised 48x CD-R media in a cake box, shipped 16x without packaging. I insisted that they send me a prepaid UPS shipping label since I am not responsible for their fraud. So far, no label, no RMA, no refund, no nothing.

I am going to sue them in small claims court. More trouble than it's worth for me, but I tired of being ripped off by assholes like this and want to teach them a lesson.

I'm writing to provide a relatively positive review to say that my experience was better than most of those listed here, even though it was far from perfect. Maybe they're cleaning up their act.

Having previously ordered from NY-based camera stores where the product mysteriously becomes "out of stock" once you decline to order accessories at twice retail price, I called to confirm availability before I ordered my Canon Powershot S400 on 5/30 and then checked here (oops, shoulda done that first). After reading the negative reviews and based on my similar experiences with other stores, I called again to see when they would ship and was told Monday 6/2. I got the expected call to flog unwaned accessories on 6/1 and declined (actually the prices weren't as bad as some stores that advertise cheap camaeras and make their money on overpriced accessories). On 6/2 they said would ship 6/3. That wasn't what they said on 5/30, but it wasn't unreasonable, so I didn't bitch. On 6/3 they said it would ship that day. It didn't. On 6/4 I was pissed and got a name and a "promise" that it would ship that day. The guy said "all the orders" were going out, which doesn't make it sound like they bother to ship every day. My order shipped that day by 2-day air and not the 3-day air that I'd paid for. Arrived fine, works fine.

This process would be horrible for computer parts or any other consumer electronics, but is actually pretty good for camera stores where 90% of the low-priced merchants are running bait and switch scams.

They advertised "CD-R 50pack 80 min 730mb 48X silver top in cake box" on Price Watch. They shipped 50 shrink wrapped CD-Rs, no cake box, no label. I was suspicious because there was no label, so I asked if they were really 48x. No response. I unwrapped and tried one. It's a 16x. If I'd wanted 16x, I would have paid less. This is outright FRAUD.

Also, they added $1 for residential delivery, while that's not inherently unreasonable, I believe it violates Price Watch's rules.
