Survivor Inc
modified review posted Feb-03-2004

Ordered a 256 meg 144-pin notebook SODIMM but never received it, though the payment was confirmed by PayPal. PayPal says the seller is at fault but will not co-operate, and there is nothing they can do since he has no funds on deposit and is blocked from receiving more.

Survivor Inc (John Starkey )will not respond to emails (survivor99@cableone.net, survivor99@cox.net), nor emails sent through his web site (http://survivor99.zoovy.com/).

The hosts at Zoovy will not respond to my inquiries (Looking into that some more).

Figured it was time to warn my fellow online shoppers about this guy.

Though I've only ordered items a few times, this is a graet place to check for PC/PCMCIA cards and accessories.

I've serviced several notebooks with damaged PCMCIA cards and/or missing dongles (Do you know where your dongles are?), and have been able to replace some odd parts at PeakSource.

They're in my Notebook Parts bookmarks as a regular resource now.

Bought a D-Link 16-port 10/100 Switching Hub. The price was the lowest I could locate for ths item in the time frame allowed. It was brand new, well packed, and quickly delivered.

XP Passport is now in my bookmarks as one of the preferred places to check for networking gear!

As an Educational Computer Consultant and Hardware Tech I get to buy lots of things online with other people's money. One of the places I regularly visit is PC Liquidator. They have some kinks, but do offer bargains, especially if you subscribe to their mailing list and have access to their special sales.

This order is typical of around 100 or so since 1999. I keep coming back so they can't be all that bad. Prices can be quite low, especially for bulk items such as mice & pads, cables, low tech speakers, etc.. The regular sales on refurb printers and network gear keep my attention.

Shipping can be high, so you have to be careful, but to their credit the shipping costs are recalculated with each item added to the shopping cart. That allows you to find the "sweet spot" before that one more item bumps the charges up a notch or two.

An odd thing has happened several times. A small item or two have been missing from the orders. I email and they send it right away at their own expense, and that's fine. I'd prefer to have someone pack more carefully, though.

Last gripe - They use mixed popcorn packing that has obviously made a few trips. I believe in recycling, that's fine. But, many items are not plastic wrapped, so the little popcorns get into every crack. You can get a bargain used printer for 10 bucks, but you may spend an hour picking all the little, clinging foam buggers out of it!

Ordered 2 Dell 75UYF refurbished batteries for Latitude CPx notebooks. They shipped the same day & were well packed, each in its own padded box. The batteries looked brand new & tested perfect. They came with came with a 1 year warranty. Pacific Battery Systems provided all that at about half the cost of a new battery.

They're now on top of my list of places to look for notebok batteries.

I buy literally hundreds of computer hardware & software items online each year. I try always to search for low prices & good quality for my clients. Kahlon is in my vendors bookmarks under RAM since that's been the extent of purchases from them.

I was a little shocked to see some low ratings here. I've only made 6 purchases from them in the last year, but never had a problem. This recent order is typical: Needed 512 megs of EDO ECC DIMM (4x128) for an HP NetServer LH Pro retired from business service and reemployed as a modest media server in a school. Kahlon had this RAM at by far the lowest price (I looked pretty hard), and delivered it promptly. I didn't hesitate to order despite the lowball price (shipping is a bit high) because they had come through for me 5 times in a row. Please remember though - all I've ever ordered is RAM, and I always do my homework so I'm pretty certain I'm ordering stuff that will work. We're at 6 in a row positive, so I'm leaving them in my bookmarks even in view of some negative experiences others have reported.

As an Educational Computer Consultant and hardware tech I buy lots of gear online. Specific item + Price + Shipping + reputation leads me to most vendors. Early last year TigerDirect.com began slipping in there as the best place at the time to get a specific item.

This purchase is typical. The online ordering is quick and easy with very rapid processing & shipping. This site is now on my list of places to check regularly for things such as scanners, printers & displays. So far I'm giving them an "A" grade!

Have ordered from their site only 6 or 7 times since 2002. Nice prices - some real bargains! I'm attracted to their site because they have items I need at those good prices. Shipping is fast, but a bit pricey. Returning defective items is a slow and difficult process, however. I buy MANY items from other online resellers who get my business because they QUICKLY replace DOA's and warranteed items. SurplusComputers.com does not.

I constantly search for the best prices on components to save my clients money. At the same time I want reliable quality and reasonable shipping costs/times. With this order Upgrade Center came through for me on all counts. I'm coming back!
