Objective: Ordered 3 light fixtures. Credit card immediately charged. No items delivered for 2 weeks. I left a message on the website about status update. Apparently, the "in stock" item was not in stock and will not be until about 2 months from now.

I asked about refunding my credit card until the item ships: "no sir, we cannot do that. you will need to cancel the order and re-order." However, I notice the price went up $30 on each item now and no provision was offered for a price adjustment if I re-ordered.

Subjective:
I believe it is deceptive to bill a credit card immediately and not ship the item.

1000bulbs.com had the overall lowest price on LED down lighting from Cree. My order was for 53 LR6-DR1000 can lights. The total was over 5K. Shipping was very high at about $300 when other sites are free at this level of purchase. However the overall price for the lights after a 10% off coupon (with shipping) was $104.72. The next lowest price I could find anywhere was $117.

The order was placed on May 13 and delivered June 5. I would have liked an update on shipping status during that time. The price and shipping speed exceeded my expectations since I realized that no one would stock 53 of these lights and that there would be some delay.

Sign up with them and they will send a 10% off coupon.

I placed three orders in May 2012. The first order was 8 outdoor light fixtures from Maxim Lighting for $1,127.00. After 3 days, I had tracking information from UPS and decided to buy some additional fixtures from the site. The second and third orders were for indoor light fixtures for $476.05 and $182.95 respectively.


After 3 business days, I had UPS tracking information for each order. Each order was received quickly and in perfect shape. The cost savings was surprising. It was over 20% over Amazon.com and at least 10% over the next closest web store.

This site is completely legit. The website was a little difficult to navigate at times and some of the product images didn't load. However, there are some very good deals and shipping was prompt and the products were delivered safely. 5 stars!

I received my order 1 month, 2 days after I placed my order. It was less expensive than I could buy it elsewhere at the time by about 15-20%.

Bowery lights had a ceiling fan on their website. It was sold at a national chain. The web page for the fan had a button that said, "best price". This required I enter my email. The price I received was about 15% less than the national chain. Also, there was no tax.

I purchased the fan on April 22, 2012. I heard nothing for several weeks. On May 16, I sent an email inquiry about my order. On May 23 I received a response: "Your order is shipping this week, it was backordered." I received my order on May 25, 2012.

If you are not in hurry, bowerylights.com may be a reasonable option. I did eventually get my order and I did save a few bucks. I would have liked a shipping update before 3 weeks later. If the item was "backordered", this would have been good information to communicate to the customer at the time of the order. I also would have liked a response to my email inquiry faster than 1 week.

I placed an order for 7 vanity lights on 5/20/12. Six were delivered on 5/24/12. The seventh was entered into FedEx's tracking system but was not ever turned over to FedEx. I called and spoke to customer service on 5/25/12. They were helpful and told me that a replacement FedEx tracking number would be forthcoming.

Overall, I am pleased with the experience. The prices were very competitive. The delivery time for 6 of the 7 items I purchased exceeded my expectations. The products arrived well-packed and intact.

I was slightly concerned with the ratings on this website but the experience I had was not consistent with those that left ratings before I did. I think that most people are more inclined to leave a bad review than a good one. I would not overlook this site if the price is right.

UPDATE: The 7th item has been a hassle. It took 3 chat sessions and two phone calls to sort it out. The item finally shipped on 6/13/12 and delivered on 6/18/12. I would have given them 5 stars but I took a star off since this issue should have been handled with an updated tracking number the first time. 1StopLighting blamed the vendor. A 1Stop agent (Ryan) did call me on my mobile number to give me an update the day after the last inquiry and with tracking info once it was obtained from the vendor. That was a nice touch.

Subjective: This company is a total SCAM. Do not, under any circumstances, place an order from these criminals!

Objective: Order was placed January 13, 2008. My credit card was charge the same day. One month later and 3 unanswered emails: nothing. I finally disputed the charge with AMEX and sent Nextfan.com a 4th email and told them I was disputing the charge. I then received the following email:

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am so sorry about this horrible delay. I've had some urgent emergencies but I'll look into this matter and get back to you ASAP. All the pending orders were either shipped out or will be shipped out throughout this week. Once again, my apologies for this stupid, unacceptable mistake. I'll correct this problem for you ASAP. Thank you so much for your patience with us.

It is now 2 weeks after that email and I still have received no merchandise. This makes SIX WEEKS and 4 EMAILS later and nothing except empty promises, lame excuses and a charged credit card!

STAY AWAY FROM THIS SITE IF YOU WANT DELIVERY SOON!

I am an avid bargain shopper. When a speaker was selling for about 20% less on this site, I decided to order it despite knowing how poorly this company was rated. I thought, "how bad could they be?" Other sites like Buy.com have a relatively bad rating on this site and I have never had any problem with Buy.com. Well, live and learn. I placed an order on 5/10/07 for an "in stock" item that was listed as "Usually ships in 2-3 days." My credit card was charged the full amount the same day. It is my understanding that it is illegal to charge a credit card for an item and not ship it.

I called the one generic 800 number on the site and I was told that I would get an email with an update in 12 hours. No one emailed. In fact, there is no way to email anyone at this company.

I am pretty sure that HPAVDirect.com owns nothing, has no warehouse or storefront. They are likely a broker that works with distributors.

It took 4 weeks to get UPS tracking number. I expect delivery in about 1 week. Therefore, if you can wait 5 weeks for your item (or longer) and price is the main priority, this may be an option.

People seem very down on Buy.com on this forum. I have purchased >10 products from Buy.com. The latest being a newly released JVC RX-D401S 7Ch AV Receiver with HDMI Switching and USB Input. All items have arrived without incident and in perfect working order. I will admit that the free shipping option often adds several days to the delivery time. However, I cannot argue with extended shipping when it is free.

Trying to contact a human at Buy.com is not easy as their 800 number is not readily available. When you call, the service is not wonderful either. If you like personal service, stay away from this retailer. However, if you know what you want and you want it at a competitive price, Buy.com will get you your merchandise.

Another problem I have with Buy.com is that they are not very loyal to their existing customers. They often publish 10% coupons for "NEW CUSTOMERS ONLY." While you can set up multiple accounts with multiple email addresses and CC#'s to bypass this, I think this is a misguided policy.
