I checked the ratings available for this store and thought that most seemed to revolve around dissatisfaction on a mystery box sale so I didn't put too much stock in those reviews. (both SD & FW)
I placed an order for $76.26 with the free shipping coupon they emailed - 12/5 was the date of the order.
I received a notice a couple days later that my order had shipped. I then had to email them on 12/28 asking where my order was. Turns out that they decided they didn't want to honor the free shipping and wanted me to pay for shipping.
I emailed again and told them I used their free shipping coupon and should not have to pay shipping. 5 emails later - then wouldn't honor their coupon.
They canceled my order on 12/29 for not communicating with them - I guess they don't count the 5 emails back and forth as communication.
Anyway - I was OK with their canceling the order since I found their customer service to be seriously lacking and rude anyway and there are plenty of reputable stores I can order from. Their prices aren't that great but the free shipping coupon made it seem worthwhile to give them a try.
Fast forward to January 2008 and the receipt of my credit card statement - sure enough they charged my card the $76.26 back 12/07 - BEFORE it was even supposedly shipped!
Their response...
"There was no way for us to know that it was charged and never shipped unless it was brought up by the customer."
What the heck is that? So they can charge you, not ship the item and unless YOU contact them you won't get your money back? Makes me not have very much faith in their ordering system at all.
This is just my experience and I know I won't be ordering from them again.
Of course you should judge for yourself but be sure to keep an eye on your cc statements if you do order from them.

I only made the one order with Brookstone for an item that was to be a gift. Just received a mailed letter that the order had been canceled, the item no longer available.

Well, sorry Brookstone but how can you expect customers to trust you with their information when you cannot even maintain your own product database?
In this day and age, a company that cannot even maintain its own inventory records is certainly NOT secure enough to maintain customer information.

I've asked them to be removed from their mailing and any database lists. I hope they do, I just hate getting spammed from places I'll never order from.

Outstanding. Ordered 11/22/06 with free shipping option and a coupon. Order arrived on 12/01/06 and was complete with all appropriate charges.
Shipping notification was received 11/30 and order was trackable immediately.

Amazon really has got brass ones folks.
Ordered 5 items on a single order and received 3. When I checked the website for the status of the other 2 items I found that Amazon had deleted them from my order without notifying me that they were doing so. Now the mad scramble begins to replace the 2 items that were meant as part of a gift for my son and nephew.

Delete items without notifying the customer? SHAME ON YOU Amazon! But not shame on me. Once the last of my 2-day shipping items (already 2 WEEKS late) arrive and I get the credit back on those crappy flannel sheet sets I am having my account deleted from their server.
More and more stores are now offering free shipping and discount codes so you are not the only game in town.

Excellent product, delivery and communication.
I had a question about the look of a certain rug I was ordering and they got back to me within 1 business day (on a weekend at that!).
The rugs arrived in less than a week and the quality is outstanding.
I am very happy with my purchase and have just ordered 2 more rugs today.
