I was looking for a Seagate ATA V (Mfr. Part# ST3120023A) specifically because it is rated the quietest HD available. Found it at TigerDirect and verified that the product info page explicitly mentioned this part number before placed my order. However, when I received the shipment, it was the same brand and capacity but different model (Mfr. Part# ST3120022A).
I called the RMA department. The person answered the phone was very polite (Gerdy Carballos). He checked the web site and verified that the part # listed on the web is not the one I received. He said they have the model I need and issued an RMA and an exchange request without any problem.
The exchange arrived in 2 days and again, it was the wrong part #. I called the RMA again. This time, the part # on the web site has already been changed so I had a little hard time to explain it. Since the CSR thinks TigerDirect does not have the model I need, he did a return RMA.
Both time I was promised that the RMA shippings will be refunded in 2-3 days after I fax the receipt. I also verified that they will refund the initial shipping cost I paid since I am not on fault.
Here is where the problem started. They credit back the cost for the hard drive but not the shipping cost. I faxed the receipt to the correct fax number and waited a week but didn't see any refund, nor the initial shipping cost they promised. I called in and discovered that 1. they did not sent the request to the accounting to refund my initial shipping cost; 2. the fax got lost and was never recorded in their system.
I faxed the receipt again today. I has been more than a month since I placed the initial order. I am somehow frustrated although I do believe TigerDirect is trying to do a good job. I'll see how long it takes for them to refund all of my shipping costs.
UPDATE:
Just been contacted by Humberto from the TigerDirect. Wow, that was a very quick response. He politely apologized for the inconvenience and did the refund over the phone immediately! I am very impressed with the fact that they show great care on their customers and the most importantly, TOOK THE ACTION!
I know we all make mistakes. What matters the most to me is that TigerDirect worked with me and try their best to resolve any issues. Given this, I've changed my rating to very satisfied and I'll say I am very likely to order from them again in the future!
