“UPDATE. I just got a call and spent 10 minutes talking to Derek's boss over at Xotic. After going back and forth about the PM policy, he conceded that maybe they should in fact look into having a little more concise policy on this issue. (not going to change it...just present it in a less misleading way) The conversation was civil and ended on a positive note. Because of this personal level of customer service...I will go back on my prior comment ( no longer considering Xotic a worthwhile retailer to patronize ) and will actually consider them for future purchases. I feel much better now.

Back in Feb 2010, I got my son a new ASUS Laptop. That transaction went quite well. This review is mainly about my recent interest in purchasing two laptops, 1 for a friend, the other for a customer.( I have a small computer shop) On Xotic's website, they have a pricematch option. It doesn't have any specifics on what can be matched, but I just assumed the same as most any PM deal. Must be same model...same config...and in stock ready to ship. Well, I came across this site. http://www.adorama.com/ASK55ADB51.html Everything seemed to indicate they had the same thing...but at a decent savings. I used Xotic's form and submitted my pricematch for them. A day later..I got an email stating they would not match their price and asked if I would be interested in upgrading the same laptop and buyin it from THEM. REALLY? Upgrade? Heck..you not even gonna match the basic config price and you want me to UPGRADE and STILL buy from you? Kidding right?
Well, to make a long story a bit shorter...I called them and talked to Derek. (sales assoc) I wanted to know a specific reason why they were not honoring their claim to beat or match the price. His answer...1. That site is NOT an authorized ASUS Service Dealer. Ah...ok. 2. That site falls under the Big Box Store category. Hmm..anyone else ever hear of Adorama? I'm not a camera guy so I haven't. 3. Adorama has very little overhead with no service department, so therefore they can offer this laptop at a much lower price. ??????? This E-Tailer/Retailer is primarily a Photography Store with both an online store and a brick and mortar store. I would really like to know how Derek came about his conclusions about their financial situation and such. In fact..I asked him that and he just ignored the question. He just kept giving me the same song and dance about how that price is too low and they can't match it. The longer we spoke..the more reasons for NOT matching it. I asked him what stores/websites/etailers' prices they WOULD match and he said they go on a case by case request. In other words..they DON'T price match at all. I also questioned where I could read their PriceMatch Option Rules or "fine print". Turns out..they DON'T have any. They just make it up as they go. Before these conversations with Derek, while waiting on the initial request reply, I had my friend call to talk to them and order one...he also talked to Derek (which Derek admitted remembering the conversation with him earlier) and got the same answer. Sorry..can't match that price..too low. LOL. I told him I have lots of people..friends, family, customers asking where to go for a new laptop or for me to buy them one...and today..he lost TWO guaranteed sales and I'm sure more in the future. Sad...

Well, just wanted to get that off my chest. I can almost say for certain...I will never again deal with XoticPC.com. I think they should at minimum either offer a written policy for their pricematch option..or take it down as in my eyes..it is false advertising. From speaking with them...they will always be able to come up with an off the cuff reason for NOT honoring a lower price. That's fine for them, but by having the PM option posted..they are making potential customers waste time researching and comparing prices just to be told 'nope...that price is too low for XXXXX reason." Just not a very good business practice in my book. Got the two laptops @ Adorama.”
