3/5

I’ve been satisfied with eWiz in the past and considered them to be a top-notch online merchant. However, my most recent two orders with them has changed that opinion.
On a brief aside, this company seems to be going through some sort of identity crisis. I placed my orders from the eWiz Web site, but some correspondence comes from a company called SuperBiiz, and now the eWiz branding seems to have largely disappeared from eWiz.com with SuperBiiz replacing it. It’s not clear to me what the relationship is between eWiz and SuperBiiz. I’m not even sure how to pronounce “SuperBiiz.” It is confusing whether or not I’m dealing with the same eWiz I used to like so much.
The first of my two recent orders, which was for a hard drive, shipped the day I ordered it but still took a full week to arrive, which is relatively slow compared to other merchants in my experience when using their least expensive shipping option. The slow shipping wasn’t a huge deal, but the packaging also left some to be desired, considering it was a hard drive. The drive was packaged in a box slightly bigger than the drive itself between two approximately 3/8” thick pieces of foam. The packaging and drive did not fill the full height of the box, leaving the drive free to slide around between the foam layers. While this is not absolutely horrible packaging and not as bad as the hard drive packaging others have complained about recently with eWiz, it doesn’t seem totally adequate for a hard drive. Nevertheless, my drive did arrive in working condition.
My last order is where things really went downhill. A few hours after I placed the order and received an order confirmation, I received an email indicating there was a problem with my order because of a coupon code I had used. In the email, SuperBiiz went on to threaten to cancel my order after 48 hours unless I responded and agreed make up the difference for the coupon.
Needless to say, I replied to tell them to go ahead and cancel the order. A few hours later I logged into account with them and saw my order was still “processing.” I then cancelled the order myself.
The coupon was supposed to save me only $4.50. I’m surprised eWiz or SuperBiiz (or whoever they are now) would risk alienating a longtime customer over $4.50. They really don’t seem to value my business.
I wouldn’t say eWiz is completely awful; I just don’t think they are up to par with the best online merchants. I might place future orders with eWiz, but only if their price is the best I can find and significantly lower than the next lowest price. Otherwise, I’d rather deal with a top-notch vendor.
