They are absorbent and do take up any of the grit and grot left by the outside doormat. I haven\u0027t washed mine yet but I understand that they become even more effective once washed. If I had any criticism it would be that the colours could be a little more muted. My coffee coloured one wasn\u0027t the colour I expected and I would have preferred a black one at the backdoor but chose grey that is quite nice.<br>This small criticism apart, I would definitely recommend these mats - sometimes I think we can be fussy over asthetics - they are just doormats after all!
