AllStar Microel
Rating 10/10 5/5
modified review posted Jan-18-2003

I have ordered several video cards from Allstar, with each arriving in great condition. Shipping times can sometimes be a little longer than some other resellers, but nothing to merit a reduction in rating. In conclusion, I would not hesitate ordering from Allstar again.

Newegg.com (USA

As usual, Newegg got my items to me in a very timely manner, with good packaging. Although their packaging can vary from time to time, and products can sometimes be found slightly cheaper at less reputable resellers, I still think they are the best online reseller for computer components at this time. Unlike some of these other resellers, with Newegg you know that you will actually receive your order, and if you happen to get an item which is DOA, their RMA process is painless. Once again, I salute you Newegg. 10/10.

I typically order something from Amazon on a monthly basis, ranging from books and movies to electronics or home products. Their prices are usually decent, although many items can be found cheaper with smaller resellers for a small price difference. In my opinion, their faults are outweighed by their massive selection, and their typically accurate shipping times. They are usually decent with customer service issues, and they typically pack items well. Overall, I think Amazon.com is one of the supercenters of online resellers with their massive selection.

CableClub

I ordered 7 cables after finding this reseller via pricewatch, with the cables being a mixture of rounded ide and floppy cables. Everything seemed fine until I arrived at the totals. For $47.50 worth of cables, they wanted $38.00 of shipping. These cables plus the box could not have weighed more than 5-7 pounds. Needless to say, my business was taken elsewhere. In conclusion, decent prices are negated by the extreme shipping costs, which defeats the purpose of trying to use this reseller. Take your business elsewhere, where your shipping totals more accuratly indicate what it costs the reseller to ship the products.

Also, as another poster mentioned, their "Order Status" page is bogus. All order numbers bring up the same generic message about your order being processed.

Neutron Inc.

I ordered two hard-drives from Neutron and both were listed as in stock. I was immediately charged for the complete order. Four days later I received a message on my answering machine informing me that one of the drives was not carried anymore and that they called see if I wanted to upgrade. Sensing an oncoming bait and switch, I returned the call and told the rep that I wanted to cancel my order and wanted a refund. Two days later, my order was still not listed as canceled, so I sent an email asking as to the status of my order. I was informed that they were still processing my credit card. I replied that I wanted to cancel my order, as I had told the rep two days ago. He said he would cancel it and issue the refund. Fast-forward two weeks. Refund has not been issued, and I had still heard nothing. Called again, was told that my refund was being processed. Fast-forward two more weeks, email this time as to why my refund has still not been issued, received a reply saying that I needed to contact the credit department and was given a phone number and an extension. I spoke to someone and they said they would issue the refund. A few days later the refund was finally given. Obviously the customer has to call around the office for the reps, as they have better things to do than work on customer satisfaction. Bait and switch plus questionable billing practices equals me not ordering from Neutron or any of it’s other companies again. I would recommend the same to others, as this was not an enjoyable experience.

Edge Micro

According to the message posted on their website, it would appear that edgemicro’s bad reputation has finally caught up with them. They have ceased all business. All I can say is good riddance, and good work to all the reviewers who took time out of their day to come warn the other potential customers. Hopefully, some of the other corrupt resellers will take note and either join the long list of reputable resellers, or go the way of edgemicro.com and save us the hassle.

Ordered 512 PC2700 DDR ram. Memory was nicely packaged, and has worked great so far. Ordered on a Friday, arrived on a Tuesday. Would reccomend them for your memory purchases.

Same story as the others listed here, just a different day. I placed an order with this company before checking resellerratings.com for comments on the establishment's history. As you can imagine, buying from this company has been a most disagreeable experience. My order consisted of a computer case, a hard drive, and 2 Samsung PC2700 512MB 333Mhz DDR ram chips. When I received my order, the first thing I noticed is that they had placed the hard drive and ram inside of the computer case with no packaging around either, and both were banging around inside the case. Surprisingly the hard-drive and memory both appeared undamaged. Upon inspecting the memory, I noticed they had placed a heat sink on the memory without me ordering it. I decided to remove the heat sink to inspect the memory’s quality. As I am sure you have deduced from the other comments, the memory was not what I had ordered. Although there was a sticker on the outside heat sink labeling it as "PC2700 DDR333", there was a sticker on the chips underneath the heat sink that labeled it as "PC2100 DDR266". It seems that even though they are determined to defraud people by sending them an inferior item instead of what they ordered, they do not even take them time to peel the sticker off the product labeling it as the true item it is. I suspect they are hoping people do not take the time to get the heat sinks off.

After several emails, several different RMA forms, and many attempted phone calls with no response what so ever, I finally wrote an email informing BuyAIB that I was going to dispute the charges with my credit card company. They almost immediately replied to my email with instructions for returning the memory. I shipped the memory back to them along with a letter stating that I was requesting a full refund for the incorrect items sent. After receiving the delivery confirmation from the US postal service for returning my order, I began waiting for information in regards to my refund. One week passed, and I began the process over again. I started emailing, and calling to no avail. After a period that was much longer than required, they finally credited my card for the amount of the ram, and never responded to my many emails asking for information in regards to my refund.

This was, without a doubt, the worst experience I have ever had in my many years of shopping through online resellers. Please save yourself the anger and headaches of having to deal with this company. This company gives other honest reseller's a bad name. I have filed complaints with the appropriate federal organizations in regards to this companies unacceptable business practices. On a final note, I would like to say that I am surprised that Yahoo allows a company of this nature conduct this type of underhanded business practice under their name. Hopefully the amount of complaints against these felons will be enough to halt their dishonest activities.
