Canon eStore!
Rating 10/10 5/5
modified review posted Jul-23-2007

After searching the web, I found that the Canon eStore! offered a very competitive total cost (item cost + S&H) on a Canon PIXIMA IP4300 Photo Printer. I ordered the printer on Friday, June 29, 2007 at 11:56 PM. On Monday, July 02, 2007 at 2:48 PM I received a shipping notification along with a FedEx Ground Home Delivery tracking number. I received the package on Jul 5, 2007 at 3:02 PM.

The printer arrived in perfect condition and has performed flawlessly ever since I installed it. I am completely satisfied with both the printer itself and the excellent service that I received from the Canon eStore!. I would definitely recommend the Canon eStore! to anyone who is looking to purchase a Canon printer.

On 2/24/06 I ordered through etronics.com's web site a Uniden TCX440 cordless telephone expansion handset. At the time of order, the etronics.com web site indicated that the item was in stock. On 3/2/06 I received an email from etronics stating that "Your order has been shipped directly from our vendor in order to expedite the processing of your order". Simply translated, this means that etronics did not have the item in stock when my order was placed.

I received my order on 3/3/06. The package was shipped via UPS from Austin, Texas. A UPS "Express Pad Pak" was used as a shipping container. Despite a warning on the Express Pad Pak that "Contents should be packed to ensure safe transportation.", the shipper simply put the box containing the telephone into the Express Pad Pak (which is just a bubble wrap lined shipping envelope) without using an outer carton. When I received my order, the telephone's box was crushed at the corners. To make matters worse, the battery pack was missing from the telephone's box. A replacement battery pack from Uniden has a list price of $16.70, so the missing battery pack was a significant part of the telephone's cost.

After two calls to Uniden, one to customer service and the other to the parts department, I was able to obtain a free replacement for the missing battery pack. After the replacement battery pack was installed and charged, the new telephone handset worked fine.

Based upon my experience with etronics.com, I have come to the following conclusions:
1) Inventory information on etronics web site is unreliable.
2) Etronics does make a good faith effort to ship out of stock merchandise as soon as possible.
3) One of etronic's suppliers could use some lessons in packing delicate merchandise for shipment.
4) etronic's prices are highly competitive with those of other web merchants.

I can't really fault either etronics or its supplier for the missing battery pack since I have no way of knowing whether the battery pack was removed by etronics' supplier or was simply left out of the box by the manufacturer. In either case, the missing battery pack was a real nuisance that caused me lost time and aggravation.

I ordered two 92mm Panaflo high-volume fans and two 3-wire tails with plugs from the HeatsinkFactory on the evening of July 13, 2004. The order was shipped the next day.

The order arrived via Fedex Ground in perfect condition. The folks at the HeatsinkFactory actually went to the trouble of removing the plain 3-wire tails from the fans and installing the 3-wire tails with plugs for me. This was a nice bit of extra service on their part since I was only charged for parts and not for their installation.

The HeatsinkFactory has a great selection of fans at fair prices. Their service is top-notch.

One suggestion I have for the HeatsinkFactory is to offer USPS Priority Mail as a shipping option. For small packages Priority Mail is actually faster than FedEx Ground shipping.

CaseCooler promptly shipped exactly what was ordered. They stock a large variety of cooling hardware including a difficult to find 40 mm fan that I needed to replace a failed one on the chipset cooler for my Gigabyte GA-8KNXP motherboard. I ordered two of the 40 mm fans last Friday and received both on the following Thursday. Considering that I placed my order late on a Friday evening and the following Monday was a holiday (Columbus Day), their shipping speed was excellent. Also, their shipping charges were quite close to the actual postage on the Priority Mail shipping container. They definitely didn't gouge on shipping charges.

Based upon NewEgg.com's excellent ratings, I ordered from them all components for a new PC that I planned to build by myself. Everything was accurately described and competitively priced. All components were brand new and arrived in excellent condition. Delivery was on-time and all merchandise was well-packed with styrofoam peanuts.

On the negative side, I have Just a couple of small quibbles:
1) The on-line shopping cart adds items in seemingly random locations, making the ordering process unnecessarily tedious. YOu can't easily see the most recent item that you added to the cart.
2) The shippers don't understand that the styrofoam peanuts serve two distinct purposes:
a) to cushion merchandise against outside blows
b) to stop the contents of the master carton from shifting around.
Like most shippers, the one's at newegg put the component boxes into a master carton and then pour styrofoam peanuts over them. This procedure keeps the inside boxes from shifting within the master carton, but it leaves unprotected against external blows the boxes that are in direct contact with the master shipping carton. Fortunately, all of the inside boxes had sufficient packing of their own to prevent damage.
