"Keep away, keep away!!!! Wow, what a bad joke. Ordered a video camera from BroadwayPhoto first, they just sent me an out of stock email, so I then stupidly went to TechonDigital (aka TheDigitalNerds). Received an email for my order, called to "confirm" my order, they proceeded to upsell me batteries saying that the one that came with the camera only lasted 20 minutes. Hah! I just declined.
Five days later, no charge had been put on my Credit Card and no emails or phone calls regarding shipping. Called them to ask about my order, first call they hung up on me, second call they transferred me to an answering machine, third call I spoke to someone and they told me that my order would be shipped in four weeks. Actually I'll quote what he said to me twice, "Four weeks, you'll love it!". Astonished at the amount of time it would take, I told him to cancel the order. He said "Ok your order is cancelled, have a great day". Didn't think it was going to be that easy but I received a cancellation email with a cancellation code, so hopefully that's the last time I'll have to deal with these scammers. I'm going to cancel my credit card today too.
"very unprofessional. Nikon s600 - after on-line purchase got call from sales and tried to sell me battery and accessories. I turned them down. a week later got email saying it was "out of inventory". obviously a scam.
"I purchased a GPS online from this company and was told I had to call and confirm. When I called to confirm, they tried to sell me accessories (for outrageously high prices). When I declined, they said the order was confirmed. two calls later when I still didn't see it on my credit card statement, they said it was backordered and asked if I'd like to cancel the order. (their website said it was currently available) Obviously, scammers. "
"Same problem as the rest of you had. It's a bait and switch scam. Stay away from 86th Street, too. Same company, using different name and website. Same jerk with a Jersey accent working both customer service lines."
"I thought I was going to save $110 on a $500 Sony camcorder, by ordering from techondigital.com. I noticed their prices were very low on their cameras & camcorders, but very high on the accessories (like tripods, batteries, cases).
Afte placing the order, an email said to call customer service, I assumed just to verify credit card. No, they wanted to sell me a battery (the one that comes with the camera is only good for 15 min.), an extended warranty (a lot of returns on these camcorders), a tripod, and an SD card. When I said no, they were friendly no longer - "I hope you enjoy your camcorder", and hung up. A day later, I get an email "item not in stock, won't be for 6-8 weeks". I checked some review sites, and this place has horrible reviews. I've checked my credit card for fraud, but they don't seem to be involved in credit card fraud, just "bait and switch". Of course, their webiste shows this same camcorder as "Available" (as it has every day).
There are reputable companies that offer low prices, but this place ain't one of them.
"I believe this is a sister, or alias, company to TechonDIGITAL. Same Modus Operendi. (NO posts are being taken at that named site) On the evening of Mar 19, 2008, I ordered a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ3 online and printed the order summary including the request to call and confirm the order before it would be shipped. I called the next morning. Guy finally answers, asks for order number. He states camera battery only lasts 20 minutes. I need to purchase a battery. I say not yet, I just want the camera. He says camera will only take about two pictures, I need an SD Card. I say I have a stack of them and only want the camera. He says it's a nice camera and hangs up. Today I receive this e-mail (and I copy verbatim): -We thank you for your order and appreciate you shopping with us . Due to the product you ordered being out of stock for 6-8 weeks from today's date. We regret to inform you that the order is canceled due to the product being on backorder. when or if we get the product again in stock soon will send you an email to place an order please do not resubmit your order again . sorry again and thanks for your understanding .- I checked their website before this post and the camera is listed as available, but now at $175.00. The 1GB SD Card is $59.99 and the battery is $69.99! I do believe this is a dishonest way to do business. I feel almost lucky to have had the order cancelled with no fee charged (yet). I will definitely be monitoring my credit card number. Caveat Emptor! "
"Hideous, hideous company run by rude, stupid people. Same experience as everyone else - tried to order a Garmin 200, got the confirmation email, called and was expected to pay 50 bucks for a 1 gig memory card, or else I would have to ship the unit to some godforsaken place to get map updates... with their extra special super-keen memory card, however, I could download updates right from home! Well, gee, I said, I think I want to take ten minutes to research this and call you back. At that point, "JJ" (the owner, apparently)had his latest Prozac dosage run out, and he suddenly flipped out. He called me stupid, said he was doing me a favor, etc. and then said he'd cancel the order and hung up on me. Truly the oddest sales tactic I had ever seen. So, then I became nervous that this was a phishing scam, so I called back and told the peon who answered the phone that, if any charge appeared on my card, I would make it my personal lifelong mission to totally destroy him. I then received a very polite email from them, stating they had totally deleted all my information from their systems.
I'd have to say this was a fairly negative experience, but the threat bit at the end was kind of cathartic."
"Buyer BEWARE! Techondigital. The web price seemed too good to be true. After placing an online order, I was instructed to call w/in 24 hours to confirm order. I was then pressured to buy the "better battery" at up to $200 since the standard only lasted "20 minutes". When I asked about the included AC cord, I was told that would burn up the camera if I used it. After still declining, I was offered the extended warranty at up to $200. (I was amazed how quickly the prices on these extras dropped) After still refusing, I was then told that my camcorder was "gray market" and came with no warranty. I questioned this and why nothing like this was stated on their website. They then suggested that I could cancel the order if I was not happy, which I did. This was NOT a pleasant experience! Be warned, DO NOT attempt to make a purchase from Techondigital UNLESS you are prepared to spend literally hundreds of dollars on extras of unnecessary items and warranties!"
"Needless to say, it is always the same scam. Ordered a Sony DSC-T70. Called to confirm and knew the scam right away. I did not buy the upgrades. I got off the phone and told my wife we will never see that camera. Sure enough, order cancelled the next day. This fake company was TECHONdigital.com, but there are many others."
"I had exactly the same experience already described here in RR: I found their very low price on EveryPrice., read their great reviews, ordered the camera (Panasonic TZ3). First got an acknowledgement email. 2 days later got an email, "Please call james from our order confirmation department at ext: 201 to confirm your order at 800-958-0054". James tried to sell me a way over priced SD card I said no thanks camera only. Then I got the cancellation email: "Due to the product you ordered being out of stock for 6-8 weeks from today's date. We regret to inform you that the order is canceled due to the product being on backorder. when or if we get the product again in stock soon will send you an email to place an order please do not resubmit your order again . sorry again and thanks for your understanding." I immediately checked their site. The camera was still listed as available. "
"Like everyone else, I too experienced this company's bait and switch-type tactics. I ordered a Canon G9, as have others, had the phone call trying to sell me an SD card and spare battery. When I told them I already had both, they said okay, the order is confirmed. Then I too received the cancellation email. I emailed back telling them that this reeked of bait and switch. I checked today and the G9 is still listed as available. I think I'll call them back and ream them out via phone."

"Placed an online order for a Canon G9 from TECHON Digital,TECHONdigital.com. Received a confirmation email and then got a call from 'sales' to 'confirm' my order. The sales person tried to sell me additional items. He did not want to answer any questions about the add-ons (seemed very overpriced). When I said I just wanted the G9 as advertised and nothing else, he said 'OK, if you don't want anything I'll just cancel your order' and then hung up! My credit card was not billed and I received a 'cancellation' notice via email.
This outfit does not honor its advertised price and I felt scammed. I will NEVER buy anything from TECHONDigital and recommend you run from them and their site! "
"I purchased a camera for an online price of $209 on Saturday evening. The confirmation email requested I confirm the order which I was unable to do until the Sunday as they were closed Saturday. I thought it a bit odd but went along with the idea that they were just being certain that the order was genuine. To my surprise they called me and pushed a really hard sales for accessories which I had no intention of buying having seen the prices they wanted on the web site. The bombshell was dropped when they offered a warranty since the online offer was a 'grey model' There was no mention of this on the website. I was almost speechless and should have told them to cancel the order but since I had just recovered from having my last c.c. compromised and all that entailed I felt extremely vulnerable and agreed to pay more ($84) for the USA version, which was $40 more than Amazon.com. The camera did arrive with all the extras but it was a very unpleasant and nerve racking experience. I have been trading online for years and for some stupid reason did not do a Reseller check on this bunch of cowboys. WILL NEVER ORDER from these people again and will stick with Amazon.com whom have always been wonderful. ALWAYS CHECK > www.resellerratings.com before you purchse online. Very scary transaction "
www.TechonDigital.com and www.TheDigitalNerds.com are FRAUD!
DON"T BUY FROM TECHONDigital.com or TheDigitalNerds.com FRAUD!
I just filed a serious complaint with the BBB about TECHON Digital ( www.TECHONDigital.com ), and The Digital Nerds ( www.TheDigitalNerds.com) about their unethical and illegal tactics of offering low priced items without fulfilling orders unless they throw in extremely high priced accessories (Their high pressure telemarketers will call you and try to sell you accessories before they even think of mailing it to you.... They'll find some reason not to send it to you if you don't by any accessories.)
On Jan. 02, 2008 I ordered a (JVC Everio GZ-MG555 5MP 30GB Hard Disk Drive Camcorder) from www.TECHONDigital.com . $389 for the camcorder and $14.90 shipping. Full price:$403.90 Order ID: 910***. The site said it would be shipped out in three days. Today, Jan. 3, 2008, I received a phone call from TECHON Digital trying to sell me many accessories. During our conversation the sales associate offered me a "US version of the camcorder I ordered." I was confused. The English only site and description page doesn't say anything about the camcorder not being English: http://www.techondigital.com/product.asp?productid=GZMG555 The associate (James: 800-958-0054 ext 201) told me that the camcorder I ordered and they were sending me is a "grey market" item. I told James that it doesn't or never stated grey market, which I never heard before, anywhere in the item description, on the website, or during the transactions, emails, or receipt. James told me the camcorder and instructions I ordered would be in Japanese. I was confused. There entire website is in English. James told me that the "hidden" policy is on their policy page. I looked over the entire website, all my transactions, all emails and couldn't find anything that stated my ordered camcorder would not be in English or the words grey market. After searching awhile, I found the words grey market hidden in their "Return Policy", not their Store Policy. James became very rude and hung up and canceled my order. What kind of scam are they running. I have copies of my order and their policy page with the words grey market only hidden in their return policy online. I even talked with management and another associate. All were rude. It was like they had this grey market conversation rehearsed.
They are using an unethical, misleading, and hidden policy to reach customers they wouldn't normally reach by listing grey market prices under all their items. TECHON Digital's management even told me they weren't an English company to attempt to avoid my reasonable arguments. I found them, via you, to be a New Jersey based company. Although my order is canceled without my permission, I still want to pay for what I ordered: http://www.techondigital.com/product.asp?productid=GZMG555. I am extremely angry with this company and its illegal and misleading way of selling merchandise. I gave them my personal contact and financial information to receive an English item as described. If anyone buys the same camcorder I did, they'll be just as angry. Please tell me what I can do. "
